Clemson's DC Brent Venables is a name that's starting to pop up. He'd be a huge hire, slightly less than Muschamp, but huge hire non the less, IMO.

Yup, was at Oklahoma and I don't give a flying fuck about "disciples", I like seeing results...Clemson ran a similar offense to Auburn while they led the Country in total defense.

2012 - 65th total defense
(Brent Venables hired)
2013 - 25th total defense
2014 - 1st total defense
He'd be a very nice consolation prize if Muschamp decides go to South Carolina or back to the NFL.

I like the jail break defense...I wish we would've ran that this season. We couldn't stop offenses from scoring, so why not blitz the fuck outta the QB and make him panic.

I'm hearing that some are disappointed that I haven't been able to divulge more information regarding what is going on behind the scenes in our defensive coordinator search. I can understand the frustration but let me explain that I didn't get into a position of influence within AU athletics by having loose lips.
There may be some things that I can share in the very near future. In the meantime, watch what you say about WT very closely and remember that I can always have any of you killed.

I talked with one of my sources this a.m. and there is a strong possibility that there will be a press conference within the next 48 hrs with your new d Cor in attendance! It's not 100% but strong. If it's not within the next 48, then he assured me that it would be announced before spring practice starts.

Yep. Pretty obvious his primary focus is finding another HC gig to prove everyone wrong. And he's obviously in a great financial position so he doesn't need to jump at the first thing that looks good.
We all want it fast but I don't think Gus is in any hurry for this. There may be other good options available after the bowl season that we aren't aware of.
Although Champ would bring a buzz and help with recruiting, I don't think a 1 and done is what we need. That's why I'm more prone to be o.k. with some of the under the radar guys. We need coaching up more than anything. The AU program sells itself.

This is only the third most important position to the entire athletic department by impact. We need to get this right. Go get THE guy like we went after Pearl. We have had mediocre...we are a nine win team with mediocre. That's what Pelini was and he is being looked at by Youngstown St. (ESPN)
