Does this list from Jen accurately depict the only recruits that should be of any suspense?

Treon Harris, four-star ATH/QB
Braden Smith
Andrew Williams, four-star DE
Rashaan Evans, five-star LB
Davon Godchaux, four-star DE
So far we missed on Harris, and Smith & Williams both pushed their announcements back?

OK. There were 25 open spots on the board. Do the early enrollees fill any of those spots? Or do we have all 25?

Dontavius Russell looks like a consensus 4* from all the sites I checked.  What makes me giddy as a school girl is how this staff is addressing what has sucked for several years now.  Defense!!!  Done a great job at getting elite talent at the skill positions with White, Roc and Williams.  But defense is what this program needs to compete for championships every year.

I imagine next year, they'll start restocking across the offensive front.  Speaking of...has Braden Smith announced.  I sooooo want that guy.  Not in a gay way.  Okay maybe just once.

For Mitchell, they have him listed as "HB". Is that for H-back or half-back? Is half-back even used anymore?

H back. The fact that you know what a half back is means you are obsolete.

H back. The fact that you know what a half back is means you are obsolete.

I thought about that as I typed it. That term was only used by old guys when I was young. But I didn't realize that H-back was an official position now. That one is relatively new to football. I thought they signed these guys as TEs and then used them as an H-back.

I'm upset that we haven't signed any middle guards, wing backs, or defensive halfbacks in years now.  What are the coaches thinking?

The thing with Russell is that he was one of those that was not ranked high coming into his senior season but then his momma started feeding him the Flinstones and he turned into a man child.  AU had not even been on him until way late in the process.

He played against good talent as well.

I'm not upset we did not get him. I am more upset that a former AU player that did not live up to his billing used this opportunity to stick it to the man and encourage his son to go to the enemy. I could understand UCLA or elsewhere. But this was a jab at AU from Alan, not the boy.

But whatever, he will not beat us, or he will be begging to transfer to us. It seems to be the trend here lately.

Treon Harris, four-star ATH/QB Auburn Florida
Braden Smith, four-star OG TCU Auburn
Andrew Williams, four-star DE Auburn ???
Rashaan Evans, five-star LB Auburn Alabama
Davon Godchaux, four-star DE LSU

So we're 1 for 4 right now.

We're 0 for 2 on those expected to come to Auburn.

If we lose Williams it will be 1 for 5 and 0 for 3. Relative failure. At best, about what we expected and no "Fireworks".

Not only that, but the gaping vaginas that have pulled this in the past are now getting beat by AU (Yeldon, Foster, Calloway, etc..)

With Malzahn, you don't have to have all 5 stars. With Saban, you do. We see how his team is built. We can and will beat it on a consistent basis.

I don't think today is anywhere close to fail.  Harris was a FSU commit when he visited and we got in on him late.  He wanted/wants to play QB and we told him he could have a shot but were recruiting him as an athlete.   Was going to be hard to flip him when UF also wanted him and had been recruiting him all along.  Godchild was a long shot as well.  He was LSU all the way until the past few days and him going to Ole Miss is a shock.  So much so that his mom, to my knowledge, still hasn't signed his NLI.

Evans was a 50/50.  I think the dad pushed this.  If not, then why invite the bammer coaches to a party on the day of our last visit.  Our "official" visit took place before the party and bammer got the last visit instead.  Was it just me or did momma not look real happy?  This is still a damn good class.  Top 10.  With our coaches, I will take top 10 all day long.

Here's where I'm at. Dothan.

We just added elite talent at QB, RB, WR and a beast on the offensive line.  In a word, we racked up.  Look at last year and Malzahn's history.  This club can and will light up the scoreboard on anyone and everyone.  They played two of the most dominant defenses in the nation last year at the end of the season and went up and down the field.  Statistically, Mizzou was pretty damn good too and you saw how that turned out.  We are just now starting to stockpile talent on offense and look what they were able to do in 2013.  We're basically just getting it cranked up on offense.

The only thing missing from making it to Atlanta year in and year out is a stout defense.  Put even a little bit better D on the field and no "miracle" needed against Georgia.  No 109 yard run back necessary against the turds.  Game would have been in hand.  This staff recognizes this.  They signed one of the best linebackers in the nation and tons of 4* talent at every damn position.  Our D-line is sick.  Who will be the odd men out in the 11-12 man rotation.  While we' can't call this LB crew one of the better ones in the league right now, they finally have numbers, good size and a ton of experience. A lot of returning players in the defensive back field and how many 4* players did they just add?

I'm telling you, improve this defense and there's not one team in the country I have a problem lining up against and kicking that ass.
Title: Re: Official 2014 NSD Thread
Post by: CCTAU on February 05, 2014, 01:05:27 PM
One of the things I really like about this staff is that they do not recruit a lot of "athletes".

