Title: Official I’m Sorry thread
Post by: Kaos on November 25, 2017, 07:25:53 PM
I’m sorry Gus.  I really am.  I didn’t think you could learn. But you did.  Coincidentally or not, you’ve coached like a completely different man since the Jacobstross was removed from your neck.

We didn’t beat Georgia or Alabama by some fluke, miracle or prayer. We were straight up man to man fucking better than they were.  Didn’t think it was possible.

I’m sorry I turned away.  I was wrong.

There are still things that baffle me. But not today.  Today you earned it. You earned a ridiculously Jacobsian extension.

I humbly apologize.

Is Snags still going to fire him?

Woot boys! That was impressive. Other than the fumble, I was very, very impressed.

We looked great against a good team. 👍

You all looking like a bunch of morons for calling for Gus’ head is only part of the story.

Do you remember a more dominating win? Maybe dominating isn’t the word. But there was s little doubt who was the better team tonight.

I still think they are very good. And I know they are banged up. They are always going to “what if” and second guess. But Shazam!

We spanked that ass on both sides, we did.

That was sweet.

That was more of a Thanksgiving ass whipping, IMO.

And honestly, I only thought we’d see an ass whipping like that today, if I finally caught up with Chizzy. Color me surprised at the severity. Not that we won but how convincing.

Can't take away the last 3 weeks...nope not at all. Don't want to either...War Damn Eagle!  Eating crow, apologizing, and all that other jazz...not so fast my friend. Gus needs to give us consistency.

Glad Jay is gone.

Gus is currently managing very well which is what we wanted from him all along. There is no need for apologies if he allows Lindsey to do his job.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

We are one of the four however
it appears we just lost KJ and Matthews. And as good as we have been, we are now vulnerable next week.

Have to manage and game plan around critical injuries if we are to continue.

Hopefully but neither has proven they can move the chains like Pettway and KJ.
We owned the time of possession v. Bama due largely on KJ's super effort and Steele's defense getting after it. Add two key runs by Stidham.
That said, I can hate on UGA and its fanbase till the cows come home but its tough to beat a rival twice. Yes we dominated them three weeks ago at home when we were healthy.

Ill eat crow. And I think Jay's situation is much of it. It is no coincidence that we started going lights out when Jay started to become headline fodder and then when it officially became true - that he was out. It was like Gus got rejuventaed and was coaching to win, not to just "not lose" and safe.

Would also like to apologize to Stidham. It took him half the season, but he's come around. That was impressive. His completion % is sick the last 6 games. He's as good a QB as there is in the conference. He had 2 years of rust that took a while to knock off. But he has now. He's become the gunslinger we thought he would be now. He's learned what to do under pressure now. And I like it.

I ain't apologizing for shit.  He finally did what he should have done the last 3 wasted years.  Why weren't you coaching this way then?  Because of Jacobs?  Are you people on crack?

I'm as happy as any Auburn fan about the way they've finished.  This weekend was epic.  Bananas even.  Consistency is the key.  Finally finding the missing formula, which may have been as simple as STAY THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY, after shitting the bed since 2013, ain't apologize worthy.  It's "Good, you're finally earning your $5 million a year" worthy.

What’s really funny is how people can say the dumbest thing over and over. Then, when it’s proved wrong, they somehow believe refusing to apologize makes them look right?

It doesn’t. Just makes them look like a bigger dumbass.

GH2001 say: Ill eat crow. And I think Jay's situation is much of it.

Snags say:  I think GH did.

Keywords. "Way too".

And yes I think Jay has to do with A LOT of it. Have a boss breath down your neck. Always fearing for your job and see how you perform. Or how long you want to stick around. It happened with Tubs as well. We know this. Read Scarbinsky's article from a week or so ago. The two men have a fractured relationship and have for a while.

And the eating crow part has everything to do with how low all of us we're putting his coaching ability at - on a 6th grade peewee fb level most of the season. That was never true. We were all just pissed. Me included. At times it looked like peewee fb. But he's not that level of a coach overall and we all know it. Eating some crow on that doesn't mean anyone is saying he isn't without flaw.

