Title: Roseanne whacked, Kimmel still on
Post by: Kaos on May 29, 2018, 02:19:11 PM
Roseanne show cancelled for making a dumb joke.

But Kimmel is still on.

Double standard?

Did she say something racist?

I must have missed that too.  She made a joke about someone's appearance.

What Kimmel, Colbert, Noah, SNL and all the rest do on a regular basis is far worse to me.

I get the bias throughout the media.  However, as soon as I heard Rosanne go Planet of the Apes, I thought this will have to be the shortest comedy mini-series in history.  She gone!

It was borderline.

But how is it any worse than the nightly parade of vulgar offenses leveled by people like Seth Meyers?

See, here's the problem.  Before this came out, USAToday had a big article from a "racism expert" (how is that even a thing?) talking about what's wrong with all us white people.

This is part of the commentary:

"While everyone has racial bias, I reserve the word 'racist' to describe the bias that white people have — our collective bias is backed by institutional power."

In other words ONLY WHITE PEOPLE CAN BE RACIST.

That's wrong.  So is completely losing any sense of humor about anything.  I wish you people (not you people, but you people) would watch one single episode of Match Game 77.  It's on GSN.  In any random episode you'll find something that would cost people jobs, get them arrested or require profuse apologies.  People used to have the ability to laugh at themselves.

So you find calling someone a offspring of the Muslim Brotherhood and Planet of the Apes funny?

People used to be respectful to others.

I too don't recall seeing Seth Meyers or Jimmy Kimmel calling someone a Ape due to their skin color.

YOU determined it was about skin color.  She wasn't calling the woman an ape, just commenting on her looks.
ZERO difference between that and you or anybody else calling Trump a Cheeto.  Just a comment on her appearance.

You lecturing anyone about being 'respectful' is absurd given the things you've said about our president and those who support the man or the office.

Seriously, have you seen this lady? She’s actually white. No kidding. I’ve seen white people that look more black.
So, I’m not going to argue that the tweet isn’t racist or that it wasn’t dumb. But to say she called her an ape because of her skin color? That’s just goofy.

Step back and look at your post. You're defending someone that said the black woman or mixed race (whatever you want to call it, Father is African-American and the mother I think is Iranian) looked like the offspring of the Muslim Brotherhood and Planet of the Apes. She stated that she looked like an Ape. But, you're going to defend that and think nothing wrong with it. What if she made that statement about one of Trump's advisors? You would be crying and moaning here like always.

Btw, we're still using the broad brush today ("they're sending rapists and drug dealers over the boarder"...also, ask the congregation here what they think of Muslims, $5 says that atleast one will use the broad brush).

It was a terribly stupid thing to say (in this climate).  But seriously...

I'm not going to do it, but compare pictures of Helena Bonham Carter in the Marky Mark version of POTA to those of the woman in question.

Maybe she was making a racial disparagement.  But it's entirely possible she wasn't.  I doubt she's the first person to look at them and.................well................

Old article from teh Rooters

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Donald Trump is withdrawing his lawsuit against television host and comedian Bill Maher seeking $5 million that Maher said he would give to charity, in a seemingly facetious offer, if Trump could prove he was not the son of an orangutan.

The lawsuit stems from comments Maher made during an appearance on NBC’s “The Tonight Show” in January in which he said an orangutan’s fur was the only thing in nature that matches the shade of Trump’s trademark hair.
Records in Los Angeles Superior Court show the real estate mogul requested the lawsuit be dismissed without prejudice on Friday, eight weeks after he filed it. His spokesman, Michael Cohen, said Trump plans to file an amended lawsuit sometime in the future.
Cohen declined to offer further details, including a reason for the withdrawal.

Maher offered a $5 million donation to the charity of Trump’s choice - “Hair Club for Men,” he suggested - if Trump produced a birth certificate that proved he was not half-ape. A Maher spokeswoman did not respond to a request for comment on Tuesday.
Last year, during the presidential campaign, Trump offered to give $5 million to charity if Democratic President Barack Obama would release his college records.

Trump, who briefly considered a White House run, had previously questioned Obama’s citizenship and boasted that his skepticism prompted the president to release his so-called “long-form” birth certificate.
In a letter to Maher before filing the lawsuit, Trump’s lawyer wrote, “Attached hereto is a copy of Mr. Trump’s birth certificate, demonstrating that he is the son of Fred Trump, not an orangutan.”
Legal experts said Trump was unlikely to succeed in his lawsuit because Maher’s offer was obviously a joke, and courts rarely enforce verbal contracts that are clearly satirical in nature.
In an appearance on Fox News after the lawsuit was filed, Trump said he was convinced that Maher was not joking.

“That was venom,” he said. “That wasn’t a joke.”

foxynews

A harsh new spotlight is falling on the vulgar social media history of ESPN star Keith Olbermann after the network’s parent, Disney, fired Roseanne Barr for a racist tweet.

