Title: Octoberfest Brews
Post by: jmar on August 26, 2016, 02:08:35 PM
September is the month to celebrate (correction:any month is) and these seasonal's are flowing to a vendor near you.

Able to try about a half dozen locally (kind of rural) and would value some feedback from you big city out of staters so I might search out some not so easy to find fest and pumpkin brews. Sam Adams' is the top seller though I'm currently enjoying this season's Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest. Very tasty!
Also saw Abita which are generally too thin lest they be found on draft. My son warned my to steer clear of another in the Shoals area. But hey, taste is subjective especially when malt, yeast, hops, grains and sugars are involved.

Anyway...let's hear it!

Agree.
Fuck Starbucks. They haven't a corner or any solitary right to any flavor to the best of my knowledge.

And a pumpkin has as much business in a brew as a goddamned pineapple...Sculpin or no!

Not a pumpkin fan myself but you sir are a pumpkin bigot.

Haven't really found many uses for the pumpkin beyond kids and adults with too much time on their hands carving them for Halloween.
Pumpkin pie?
Nope...like sweet potato much more.

Fall beer yes. But pumpkin has no place in a beer. Wes is absolutely correct here.

Some people rave about a local out of Birmingham called Snakehandler. And don't get me wrong, I like some pine notes but this brew (to me) tastes like it contains a fair amount of Pinesol.
And nothing against Pinesol 'cause it sure makes for some clean smelling bathrooms.

But I digress: The pumpkin has destroyed Octoberfest, certainly the intent of this thread.
Fuck you pumpkin! And fuck your cousin Hazelnut too.

Pine trees and sap also have no place in beer. That's what gin is already there for.

If you have never been its worth going to at least once. I think they still deliver the beer on horse draw wagon (At least they did back in the day) The drunker I got the more I understood German.

Toffee and Coffee just doesn't appeal to me ...not my style, usually the highlights of the darker beers.  Rogue has a maple bacon beer in pretty pink bottle which are both hideous.

Pumpkin Beer never tried and probably won't just sounds better as an ice cream or pie.

I will slow your roll on the fruity beers...those I don't mind at all ...Lost Coast Brewery in NORCAL makes a fantastic watermelon wheat as well as a tangerine wheat. Mind you I will hit my favorite hipster brew PBR before these fruit infused brews.  Rogue makes a fruit salad cider which is delicious.

Taste is subjective as are beer snobs.
I'm more into traditional beer but open to different types, seasonals and different variations of styles.  None can replace my goto brews although some of the odd types are very tasty.

Britain really likes our hops and are importing our microbrews which might signal the end of civilization as we know it.

You need to ride up to Gadsden and have a few straight out of the barrel. Best brown ale I've ever had.

Hey cider is the bomb. I'll admit.