One big PFFFFFFFFFFT.......  Let's talk about Malzahn/Jay for a moment.

Jacobs having any influence whatsoever on Malzahn's coaching???  Two words.  B & S.  There has been ZERO evidence of the following.  Unless you or anyone can show me that Jay Jacobs:

*Had any say in who Malzahn recruited.
*Had any say in the strength and conditioning program or how players were developed.
*How practices were conducted or what fundamentals were stressed...what drills were run.
*How they came out of the tunnel
*How pre-game warm ups were run
*What uniforms they wore
*Whether or not we played 5 QB's in a game when we didn't have 5 on the roster
*Whether or not one of those non QB's would fake 6 hand offs and then do a twirly-bird and heave it to the other team
*Whether or not we would have absolutely no back up plan when a QB went down with injury
*Going to Clemson with the entire playbook written on a coffee stained napkin and consisting of "Run injured Kam 62 times in middle.  Throw long."
*Was on a headset in the press box in Baton Rude saying, "I don't give a damn if it's been 14 straight runs up the middle on first down.  I'm Jay Fucking Jacobs.  Run it again"

We're just covering the last year.  Unless you can show me that Jay did any of that, then he had no influence whatsoever on Malzahn's coaching.  As for a fractured relationship and breathing down his neck? How exactly does that affect play calling?  Enquiring minds want to know.  You can't call a game like last night because you and the AD are on the outs?  Nor do you run it up the middle 16 times in a row just because you and your boss don't get along.  If you're that much of a mental midget and taking $5 mil per from said boss, you don't need to be the head of a D1 program.  As a matter of fact, it should be the opposite.  Said coach should be saying nothing less than, "I'll show that asshole."

Finish.

It has to happen.
We have to finish off Georgia and win the SEC Title.
That matters to ME.
Then it's more or less come what may because it's sort of who you draw from there.

Right now my own selfish concern is having a healthy beast at RB to make this offense click. Stidham will deliver but we need a solid ground game to eat clock and rest our defense.

I keep wishing for Pettway to make a remarkable recovery and be in game shape. The effort by KJ has been amazing. He's been our mvp, our Marcus Allen. Has he got anything left?

There's no doubt in my mind that Gus can coach. But he can't slum here at Auburn the way Saban did at Michigan State and expect us to accept it. BWAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!

Saban at Mich. St. 34-24-1            Gus at AU 45-20

I think we have our guy but agree on the consistency.
Eliminate inexplicable loses and coach to win.

Yeah, I have no desire to be involved in a coaching search right now, and I'm certainly not suggesting in any of my diatribe above that Gus be runt offt.  More looking at his history here and begging for a little more consistency, especially with the talent we have, and have had.

On that note, I also don't want to see this administration, whoever is calling the shots, make the mistake of getting all giddy when things go well and re-work Gus' contract. (We have a long history of doing that)  If you want to reward the man for job well done in beating our rivals and winning the West, then stroke him a one-time big ole check.  Because guess what?  Beating our rivals and winning the West is what we expected when you signed your current contract.

Checked the dot  I am a gay twerker that has no balls!!!!  I also have no idea how to use the quote function to post stories, so I annoy the piss out of others.  I like male genatalia in and around my mouth..  Read the quotes from Malzahn yesterday on everything from playing Georgia again to the status of individual players and their availability for Saturday.  The very last quote was:

On if he's committed to Auburn in 2018: "I'm honored to be the head coach at Auburn."

Was that one blip selected from a 5 sentence answer where he said I'll absolutely be back?  Or was that it?  Because nothing in that says commitment.

The last two SEC games are as impressive as anything I’ve seen in my lifetime.

Tuberville had a chance or two to throttle bama. Will never forget CT telling me they could have easily scored 50 in 2004 (or was it 06, whichever wasn’t the sack game).  But we didn’t. Played tight. Let them hang in.

Dye never just whipped bama’s ass.  Bowden never did.  Chizik never did.

None of them competed against an Alabama at the peak of its cheating power either.  None of them bitch slapped an Alabama team in full preening glory.

