Title: Tonight, tonight...
Post by: Kaos on January 11, 2016, 02:47:37 PM
It's coming tonight...

Bama is going to manhandle Clemson.  I can feel it.  It's in the air.  The level of supreme cockiness hasn't been this high since the late 70s.  It was unfortunately warranted then and it's warranted now.  Dumbo Swinney is a rampaging moron with all the class of a stripper at a gentleman's club in DeSoto Mississippi. He's going to get trampled by the machine that is Alabama.

Oddly enough, the Tide is high for the same reasons it always is when it crests. Then, as during the Bryant years, that poorly-educated rabble was led by a dictatorial fuckhead of a coach who was elevated to near-god status by the fanbase, and fawned over by a media so enamored with his 'legend' that he could have taken a frothy shit on their heads and they'd wax poetically about the consistency and aroma.

They've reached this championship status by having an in at the NCAA that they used to batter the opposition while simultaneously keeping some of the most blatant and egregious offenses in the history of the game from being questioned.  Had any other program had the Tom Al-Betar situation, it would be nuked back to the leather helmet days. Add in the textbooks, the wheelz, the Davis/Phillips cash transactions and coaches selling drugs on campus and handing out cash to players... any other program is eviscerated.  But not them.

So tonight they'll coronate again. A fanbase where 85% of them never attended the school and where 95% of that number derives every ounce of self worth from the success of a football program that wouldn't piss on their broke, uneducated, redneck asses if they were on fire will get to feel good about itself for 365 more days.  That bunch will go to bed tonight feeling for all the world as if they're "winners" in life. Tomorrow, they'll go back to working for people like me and you.  Or drawing they checks.  Whatever. But they'll feel good inside because "you're team is a bunch of loosers."

I'm not going to watch it.  There's nothing there of interest for me at all.

Unfortunately, you are correct.

I hope...HOPE we are all wrong and Dumbo Swinney has an epiphany tonight, but I just aint counting on it. I don't think Watson is gonna be given the chance to do much damage. I dont think their OL can hold Bama's front 7 for very long.

The plane trip was too expensive for most bammers and it's not like anyone would be stupid enough to drive all the way the fuck out there.

Does anyone besides Alabama and Clemson fans give a shit about this game?

I honestly can't believe college football isn't over yet. Feels like it ended two weeks ago.

Not that I give a half a tit for Clemson, I am shocked at the shitty officiating when the Turds are on offense!

On their last scoring drive, a huge block I the back on a defenseless guy. And a offensive tackle to the head of a defender on the goal line. Pathetic!

Might be about to get whipped.

Very evenly matched after one half.  Both teams starting to get good pressure.  Both with missed FG's.  D. Watson is as advertised.  He's the whole offense. Without his scrambling ability, this isn't close.  But, he's a bad man and Clemson is able to play them straight up because of him.  Reuben Foster is all over the place on D.

Wow.  The whole game turns on an on sides kick where Bama had 2 guys off sides.  Un fucking real.  Make the right call and Clemson wins the MNC.  What the hell has happened with NCAA refs?

That's about as perfect as that play can get.  Nobody was offsides.

Dabo's complaint was that they had that same play against USCe last year, and it was called as a penalty.  The only problem is, in the USCe game, there was actually a USCe player under the ball in the process of making the catch and he was hit by a Clemson player, thus making it kick catch interference.  In this case, there wasn't anybody there attempting to make a catch.

Sure....ok. If you say so. You have it all figured all.

Is your life worthy now that a football team - from a school you have no connection with, never been to a game at - won it all? Are you complete? Because this is 90% of you people. I would like for that Pyschology guy from Foxnews (Keith Ablow) to do a writeup on your fan base and the underlying issues you have.

There were two clock snafus that could have impacted the outcome:

1) the six seconds or so at the end of the half; and
2) At 5:45, after Gallman's crazy catch and run he steps out of bounds.  The clock ran for another 5 seconds before the clock was ultimately stopped on a timeout.

Ultimately, though, I was impressed with Clemson and I'm certainly nervous about opening our season with them in August.

The only thing I saw was the non-touchdown.  Showed the replay from above.  Clearly didn't get in.  Never showed that angle again. Instead treated to several grainy side views and herb going "oh yeah, that's a touchdown."   Bullshit.

I thought that was a great game. Bama won fair and square. There were a few bad calls from the refs, but it's football. It happens.

Clemson had just as many opportunities to win the game as Bama did. If they cover OJ Howard one out of three times in the 2nd half, they probably win.

Hey, I bet next year, Bama loses a game early in the season and still is in position to win the national championship by the end.

Well after the fact.  When it no longer matters.

As for Dumbo?  He won't succeed at Bama.  It takes a dictatorial asshole to do so there.  He doesn't have that mentality.  I don't see another coach out there there as big a prick as saban.  Good guys, nice guys, players coaches, emotional coaches ...'all will get ground up by the boosters.

Nope.  He's not a douche.

I'm telling you, I've walked this path before.  Saban will leave.  They'll call somebody back home to Mama ( :puke:) and he'll do okay (Ray Perkins) for a while.  They'll start to flounder and go off the beaten path trying to net another Saban (and end up with Bill Curry).  At this point -- about eight or nine years removed from their last title of any kind -- they'll get desperate and bring somebody back with ties to Saban (Stallings then, Smart, Muschamp, Fisher whoever now).  Whoever they bring back will think he can do what Saban did, cheat his fucking ass off and get busted.  Then he'll quit.  They'll raise up one of his assistants hoping to keep the gravy train running (DuBose then, Scott Cochran now) and things will implode.  They'll try to recapture the glory days and will hire a former player (Shula then, McCarron, McGinger, or some other fuckhole now) and the decline will be epic.  At that point they'll either luck up and hire somebody who can resurrect the program or they'll hire somebody that buries it for decades.  Won't matter to me because I'll be too old to care or dead by the time that comes around.

Although I agree Shula isnt a great coach, I dont think he was inept considering the hand he was dealt there. Seems like a nice enough guy which is probably why it didnt work out, as you said - too nice.
