Title: The National...Football...League
Post by: Snaggletiger on September 29, 2015, 09:45:48 AM
Just to take an occasional break from the wailing and gnashing of teeth over Auburn football, you can putcher NFL stuff here.  A couple of general observations early in the season.

A-A-Ron Blake Rodgers is a bad man. 5 more TD passes last night. But the thing is, while I'm not a Green Bay fan or hater for that matter, it's to the point that if he's playing, I'm gonna' watch.  He's developed to the point that he just does what he wants. His passes are pinpoint, no matter what angle or position he's throwing from.  It's like Brady.  I'm the same way with him and the Pats.  Don't really care either way, but I was pulling for them in the Super Bowl just because I just dislike the Seasquawks so much.  But Brady, with the improved grip on the ball, was just plain fun to watch.  Hit every receiver in stride no matter what the situation.  Same with Mr. Discount Double Check now.

Favorite all time QB to watch though, is/was Manning, especially in his prime.  If you think about what this guy has done all these years, I can't think of another QB that has that freedom.  It's back yard foosballz on steroids.  He walks up to the line and literally creates a play.  Through all the jibberish and code words, he's saying, "You run this route. The LB is playing there so you run this route.  The corner is playing press man so sprint to the azalea bush and do a button hook."  Love watching it.

Sorry for the Falcons/Bama reference. Nauseating to some.  But Julio is just killing it.  In 3 games he has 34 receptions for 440 yards and 4 TD's.  He owned the Cowboys Sunday.  He's on pace to blow several records out of the water, although I don't expect it to last given his history of injuries.  WAAA WAAAAAA....

Speaking of injuries and the Cowboys.  They done!

Panthers are doing pretty good. They just acquired Jared Allen from the Bears. There D should be even that much stronger. Of course, there that thug playing QB who no one can stand.

Did you see where Cam was arguing for a late hit out of bounds this weekend? (Weak, but hey....you argue it)  He claims the ref, Ed Hockuli (sp?) told him he wasn't old enough to get that call.

Saw that bit didnt read the article. Kind of funny actually. It would seem Cam is a likable guy around the league. Hopefully he won't get on the bad side of all the refs now by going public with that. On the other hand, if the Ref was fo real, then he just confirmed suspicions on how referees operate.

Not sure ive ever seen a pro sports franchise with that many key players out at once.

Romo
Dez
Leary
McClain
Scandrick
Mincey
Gregory
Hardy
Witten has been at 50% all year

Good thing for them is they can tread water in the NFC East for a couple of more weeks until they get most of those guys back. And theyll still probably be in first or only a game out of first worst case scenario. I think they get most all of them back after their bye week in 3 weeks.  And Romo back Week 11.

Imagine the Falcons without Wholio, Ryan, Matthews, and 3-4 defenders on D.

My guess is Weeden is done in Dallas after signing Matt Cassell. Cassell is no world beater but hes light years better than Weeden and should be serviceable til teh Romoz returns.

Panthers better trade for some damn offensive weapons.

They remind me of the 1997 Auburn team.  One player on offense.  Dameyune.

Leading rusher on that team not named Dameyune had 277 yards.  For the year.
Eight different receivers had at least 100 yards receiving.  None over 1000 (and Craig threw for 3400).

That team had a defense (Takeo) that held the opposition to 19 points per game.

And it came within a point of knocking off Peyton and UT in the SEC-CG.  Finished 10-3.  A mystifying 20-0 loss to Mississippi State (I was there, Craig threw a pick six on a sideline route from about the MSU 10 and never recovered) was all that kept AU out of national title discussions.

I feel like I'm watching the same movie with the Panthers.  Cam is amazing but has no help.  Takeo Kuechly is a force and will almost singlehandedly keep games close.  Cam needs one more OL, a decent WR threat and a servicable RB.  And they make a deal for defense.

And that old, over the hill, Steve Smith Sr. is barely getting around in the NFL today. That was a good decision.

They get 162 games and half the year. If 3/4 of the top 10-12 players were out for 80 of those games, then you have a valid point.