What we saw Saturday was a grown up ass beating. Mid first quarter on I had no doubt. It was as calm as I’ve ever been watching that game.  As good as they allegedly are, as many five stars as they’ve stacked up, we were flat out better than them. At every spot on the field.

This wasn’t a last second Clemson drive, a kick six return or a miracle comeback.  We punched them in the face and there wasn’t a damn thing they could do about it but act like thug bitches.

What we did to them should encourage the rest of the SEC.  There is no reason to be scared of them.  No reason to play not to lose - Mississippi State.

I didn’t think Gus had that in him.  But as I’ve pointed out repeatedly he is learning on the job.  It appears he has learned finally. I’m willing to shut the fuck up (maybe) and see how he progresses from here.

If y'all fuckers can't swallow your pride and admit your were wrong (along with me and every other Auburn fan after the LSU game) then you're just being a stubborn jackass.

Every single damn question the Auburn fan base has had about Gus since he's been hear he's answered the bell everytime. Emphatically at that.

Can he win without a running QB? Absolutely.

Can he ever field a quality defense while running a HUNH offense? Best defense since '04. Maybe be better.

Can he win the big game without a miracle/fluke play? Well he just absolutely crushed our 2 biggest rivals, who were both ranked #1 at the time, by the biggest margin in almost 50 years.

Will he ever be able to develop an intermediate passing attack, instead of throwing 60 yard bombs every play? His offense just ripped bama's ass apart with crossing routes, 5-10 yard hitches.

Yet, here we are and now we need to see some consistency.

How's this for consistency? In the 25 years the SECC has existed, Auburn is about to/has played in it 6 times. 3 of those or happened with Gus on AU's sideline. Of the 3 SECC AU has won, Gus was on the sideline for 2 of them and has a chance for making it 3 out of the 4 next Saturday. All this within his 8 years at AU as either OC or HC. Also lets not forget the only 2 years he wasn't at AU over the last decade, Auburn was a combined 2-14 in the SEC.

Btw, I know this board is pretty light hearted most of the time but if you ain't back on the bus now, you are absolutely crazy. God help you when Kaos' grumpy ass sees the light but you don't.

That last paragraph. I think it pretty much sums up the thread and it's purpose to me. Most of us gave up on him. We thought he was 2A high school level. We thought he was done. I guess he wasn't. Glad we were wrong.

So 5 weeks erases 3 1/2 years for you?  Look, everyone is on Cloud 9 about what just happened.  But 5 short weeks ago, the only discussion on this board concerned a list of potential names to replace Gus Malzahn.  Nobody is saying fire Gus.  The few of us slowing our roll are asking to see this type of coaching throughout next year and beyond.  Not demanding wins like this every week but knowing our coach maximized the potential of his team.  He's done that in maybe half the games this year and served up two shit sandwiches.  Just glad he "figured it out" at the right time.

Which leads me to a question.  Just what is the difference?  Did he say screw it and I'm running what I did at Tulsa? (I have no idea what he ran there).  Did he turn it all over to Chip and let him run with it?  Did he and Chip find a way to collaborate and double-team the schemes and play calling?  It has to be one of the above.

Another question.  Guess who is suddenly one of the hottest, up and coming offensive minds in college football, and who could easily bolt for a Mid Major?

No. Not at all but I think this is where we as fans become a little egregious and simply lay all the blame at the feet of Gus. When you take a more objective view, you start to notice some things.

The way 2014 ended was a product of a defensive collapse, pure and simple. Hell we scored 44 in the Iron Bowl, lost by 11, and gave up close to 40 points a game in those 5 losses. What does Gus do? Within 3 years, delivers one of the best Auburn defenses I've seen in my 39 years.

I think many will agree 2015 and 2016 were the product of terrible QB play/injuries to the QB position. Throw in a suspect route tree sometimes and we were shutdown against quality defenses. We will never know how those 2 seasons ended if Sean would've stayed healthy. Would AU have won the SEC? Doubtful but ask Jimbo down at FSU what its like to play the season without your QB. Of course today, here we are, with the best QB in the SEC and outscoring SEC team by an average of 41-19.

