Title: 2015 College Football Thread
Post by: Snaggletiger on September 03, 2015, 10:47:04 PM
Putcher general observations, gripes, kudos, bitches here....

Opening night.  First game was UNC vs. USCe.  Thought UNC should have killed them.  Mistake after mistake. QB is experienced but made high school miscues.  Refs sucked.  Horrible.  Bottom line...Sakerlina is not a factor at all.

TCU vs. Minnesota.  First half similar to the previous game mentioned.  If the Golden Loafers could get out of their own way...great game. Still tight at half.

Gawt damn, Vanderbilt sucks.

Let the games begin.

It's obvious that Western Kentucky would go 1-7 in the SEC.

As hyped as I was for the season to begin, tonight was a boatload of meh to me.  Family Guy reruns would have been better than this Vandy game.

Utes look pretty good. TCU starting slowly with starters out.
Minnesota has more talent than Michigan. Could be a really long season for Harbaugh.

Vandy can field a decent scout team defense for the rest of the league...little else.

Heard that Nebraska suspended 5 players for the BYU game.  Included Jonathon Rose.  He was supposed to be a starting DB for the Cornholers.  Hell, even Chizik told Rose not to come back.

Apparently, he's misunderstood.

Pretty decent game going on between Baylor and SMU. 28-21 Baylor with 4 mins to go in the 1st half.

Yes these raging Baptist's are unstoppable and soooo fast BUT:

Got to have the old separate running storyline which is familiar to certain programs.
Baylor and Briles are going to have to defend their actions throughout the season.

What is that storyline? Seems like I remember some accusations but don't recall what you're referring to.

I thought Baylor looked pretty good for a first game but don't know that they look built to handle an SEC schedule. But obviously they don't have to. Advantage goes to teams like Baylor, Oregon and tOsu in that regard. Not saying all of these are like this but sometimes it seems like they face one tough team.

Win that one and stay healthy, then face a banged up SEC team in the playoff.

LSS as I understand it...DLineman faced rape charges at Boise, Petersen the then HC booted kid from team, NOT FROM SCHOOL. Transferred to Baylor. Briles claims Petersen didn't present the kid as a potential problem but what ensued is a coed/athlete being brutally raped (ok, allegedly) by the kid.
It's a case of responsibility/or lack, who owned up- what and when they knew it.

VT has the most putrid colors in the history of foosballz.  However, I have to say that entrance was badass.  The slow walk to the stadium from the field house. The players can see and hear the crowd, which was rocking.  Then some Metallica to hit the field.

So, who will the other two teams be in the playoffs?  Obviously, Derrick Henry will be one.  tOSU will be another.  Look at what the Buckeyes are facing.  How they'll make it though these first three unscathed is beyond me:

Hawaii
Northern Illinois
Western Michigan

But then they get into the meat of their schedule:

Indiana (Hoosiers had to stop an unexplicable 2 point conversion against Southern Illinois to win)
Maryland
Penn State (Oooohhh....and Temple sacks Hackenberg again)
Rutgers

After that murderer's row, if they're not too beat up, they come down the stretch with:

Minnesota
Illinois
Michigan State
Michigan

I'm not making fun of opening with VT.  That's a legit OOC game for any team in the nation.  And granted, it's not tOSU's fault the rest of their league is teh major suxxors.  But damn it...name one game remaining on their schedule besides MSU that they won't legitimately be a double digit favorite in.
Title: Re: 2015 College Football Thread
Post by: Godfather on September 08, 2015, 12:49:12 PM
When they showed Ohio State's schedule last night it really pissed me off, then Homer Herbstreit gets on to defend it.  "Saying if they make it through that schedule with no losses they definitely deserve to be in the playoff".  Listen Ohio State looks impressive and they are a great team, but the fact that they play no competition will have them in great shape for when they get to the playoffs.

The fact that they have that schedule though is a joke.

Looking at the AP rankings and schedule for the top 5....

