Muschamp’s contract with Auburn is such that he can leave after the SEC championship game has ended and not owe Auburn a cent.

Jay Jacobs continues to be an absolute moron.

Is that what's being reported?

Because the only report I'm seeing is this one: http://www.wbrc.com/story/30664440/reports-auburn-dc-muschamp-resigns-as-dc-likely-headed-to-south-carolina

Which says that Muschamp has resigned and has not accepted another position yet. In fact, it goes on to say that Rich Rod is interviewing for the USCe job.

I sorta agree.  Ask him to be Co-DC along with T-Rob to keep some continuity and the recruiting class together.

Makes zero sense.  If he waits until Sunday he doesn't owe us a million.  He leaves today, he owes us a million.

I'm really ambivalent.

Bama fans were shitting their pants with mocking glee when Muschamp was hired. He was a failed coach, would destroy the program from within, his hiring showed pure desperation.

Bama fans are shitting their pants with mocking glee now that it looks like he will leave. He was the only chance our defense had to be competitive. His defection shows how desperate things are at Auburn. Where ever he goes he will be fucking awesome. In fact, if he reunited with Saban that would be the best coaching combination in the country.

I never really thought he was a long-term thing.  He jumped on the same horse shit expectation rocket most of us did.  Auburn was going to score points. Johnson was going to lead the SEC.  All he had to do was give the defense a slight improvement and he'd be coaching in the playoffs, his Florida experiment would be forgotten and he could sail off into any number of head coaching jobs.  He doesn't want to be a DC, but saw what he thought was an opportunity to spin straw into gold and shake off the tarnish.

He did his job.  Defense may have been "statistically worse" but other than the LSU game, they limited every opponent to few enough points to win every single time out had Malzahn's dysfunctional offense reached its historical average.  Auburn scores at the clip that every other Gus offense (except 2011) has?  You're looking at a one-loss SEC champ.  And a playoff participant, just like most expected.  Nobody -- not Muschamp, not me, not you -- could have predicted that Johnson would try to suck his own dick and collapse under the lights.

He was a one-year deal anyway.  I never really thought otherwise. He just thought he'd leave us with a ring and  better off than he found us. And when it went wrong?  He wasn't Gus' guy.  He was the odd man out.

I just wish we could do this kind of shit without that smug fuck Jacobs getting his grubby pawprints all over it, and without it looking like the motherfucking Keystone Cops.

We lose TRob-DC to Muschamp.
Rocker would likely (if offered) take DC at Auburn but we hàve Garner.
I don't think Garner moves and that's a problem. The DC should hire his own guys right? But as d-line coach and Associate Head Coach with commits this presents a problem.

I think Bama fans - and others including Auburn fans - recognize that next season is a "put up or get out" year for Malzahn. And it's not going to be an easy finish. @Georgia and @Alabama could easily end the season with two difficult losses to bear. If the team is again going through an identity crisis with a new coordinator on defense, we might have enough losses to call for Gus's head.

That's why they're celebrating. They just know that Auburn has a good shot of being a losing program for the next few years unless Gus somehow gets his offense back on track.

Muschamp's contract was through the regular season, provided Auburn didn't make it to the SEC Championship. So, after the Iron Bowl was Auburn's end of the regular season. Muschamp hasn't owed Auburn anything since the clock hit zero last Saturday.

Call me old fashioned, but I think Muschamp owes Auburn the work he promised to do in rebuilding the defense. Granted I have no idea what it's like to jump from job to job with millions of dollars being the difference between each salary, but it's always been baffling to me how someone could uproot their family to a new city every year or two like that.

I completely disagree. He owes us nothing unless his contract says otherwise. I hate to see him go.

Like all of us ...opportunities can provide change under the presumption for the better.  I believe you made a change.  Did you owe your employer something? Where you working to make a difference?  Did you make a move?

Relying on contract specifics - He owed us 5 years. I owed my school 1 year and was re-signed each year. I left at the end of the contract.

Of course he can make a move to something better. I'm not saying he shouldn't. I think I'm more confused by how these coaches - or anyone really - can just jump job to job every year.

Muschamp lived in Auburn, AL from 2006-2007.
Then he lived in Austin, TX from 2008-2011.
Then he lived in Gainesville, FL from 2012-2014.
Then he lived in Auburn, AL in 2015.
Now he's going to live in Columbia, SC?

Is it always that much better? Does being a coordinator just suck? These guys are extremely competitive, so I'm sure it would burn him to feel like settling as a coordinator rather than take a head coaching job.

But as someone with a family, I can't imagine bouncing them around like that every few years. I think that's what I mean by being old fashioned. I see staying at Auburn for a while as a highly paid defensive coordinator as the better option. Security for the family. Extended family is already here. The chance to rebuild a once-proud defense.

Dave Aranda-Wisconsin DC. Makes less than 500K and is a fucking geni...uh, he's really keen.

Interviewed with the Packers this past season. Ran a 3-4 this season but kicked ass running a 4-3 previously. Why wouldn't he listen the way Auburn throws money around? And unlike Paul Rhoads and Will Muschamp, he doesn't have that head coaching taste in his mouth, not yet.