On Tuesday, ABC pulled the plug (http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2018/05/29/abc-cancels-roseanne-after-barrs-racist-tweet.html) on the wildly popular reboot of "Roseanne" after its namesake posted a racist and offensive tweet about former President Obama’s aide and close friend Valerie Jarrett. Last week, ABC’s cable sister, ESPN, announced that anti-Trump pundit Olbermann would return to the network (http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2018/05/25/espn-slammed-for-bringing-back-conservative-bashing-keith-olbermann-amid-criticism-liberal-bias.html) despite a foul-mouthed Twitter account that includes countless offensive remarks directed at the president and his surrogates.
ESPN personality-turned-political commentator Britt McHenry told Fox News that “Olbermann has proven time and time again how irrationally angry, prejudiced, and outright bigoted he truly is,” but none of that apparently matters to Disney executives.

“The message is clear: If you’re a liberal, any free speech is allowed. Same rules don’t apply,” McHenry said.
This is Olbermann’s sixth stint at ESPN and the time in between has been largely spent as a far-left political pundit on MSNBC and an assortment of other networks. Most recently, he anchored an anti-Trump online program for GQ, “The Resistance,” and authored a book titled, “Trump is F*cking Crazy: (This is Not a Joke).”
While Olbermann is not racist, he can certainly be considered offensive and has used profanity when attacking the president, whom he has called a “Nazi” on a regular basis. In Aug. 2017, Olbermann tweeted at first daughter Ivanka Trump (https://twitter.com/KeithOlbermann/status/896726281852682241) and called her father a “neo-Nazi,” and “racist.” He has also written “f—k you” to Trump numerous times, but ESPN’s newest star doesn’t bother to use the sanitized version of the cuss word.

Conservative talk radio host Ben Ferguson said there was “clearly” a double standard at Disney during a Wednesday morning appearance on CNN, while former ESPN employee Curt Schilling tweeted (https://twitter.com/gehrig38/status/1001592465760112640), “The irony of Disney canning Roseanne while continuing to employ some of the industry’s biggest racist and race baiting frauds… is not lost on most.”
Jedediah Bila recently tweeted (https://twitter.com/JedediahBila/status/1001585052088721410) that Barr’s comment was “despicable,” and, much like the “Roseanne” namesake, “Olbermann has made awful comments that should make him unemployable by respectable outlets.”
In addition to repeated, over-the-top profanity directed at Trump, Olbermann also once claimed (http://nordic.businessinsider.com/keith-olbermann-trump-osama-bin-laden-isis-2017-11/) that Trump and his family have done more damage to the U.S. than Usama bin Laden. He was also widely criticized (https://www.dailywire.com/news/22891/keith-olbermann-sends-out-most-hypocritical-tweet-joseph-curl) when his anti-Trump book featured a cover image of himself draped in the American flag (http://www.theamericanmirror.com/unhinged-keith-olbermann-violates-u-s-flag-code-three-times-attack-trump/), which is visibly touching the ground – a violation of U.S. flag code (http://www.usflag.org/uscode36.html#176).
Media analyst Jeffrey McCall told Fox News that “nobody should feel sorry for Roseanne,” but “it does seem Disney needs to provide some clarity about what it expects from other employees regarding public civility.”
McCall pointed out that Olbermann has engaged in “name calling and harsh personal attacks and the corporation doesn't seem to mind,” and said he thinks the same rules should apply to “all of their polarizing personalities.”

There is zero logical connection between having a foul fucking mouth and being a shitbag racist.

That said, sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander and ABC would be within their rights to shut him down, too.  I'm sure public displays of vulgarity are wrapped up in their corporate code of conduct somewhere.

Agreed.  The reason for posting the piece was far more to point out the double standard in the entertainment industry. This quote says it all.
“The message is clear: If you’re a liberal, any free speech is allowed. Same rules don’t apply,”
I said from the start that Rosanne should have been canned.  And even though Olbermann's twats aren't racist, how do you spew that much vulgarity and venom at the POTUS and First Lady over and over, and ESPN says, "Yea Keith, you're the kind of go-getter we've been looking for."  Then look at why Schilling was shown the door.

Can't make the direct correlation between Roseanne and Olbermann.  There is a much more direct line between Schilling and Olbermann, though.

And don't forget Jabba Hill.  Same thing.

I'll be perfectly honest.  I am much more offended by Olbermann calling the president a Nazi and cursing him out than I am some random comedian making an ill-advised joke about somebody's appearance.  If Keith had said those same things about Obama or his wife?  He'd never work again.

Ambien...Olbermann was on that during every foul tweet he twittered.

Ok. You're redeeming yourself a bit here. Don't screw this up.

Normal Tuesday afternoon at prowlers. Just imagine if he drank a 6 pack.