1. Ohio state plays 1 ranked team (Michigan State #5)
2. TCU plays 2 ranked teams (Oklahoma #19, Baylor #4)
3. Bama plays 7 ranked teams (Wisconsin #20, Ole Miss #17, Georgia #9, Arkansas #18, Tennessee #25, LSU #14, Auburn #6)
4. Baylor plays 2 ranked teams (Oklahoma #19, TCU #2)
5. Michigan State plays 2 ranked teams (#7 Oregon, #1 Ohio State)

Out of the top 5, bama plays the same number of ranked teams as the other four teams COMBINED.....

My impression so far:

Haven't we seen this movie before?

Texas A&M looks like world beaters with an impressive showing in an opening game against a team that was ranked but had questions.

Alabama goes to a neutral site and caveman bludgeons some team with its unstoppable rushing attack and the best defense since 1992.

Auburn sputters in its opener against a not-quite-ready-for-top-25 team that turns out to be a little better than people expected it to be. (Granted, this one can either be a win WSU or a loss GT, Clemson, USC...)

MSU farts around with some mid major but thinks it set the world on fire.

The rest of the SEC dinkles with high school teams and proclaims themselves contenders based on garbage stats.

Notre Dame is back in the Final Four mix after playing a game. Doesn't matter who, what or where. They played and didn't lose.

Oregon is fast.

Ohio State eats cupcakes.  Every game on their schedule is like AU vs. Chattanooga.

The only surprise ending was perhaps Ole Miss, but not even sure that's a big twist.  The totality of the beatdown delivered was a little surprising but they WERE playing UT Martin. And the Warhawks opened 2015 by gagging up 59 points to a terrible Kentucky team.  Got the impression the Rebs were running up the score. And being dicks about it.

Don't sleep on Chattanooga. UTMartin was hugelu .overrated. Ohio State has an easier road now than they did in the 60s and 70s under Woody. Ole Piss has lacked a run game since Freeze arrived. Turd schedule is the toughest of all-time. Jury out on Chavous defense. I just hope A&M surprises everyone else but our team.

Well yeah....Michigan and Penn State were actually pretty good back then. With those Schembechler and Paterno guys running the show. Their names sound familiar. They may have been ok coaches.

In case you're watching, the Cincy/Memphis game is pretty good. Hayden Moore is a kid right here from Clay/Chalkville playing for Tubberville

If we were watching we would know the case, and if we weren't... Ahhh, I can't make the Raising Arizona quote work.

Pretty good? Yeah, I would say if you like scoring. Over 10 lead changes. Moore kid from Clay comes in to fill in for injured Gunner Kiel (used to be at ND and actually committed to LSU)--freshman Moore lit Memphis up for approx. 557 yds and 4 or 5 TD's. read the stats, amazing for a freshman.

Granted it was Memphis but kid looks sharp. Makes me wonder how Lash and Gus missed him.

Hate that Tubs lost a close one. Cincy or Mem would beat the AU of the first 3 games. They don't have much of a d either.

Eddie Gran (our RB coach from Tubs era) is Cincy OC. Their O appears to be Gus'. I'm sleepy as a result but it was a great game.

Caught some of the game, I saw were Cinnci had run like 50 plays somewhere into the 3rd Qtr. That's more that Tubs ran some games here.

It was kind of strange seeing Tubbs and Gran running this type of offense along with having almost no defense.

Moore was overlooked by everyone but Cincy. He had other offers but no D1 offers really. There is a kid at Clay now that is damn good too but fits more of the running QB type. I don't think he has the accuracy as Moore but he isn't too shabby. Point is, he only has one offer and that is to Mizzou. None from the in-state schools. All this kid has done is win beat top ranked teams from around the country, win the 6A championship of which will probably do the same this year, and lead the team to a #9 national ranking.

