Title: For Old Times... sake...
Post by: Kaos on February 09, 2018, 10:06:17 AM
It was on, I've never seen it so I started watching The Graduate.

Terrible movie, clunky dialogue, poor execution.

Interesting to see some of the people.  Like Buck Henry doing a brief shot as a hotel clerk. Gladys Kravitz and crazy Aunt Clara (from Bewitched).  Mr Roper.  That surgeon from St. Elsewhere.

Dustin Hoffman is awful, though.

I'm not going to finish it.  Don't care how many Oscar nominations it got.

Cool Hand Luke came out the same year as this.  Now THAT'S a good movie.  It sucks that Newman lost the Best Actor to Rod Steiger (due to white guilt beginning to take hold in Hollywood).

You know entirely too much about movies.

But just out of curiosity, have you ever seen one that you liked?

Cool Hand Luke

And pretty much any decent movie Steve McQueen was in, are the bench mark for machismo. Before the big emasculation process started.

He didn't have to say much. Maybe the biggest star of his era with the least dialogue.

There are a few.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Valley Girl
Goodfellas
Pulp Fiction
Kill Bill 1&2
Training Day
Tora! Tora! Tora!
Raising Arizona
Christmas Vacation
Cool Hand Luke

There might be others, but I don't remember them.

Valley Girl.  Nice.

Is this movie in 3D?

Patton -- Nope.  Too long.
The Sting -- Enjoyed it, but didn't fully understand what was going on
Wait Until Dark -- Never heard of it
MASH -- Nope. Didn't like it.
The Thomas Crown Affair -- Never heard of it
Papillon -- Negative. Tried several times but never made it through it
Bonnie and Clyde -- Doesn't hold up well in retrospect, but i did enjoy this one.

Some others I forgot.

Stripes (better than Caddyshack to me)
Ferris
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
The Outlaw Josey Wales (will watch it every time it's on)
To Kill a Mockingbird
The Omen
The Exorcist
Rocky I and IV (also 3)
Halloween (78)
Friday the 13th
Nice Dreams
Jungle Book (animated)
Lion King (animated)

Again, there might be more.  There are kitsch movies I like too.

Are kitsch movies the ones where they give you the Vaseline and encourage you to go at it?

I love those, too.