Not that they even truly matter (besides being an ego stroke for us fans) but go ahead and take an objective look at our 2 losses. Auburn played the defending NC and currently the new #1 team in the country (also the 3rd AU has played this season) on the road. Hell many might just look at that alone kind understand a loss happening. Yet, Auburn was also without Kerryon, had a banged up Pettway and a QB who had 3 starts in his career along with not having played in a game in almost 2 years. Throw in a new OC just 1 game into the season and you can kinda see why we lost 14-6. Of course after the loss every Auburn fan (myself included) didn't give a shit about any of that. We were just pissed Auburn didn't win and went with the good ole' screw Gus.

Auburn fans (again myself included) did the same after the LSU game too. Nobody said shit about losing Tre William, Tray Matthews, and 3 guys on our O-line after we got up 20-0. Nope all everyone need see was the stat about running the ball 17x on first down and it was time to burn it all to the ground. Now I still agree that the offense got conservative way too early but looking back on how damn ferocious this defense is, can you sit here and tell me Gus was a damn fool to think they could hold a 20 point lead?

Like I said, I was pissed as anyone at Gus after that LSU game, but I was wrong in thinking this guy isn't one hell of a coach. Hes definitely a top 10 coach. Wins it all this year and it can easily be argued hes top 5. I'd bet money, they are 12 other schools in this league, along with roughly 120 FBS schools that would've hired him yesterday if they thought he'd go there. To think Auburn could easily replace him or needs to be cautious about increasing his buyout to much is arrogant as hell honestly.

Let me splain something to the few of you that are not digesting crow. I’m not mad at you. You’re football ignorant and it’s not your fault.

Probably played the tuba or in the drum line and try to talk football to fit in with the boys. No need to be embarrassed but listen closely to what we’ve been trying to tell you.

Gus is the head guy. When we suck, like the 2nd half of lsu, he gets most of the blame. 2012 season, etc. it’s on Gus.

When we play well, Gus gets most of the credit. It doesn’t make a shit who was calling plays. I hope it was Chip. That’s what Gus hires him to do.

AU Just beat 2 number one teams in 3 weeks. Screw your “consistency” calls. This team is playing better than I’ve seen an Auburn team play, all around. If we fix kick offs and punts a little, we very well may win it all.

As K pointed out, they didn’t just win. They beat them.

I can tell you, even if they were to lose in ATL, they won’t lay an egg. Personally, I think we are 10 points better with a walk on RB.

Just eat your crow. Or, continue to look like you were in the color guard. Makes not a shit to me.

That's me... slowing my roll. We have looked really good on offense since the second half of the LSU game. I haven't been screaming obscenities at the television since that game.
All I want is for Gus to play to win.

Some of you guys have a hell of a revisionist history going on.

2014, wasted Marshall. 2015, JJ sucked ass. Why did Gus not see that coming?

Hell, in 2016, Gus didn't even play Sean in the fucking Clemson game. We used 3 QB's and a twirly bird.

Clemson game this year was much of the same. LSU, as mad as I have ever been at a coach.

Hopefully all that shit is behind him, but to sit here and say snags isn't being objective is FAAAAAR from accurate...

Hes definitely a top 10 coach. Wins it all this year and it can easily be argued hes top 5. I'd bet money, they are 12 other schools in this league, along with roughly 120 FBS schools that would've hired him yesterday if they thought he'd go there.

Dude, after the LSU game, I am not sure he would have been hired at ANY of the TOP power 5 schools...

Honestly, the UGA and Alabama games were some of the best play calling I have seen in a long time. It was flawless play calling and near perfect execution. If Alabama stacked the box, Stidham had the option to toss it out wide. There were crossing routes and power runs in the tackles which is what you have to do against Alabama. Just absolutely beautiful.

What happened? Is Chip now calling the plays? Is Stidham just now getting comfortable in the offense? Even last year with Sean, the play calling wasn't like this. What is different?

If it's chip, what happens if he leaves? ($1 to snags) Whirly bird? Rotating QB's? I just don't think we can anoint Gus as the a top 5 coach when we aren't really sure what the deal is.

