Title: Deadpool 2
Post by: Kaos on May 17, 2018, 02:14:29 PM
Sequels rarely live up to the original.  I think this may be that rare exception.

If the movie is half as good as the marketing efforts?  It will be amazing.

Even though I was a comic book geek growing up, I wasn't really familiar with the Deadpool character when I went to see the original at the theater.  I honestly thought it would be another Marvel action flick and a good way to kill a Saturday afternoon.  Took my son with me.  15 at the time.  Not as if he hadn't heard cussing before, but there were a few uncomfortable moments.  Having said that, it was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.  Also was blown away by the level of sarcastic smartassedness by Ryan Reynolds.  Perfect for the role.

I'm looking forward to this one.

Really?  That's kind of his entire brand.

If you haven't already seen it, check out Waiting.  You'll enjoy it twice as much if you've ever worked in a restaurant (thrice as much if you worked in an Applebee's or the like.)

Honestly, you should just leave the comic book and growing up parts off and change the was to am.
But from what I gathered at the few x gates I’ve been to, it’s the norm.
I was the only cool person there.

Not sure what you were looking for, then.  It is in the same basic mold of the first installment: potty-mouthed anti-hero battles mutant-y bad guys while juggling love interest.

The only reason the sequel isn't quite as great as the original is that you lose the "shock" factor of hearing a guy in a unitard dropping f-bombs.

I think it nearly lived up to the first one and I enjoyed it. It'll do well at the box office, maybe not as well as Black Panther did though.

I was looking for an escape and 15 mins in, this wasn't it and I knew it. Hearing Ryan Reynolds try to be funny and violent at the same time is not much of a draw either way for me.

So, you hated the first one, I presume.  Why waste money hoping they'd try to completely change up the formula?

No, once again, you are wrong. I thought the first one was fine. Up until the end of the month, I was a MoviePass subscriber. Having already used it a couple times this month, I've more than gotten value from it. So the ticket cost me nothing. As I wrote (and you plainly ignored), I was looking for an escape. This was not it. So, I left and went back to what I was avoiding.

Rather than wait the standard 20 years I decided to plunk down a Lincoln sandwiched between 2 Washingtons.

Six you're fucking retarded.  It was phenomenal.  I put it over the first one, slightly...perhaps because I saw this in the theater rather than the JumboBox like the first.

References, pop culture and all that jazz was fun...probably missed a lot too.  Soundtrack was solid too.

I'm not rating it at all. I never gave it a chance because I realized from the jump this movie wasn't for me. I didn't know my post about bailing on it would cause so much hand-wringing. I don't dig Ryan Reynolds and I didn't go for what this was. Which, from my 15 mins. with it, seemed to be a retreading of the first one. I was fine with that one but didn't have the religious experience others had with it.

RR has been in a ton of movies over the years, but I've only seen a handful of them.  In the ones I had seen prior to Deadpool, like RIPD, The Proposal, Green Lantern and a few others, I don't recall his characters taking sarcastic smartassedness to the level of Deadpool.  Wes said that was a big part of his schtick but I had a limited catalog to go by.  When I watched DP, I was blown away by how damn funny he was and how perfect he was for that character. So, if you guys say the second is even close to the original, I can't wait to see it.

BTW, I did see The Hitman's Bodyguard after DP.  Fairly entertaining flick, nothing great.  But worth seeing just to decide who the bigger smartass was between Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson.

Ed Zachary.  Like I said earlier, I took my underage son to it, thinking it would be a way to kill an afternoon with some Marvel entertainment.
That scene where RR's wife was putting it in his pooper....yeeeeah, that was a special bonding moment for me and the kiddo.

I am entertained.  Just got back from DPII.  Honestly, I was a little worried about being let down, despite the reviews.  The first one took me by complete surprise.  Laughed non-stop.  However, I've watched it twice since and it just didn't come close to that initial viewing.  You guys said...well, most of you, that it rivaled the original, so I was thinking it might have a whole lot of meh.  Rehashing of the same jokes.

Wrong!!!

Yeah, it was very similar to the first but the writers killed it.  Tough to cram that many one liners into a 2 hour follow up, but they damn sure did it.  Reynolds raised the bar.  The X'rs were spot on.

On a side note, are we officially at an hour's worth of previews yet?  I'm going to start showing up for a 6:00 movie at 6:45 so I can only be subjected to 5 more previews.

That might be worth it.  I usually don't pay attention to, or worry about plunking down a few $$$ to see a movie.  You know what you're getting into if you decide to go.  It's going to run you about what dinner for two at a half way decent restaurant is going to cost, sans too many cocktails.  But me and mini-tall got our tickets, one small popcorn (Drenched in liquid gold), two small cokes and he got a pack of M&M's.
$50.00

Now, if you leave the movie satisfied with the product, then it's worth it.  But $50 clams for two tix and a snack?