Cammie Cam takes the no-name Panthers out to Seattle and overcomes a 9 point 4th quarter deficit to go 5-0.  Granted, the Seasquawks haven't exactly been killing it this year but pretty impressive anytime you can go out there and win.  Cam's not tearing it up by any means, but he's taking what little talent they've got and doing what it takes to win.

Meanwhile, the Broncos are still undefeated with Manning already throwing 10 interceptions and only 7 TD's. I watched a good bit of that game yesterday and he finally looks like what everyone thought he would 3-4 years ago.  I have a ton of man-love for Peyton, on and off the field.  Always loved watching him play and he's done some really funny commercials, SNL etc.  But, I hope this is it for him.

Did anyone notice that Ben Roethlisberger wasn't playing yesterday?  Did something happen to him?

Saw the 4th qtr of the Panthers/Seahawks. Very nice comeback also considering Seattle had their backs against the wall with 3 4th qtr losses as of late. Also, some Seattle fan pulled the hotel fire alarm wee early in the morning where the Panthers were staying. Some damn good hitting in this game.

Ben has been hurt the last several weeks with Vick playing. He got hurt yesterday. Landry Jones comes in and wins the game. I think Ben is expected to be out for another week.

#1 Rushing team in the NFL but 29th in passing.  Sitting at 4th in PPG.  Give them one other decent receiver and better play calling and they'd be unstoppable.  The D is always going to be top 10.

Cam accounts for nearly 30% of their rushing yards, has the most rushing TDs on the team and 40% of his runs result in a first down (leads the NFL in this particular stat).

So, yeah, it pretty much is all Cam.

Agree that a decent receiving option beyond Olsen would make this team unstoppable.  Shame they lost Smith...and Benjamin.

I don't disagree with any of that.  Just cut 50% or 136/215th's of the in-game show-boating.

Speaking of Cam, Mike & Mike just had Chris Carter on and they were talking extensively about him and how they run the offense through him.  They said Olsen is a great tight end but after that, every single WR would be a 3rd or 4th option on every other team.  I watched a good bit of the first half last night but didn't see the comparison graphic they were also talking about. They said his height is 6'5".  So, they showed him next to JJ Watt. (Same height)  His weight is 250 and they showed him next to DeMarcus Ware.  He ran a 4.59 40.  Put him next to Lavion (sp?) Bell who ran a 4.6.  I think they said he has a 35" vertical and had him beside Megatron who has a 34" vertical.

I was completely pulling for the Camthers.  But a little credit due.  Best defensive game the Falcons played all season.  They pressured the hell out of Cam and deflected numerous balls.  Wasn't play calling on the Panthers part.  ATL's DB's had em' covered like a Jimmy Hat, especially down the stretch.

I was hoping CAP would step up and show out. Then the falcoons would have to respect the run.

But alas...

Kind of glad they lost honestly, now they can focus on the postseason rather than the streak.

There is a reason only one team has ever done it in the history of the NFL.

Kind of agree, but would love for Cam to break that record.

My theories as to why they lost:

1) Shula puckered up with the record on the line and resorted to his historically dumbshitted self; or

2) Shula didn't want to break daddy Shula's record and the loss was essentially devoid of any playoff/championship implications for the Panthers.

Basically, I have one theory: Mike Shula sucks balls.

Nope, Shula is never going to be mistaken for Mike Leach or Kliff Dinglebury.  But, he's been able to get in a rhythm as long as he's got Stewart grinding it out. Now, I want to see CAP do well but he's just not the same back in that particular offense as Stewart is.  He can pound and pound then play action with JS in there.  With their defense, that plan works.

Sunday was as much about the Falcons D playing lights out as it was a lack of play calling on Shula's part.  Plus, ATL got things going on offense and kept it out of Cam's hands.

Just rolled back in from the Cheaters/Falcons game.  Had no implications on anything other than pride.  Place was still pretty much packed.  ATL just skulltrucked themselves and gave away the game.  Last 3 drives in a tie game ended in a lost fumble...a dumbass unsportsmanlike penalty that took them out of go-ahead field goal range....and with the game still tied and the ball on about their own 25 with 2:30 to go, Ryan throws it straight to a Cheater on the first pass.  N.O. runs the clock down to 3 seconds and kicks a chip shot game winner.