He should get a lot of credit because he is ultimately responsible for it all. And I am thankful that he is running the show this year as it looks like he has removed his head from his ass. The defense is stout! The offense play calling and execution is brilliant! Special teams are fantastic (outside of kick coverage). It looks like things have come together nicely at the right time. Still 3 games to go.

Right now, I don't want Gus going anywhere, especially with all the bullshit going on. But that doesn't mean I think he is the end-all, be-all. I have been tricked like that before. However, if we lose to UGA, I personally wouldn't be surprised if he went to Arkansas.

Tubs was a master at not showing his hand too early. Saving looks for last few games. I think Gus does the same.

Couple that with a first year QB and OC, you get a 180 between the halves of the season.

Also, he has been doing a lot better of learning on the job for sure. And we are fine nelly getting decent depth. He made what appears to be two of the best coordinator hires in our history.

We can’t erase the past but geez Louise, let’s gice the guy credit. No team has EVER beaten two number ones in the same season, let alone 3 weeks.

Damn people. I’m getting worked up again.

Easy for you to say. You are lucky.

When I do finally go off, you are not first on the list. You’ll have time to prepare yourself, if you are watching CNN.

First stop is either New Orleans or Dothan. Not saying.

But you are damn well on the list.

He has fixed a lot of things we all were bitching about, and he has added wrinkles I never imagined.  I feel like a dumbass for some stuff I've said about him.

So a tough loss for the Indians as Pedro Cerrano doubles off a pigeon and is tagged out while administering CPR before the tying run could score. Funny game ain't it Monty?

Not a 180. Moving more toward the middle. Neither extreme is good. Is he Vince Lombardi? No.  Is he mike Dubose? No. That's all I'm saying. Many of us were saying the latter. And I don't think this excuses him from ever fucking up again. It may happen.

It WILL happen again.  You are talking about a game played by 18-22 year olds.  We are dangerously close to immolating those that we hate the most.

Players doing something stupid, making mistakes, or not playing well is completely different than a gameplan with a twirly bird QB or running it up the gut on 1st and 2nd down into an 8 man front before throwing a 40 yard prayer on third and 8.

Yes and no.  Look, I fully endorse Gus catching shit for his failings and he certainly has had some and will have some more down the road, but I have heard the same things said about every coach we have had including Shug. All of them!  And it is more difficult to be successful now than it has EVER been since there are more games to play and more of a microscope that everyone is under.  I am not giving stupid shit a pass but one must realize that there has always been stupid shit we just know about it more so now.  Dye got his shit pushed in plenty of times when he shouldn't have.  In fact I remember a certain Florida game played that was eerily similar to this year's LSU game where we were highly ranked and threw away a a sure win and we should have been loaded for all comers in 86.  The off games and collapses happen is all I'm saying and I am not willing to throw away the good over some bumps in the road.....oh, and fuck Jay.

Agreed.  And one call of a prevent defense against LSU by Sir Patrick cost us a shot at the MNC.  It happens.  I'll say it again, I am in no way calling for a change at the top.  Not at all.  Admittedly, I would have cheered Malzahn getting the axe after last year because I was certain the man had loss he damn mind.  And I'm going to go Prowlie here and tell you I predicted (As did many others) that while Gus said he was going to turn it over to Co Lindsey, he wouldn't be able to keep his clammy paws off of it.  He couldn't.

But it seems he righted the ship at exactly the right time and the results have been jizz-worthy. My question is what did he do to make it happen and will he keep that same formula in place going forward?

And the only thing I can rationally point towards is a change in his demeanor once Jacobs announced his retirement, along with Leath saying a replacement would happen sooner rather that later.

He got the message after LSU. That presser afterwards told me some certain others including  players had an intervention with his ego and pointed to squatting on a lead for the overall failures.
He actually felt the heat and he LISTENED. We can only hope he will remember what got him this far and he will continue to not allow the false security to revisit.

Say it!’ Then he squeezes the deer in such a way that a sound comes out of its mouth — “Billclark!” It wasn’t exactly it, but it was pretty good for a deer.