I'm okay with Rhoads, Rocker or even T-Rob but we need stability, we need to continue improving and we need to retain the commits we have (if we can) and build on it. Whomever we end up with must also concede to having Rodney Garner (Barkley's cousin) as a co-worker.

Also:
* Don Brown- Boston College
He's much older than Aranda but top notch at his craft.
And like Florida, B.C. can't score points but they are flat out stingy on defense.

However, I'm getting the feeling Muschamp isn't going anywhere. If true, I am very happy.

Scratch that, Rich says no to USCe. Well, looks like Muschamp will be their next HC.

I am a master negotiator.

I ran off Tommy Tuberville. I bounced Gene Chizik. I got rid of Muschamp not once but twice. I told Tracy Rocker to hit the bricks. I made sure we owed everybody who left an assload of money. Either that or I structured the contract so they could fuck us over and owe nothing.

Yes.

I think it's time to firmly establish that no one can help/not hurt Auburn until the main source of shit is gone from the athletic department.

As stated before but to add on to it:

He ran off Tuberville.

He brought in 5-19 Chin Chizik.

He searched as far as the next number on his phone to hire Gus Malzahn.

Multiple coaches with a history of success have failed or been run off in their time at Auburn (Muschamp, Franklin (look at his history of producing good offenses), Van Gorder, Johnson, Muschamp again, Rocker, TRob).

Auburn is in the red financially, and we're still paying off contracts that had us by the balls.

He hired a baseball coach with a known history of behavior issues and he was fired after one year. He hired quite possibly the worst basketball coach in Auburn's history with Barbee. He hired Bruce Pearl who may be a great coach but came with a history of NCAA issues.

He's changed the atmosphere of football Saturdays. The jumbotron is a monstrosity that does nothing for the overall fan experience. It's merely a notch on his belt to get the "biggest." Biggest what, I don't know. But it's the biggest.

Let's not forget that Auburn was the number one swimming and diving program in the country when David Marsh was here, and Jay Jacobs pushed him out.

Maybe it's not the fault of Jay Jacobs. Maybe it's all a coincidence.

I don't want a "Auburn man" as a DC just because he's an Auburn man, I want the best fuckin Defensive Coordinator this side of Buddy Ryan, I don't give a rat's ass where he previously coached or played. I want a coach that's mean, nasty, eats concertina wire and pisses goddamn napalm.

"Well he's not a Auburn guy..."
"Well Auburn's going to continue down the path it's headed, because we have a 'Auburn guy' as AD and he's a fuckin retard that was in charge of tickets before becoming the Athletic Director at Auburn. Coach Malzahn coached at Auburn as a OC before becoming the HC, so he's a 'Auburn guy' and he's spiraling downward because the job he's being paid to Millions to do is apparently a bit too much. Coach Rhett Lashlee coached at Auburn and then at Samford under Pat Sullivan, so he's a 'Auburn guy', his offensive play calling, along with Coach Malzahn is bad and his QBs minus Sean White are garbage. Coach Dameyune Craig played and set records at Auburn, so he's a 'Auburn guy', his receivers are horrible. Coach Rodney Garner played at Auburn, so he's a 'Auburn guy', his DL were on roller skates most of the season and if Carl Lawson hadn't come back we would've lost a couple more games."

So, about this "Auburn guy", give me the best DC out there...apparently we didn't learn from our sister school on the west side of the State when they continued running through "bama guys" for coaches.

I think the problem is the cocksucker sitting in the AD's chair.

Agree. And if we so happen to end up with Charles Kelly we all hope he turns out to be Buddy Ryan.

What is so irritating is that any DC should be able to hire his own guys.
So the caveat for any viable DC candidate is having to make an allowance for Garner.
And it's nothing against Garner who was a hot recruiter when we snatched him away from UGA, it's just that there always has to be a snag in play to fuck up the works. And as it stands, he's in the way.

We've had some of the statistically worst and physically weakest defenses in Auburn history over the last seven years.

A hairless monkey with an eczema pocked nutsack as DC couldn't be any worse than what we've been.  Can't see how it matters.

The offense has to get unfucked  in a hurry or we could hire Ghengis Kahn and equip the defense with war clubs and it won't make any difference.

For the bold part to change, we need to get a new SC coach, and modify our philosophy.

Noles247 reports Kelly loyal to Jimbo, likely to stay. Also states Kelly would want a very large raise and a three year contract. But seriously, Pruitt was making 1.3 at UGA and stands to command even more upon leaving. And that's after a bidding war ensues between AU and the Turds which should never occur. So money should not be a sticking point in any negotiations with Kelly. We can give him 3 years and that hefty raise if we truly want him. Never stopped us before.

We need more than a couple of names in the hat for bargaining power but I'm with you on this. This guy seems to be where he wants to be.

Plus, a couple of years recruiting the south at Vandy isn't enough for his name to resonate with recruits. Can't question his experience level but I don't think he's a legitimate candidate. I could be wrong but we all know that isn't likely.