Even though our beloved AU is going through some suckage right now....and all our players are disgruntled and transferring out...this season, outside of AU, is pretty damn entertaining so far.  Can't recall one that's changed so much from week to week as far as perceptions go.

tOSU is clearly #1 and they play no-freakin'-body until the end of the year.  Sleep walk through the season.  After Auburn-esque performances against N. Illinois and Indiana, are they still #1?  They had 3 Heisman winning QB's.  Week 6?  They've got QB issues.  Big ones.

Bama is clearly a playoff team.  All they need is a "game manager" at QB.  Enter Ole Miss.  Exit Ole Miss.  We suck. We need a QB.  We've got no secondary.  Kiffin must go.  The dynasty is over.  Enter the unwashed in Athens.  Exit the unwashed.  Coker for Heisman.  The dynasty continues.  Joey Freshwater for President in 2016.

Oregon is just so fast.  Utah is just so much faster.  What was that score?  About 59-3?  Exit Oregon stage left.

The Black Bears slap the tahd around for the second year in a row.  Clearly the class of the West.  Playoffs baby. Chad Kelley got swag, bitch.  We here to sta....CHOMP!!!!  Damn it, we're still Ole Miss.

Biggest game in the last 20 years for Arizona. Game Day on campus.  Get loud.  Bring on the Bruins.  Enter UCLA.  Exit Arizona stage right.  UCLA is the darling of college football.  Hot shot freshman QB. We told you the PAC 15 was loaded.  They runnin' the table.  Enter the Sun Devils. Exit UCLA stage left.

Florida is 1-0.  Yeah, but we looked shitty.  Muschamp destroyed the program.  Hey..2-0.  Whatever, we squeaked by. Damn you, Will.  3-0.  Got by Kentucky on the road.  Yeah, but it's Kentucky.  We have no offensive linemen.  Curse you Muschamp.  Took down Rocky Top for a 4-0 record.  They should have blown us out.  They had us down and Butch Jones skull fucked his own team.  Ole Miss will skull fuck us.  Thanks Will.  Enter Ole Miss.  Exit Ole Miss.  We are LOOOOOAADED baby.  5 deep at every position including long snapper.  McUlweiney for Corch of the Year.

Seriously can't wait to see what it looks like in 4-5 more weeks.

People need to really have their heads examined with the "Muschamp/Florida analysis". He "destroyed" Florida in the same way Dye "destroyed" Auburn in 91 and 92. WM built a good foundation at UF. He had a major clean up job ahead of him from what Meyer left. Think near Chizik level dysfunction in the lockerroom the last year of Meyer. Will cleaned that up and built a solid foundation. McElwain is great with QBs and thats all UF was missing last year. Enter McElwain this year who makes Grier serviceable..and this is what you see now. WM was really only a good QB away from having a decent team last year and the year before.

One thing about it. I lose just like I win. With humility.

I have way too much class than to get on here and boast when I'm on top of the world, which is the norm. But when those valleys come and I rassle with those angels, I keep it to myself.

I'm the strong silent type. Sure, I can kick anyone's ass on here but I control my smack talk.

You won't see me making fun of the plethora of loosers.

That's just me though. You guys make fun all you want.

Michigan's punter going full on tard ranks right up there with the biggest fluke/choke losses evah.  I turned to another game thinking, "Good, they got dis". Saw the score scroll across with MSU winning.

Wutchu talkin' bout Willis?

I keep waiting for 4-Net to have a game where he looks human.  180 yards against what looks like a damn good defense to me.  Florida didn't shy away from him at all.  They will flat out skroke you.  But, he truly is a beast with moves and plenty of speed. I guess the one "negative" thing I can point to is I noticed in the AU game, he never stayed in for more the 3 plays at a time.  I chalked that up to it being 175 degrees on the field. But I noticed he always does it.  Last night, he'd get a couple of carries and head to the sideline and take a knee like he had just carried it 12 straight times.  I guess if he's averaging about 200 a game...I can live with it.  Take a blow big guy.