Pretty awesome structure going up right next door to the Dome.  Still not sure why a new stadium is necessary.  Been to a ton of games over the years at the Georgia Dome and that's always been a great place to watch a game and easy to get around.

Agreed. Totally different team that the Panthers beat earlier in the season. I'm of the opinion if the Panthers beat the Seahawks, they will win the Super Bowl. Seahawks look real good.

Funny thing is, I thought the exact same thing about the Cardinals a week ago.   One of those two will eventually show up in Charlotte probably.

So here's what I understand as I understand my understanding of the playoffs.

The Panthers will play either:

The Redskins if they beat the Packers and the Vikings beat the Seahawks
The Packers if they beat the Redskins and the Vikings beat the Seahawks
The Seahawks if they beat the Vikings regardless of the Packers - Redskins outcome

Worst case scenario for Carolina is Seahawks followed by Cardinals.

It's 50 years.  Don't agree with the anomaly part.  It's National...Football...League. Most games turn on two or three plays.  The Panthers had gotten by, by the skin of their teeth (As if teeth have skin) on numerous occasions.  With the exception of the earlier Carolina loss, the Falcons had lost just about every game they'd lost by one or two stupid plays

When the Panthers and Falcons are both clicking optimally, I think the score is closer to the game 3-4 weeks ago than the one last week. Thazz all Iz sayin.

Falcons suck.  Fuck the Falcons.  They are terrible.  Arthur Blank can dab his moldy ass off at home next week. Whoolio can make ugly ass Gremlin faces into his own mirror and not on my TV, starting yesterday about 3 pm.

Carolina lost to those shit eaters because new daddy Cam was distracted and tired.  His baby was born three days before the game, last gameplan goes in Thursday and he was out that day and the next.  He is the heart and soul of that team and when he wasn't himself, the offense fizzled.  He was clearly off that day.  Had other things on his mind.  They should have scored 35-40 points and beat that rag tag bunch of turd burglars 38-20.

Philly.....Who the Cowboys beat, who are 4-12 and suck donkey bollocks, who got demolished by.....The Panthers. All about teh matchups. Using the "so and so beat so and so, and that team beat that team, so we should beat that team easy" logic can be circular at best sometimes. Look at UGA, Fla and Mizzou last year. Or Auburn, Ole Miss, and Memphis this year. Or Aggie, Auburn and Arky. Would be nice if it were that simple.

Cam had one off week this year (had no idea he had a kid before that game until a few days ago) and the Durdee Byrds were the lucky recepients of it. Nothing more, nothing less. He couldn't have cared less, and the Falkuhns couldn't have cared more.

Besides, your ass should be on the Camwagon anyway. I'm done with you! We are officially DONE. You hear that? Broke up...finished....el finito. I mean, I don't like you very much right now.

I developed Chronic Lyricosis at age 15. It affects 4 out of every 10 people and while there's hope, we're not to a cure yet.  People with moderate to severe cases of CL endure embarrassing ridicule from their peers and others on a daily bassist; however, researchers are working on ways to help cope with the hurtful cheers and mocking.

Will you help?  Your gift of $18.00 a month will go to buy much-needed noise blocking earphones for those suffering from CL.  Some people might say it doesn't make a difference if we're naked or not.  It does, because people with moderate to severe CL are living on a prayer.  Please call today, won't you?

Bumpity Bump Bump...since we're talking a little NFL.

Let's just say, it's good to be an average at best starting QB in the NFL.

Sam Never Done Shit Bradford just re-upped with the Eagles for 2 years and $36 million smackeroos with $22 mil of that guaranteed.  But...

Joe Flacco put ink on a 3 year contract paying him $66 million with a..cough cough hack....$40 million signing bonus.  Yes, I know Flacco has had his Super Bowl moments but overall, would you rather have him over Cam?  Discount Double-Check? Numerous others?

And the thing I'm hearing is that this contract somehow saved the Ravens some cap space.  Johnny Cochran on a cracker, how much money actually flows through the NFL?