The previous staff thought you could get an athlete and you could teach him a position. While that is true of a few athletes, it does not always translate well. We had a WR corps full of athletes, but no WRs. It showed.

This staff recruits for position. I'm sure they think of a secondary option for each player. But mostly, they know what they are getting.

I find that to be an extremely positive shift.

Of course, its a given we will see D Williams catching passes and likely starting but he's a JUCO guy, so I'm expecting he and Moncrief the safety to be in the rotation.

Not trying to be a negative Nancy, but I'm not ready to raise a victory flag over today, WarTim.

Very average class. Sitting at #8 on Scout, Rivals, & ESPN. I'm not mad or upset, or think this is "bad", but I don't think it's outstanding either.

Sixth in the SEC.

That's about what we do every year.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Mower Starz is the be-all, end-all. We're filling needs, which of course I'd prefer to crootin' championships.

Just hard to get solid wood over what was expected. You always hope for good surprises on signing day. To get more than just what you knew you were getting. Braden Smith is the only guy (pending Andrew Williams's commit) that can qualify. And we missed on four others, including a couple where we were considered the favorites.

You see what LSU is doing today? That's the excitement that'd be nice.

I guess I expected too much from the "New Day".

I totally agree with you on this.  FUCK bama!  It's like it's a part of their recruiting plan each year.

And I'm sick and fucking tired of Bama flipping an AU commit on signing day, and NEVER the reverse.

Always a 5* big hullaballoo hat-switch ESPN live telecast type of player.

I thought we were done with that shit.

They think it still burns us and tarnishes our year when they do it.  It was tough with Cyrus and Yeldon.  Now?  Whatever.  We all saw it coming.

I take solace in the fact that one day, their group of assholes will experience the decline of their program.  I do believe it has started already, but if it hasn't, one day, Saban will retire or die of old age or his schtick will quit working.  Then the Evanses and Fosters and Koundjiros will get to sit back and reflect on their decision to participate in being an asshole on a declining program instead of being a contributor at a program that doesn't need undefeated seasons every year to feel content

Further, I sincerely believe that Saban is scrambling in his office right now and will do so until next season, and if I am right, he will continue to scramble until he decides to retire.  Johnny Manziel lit up his defense.  Gus Malzahn lit up his defense.  Oklahoma lit up his defense.

He's been figured out.  He hired Lane Kiffin to create a competitive offense because he knows his defense is getting punched in the mouth.  I do not believe for one second that his dictator-type personality will protect him from falling just like Tuberville.  He thinks about his defense first and foremost, and it's going to cost him.

Rivals has us 8th.  Just checked their site and it shows 22 commits with 3 five star guys and10 four stars.  It has not been updated to include Andrew Williams and for some reason, has Dontavius Russell listed as committed but not signed.  We still have room for 2-3 more players.

You ain't got no problem, Chazz. Gus is on the motherfucker. Go back in there, chill the fuck out and wait for the Roc who should be coming directly.

About what we usually do?  Not really.  During Tuberville's time we were usually middle of the pack.  A few splashes (Carnell Williams, Ben Obamanu some defensive guys here and there) but it wasn't a "win the stars battle or bust" thing.  And we did pretty okay.

Chizik (and Malzahn) realized that we had to do that star battle thing a little bit and we started getting consistent top tens.  Done pretty okay with what we have.

I'm not unhappy at all.  We got pretty much every legitimate target on our board except for that douche-eating, lying sack of yak scat who was playing us the whole time for his father's perverted amusement.

What you've got to understand is that the star thing is rigged.  I've explained all that before as to how I know for absolute sure it's a scam, but I promise you it is.  Stars are designed to benefit certain programs. Kids are bumped up or down to satisfy the people who buy the magazines and pay the subscriptions.

If X program "looks" at a recruit that's worth a star.  We're NEVER going to win that.  Ever.  It's not designed for us to do so.  They create a self-fulfilling prophecy so that people who flock to the sites are satisfied because the schools they support are the ones that get ratings bumps for "looking" at players.

Look at the class signed by A&M.  Would you REALLY trade the kids we have for the ones they got?  Or Tennessee?  Got 431 kids on the board so they can claim recruiting momentum.   Would you swap a single player Auburn signed for one of theirs?  I wouldn't.

So..... again...

SEC has a rule on oversigning, not ACC. NCAA rule is you can't have more than 85 on scholarship.

UT can sign 31 because of those 31...14 are early enrollees meaning they had that room under the 85 and those kids were JUCO types or graduated from school early, these are the kids that signed back in mid January.  They have 18 from today, just like we do.  We had 5 early enrollees.

So here is how the SEC fared with their overall rankings:

1.  Bama
4.  LSU
5.  Auburn
6.  Texas A&M
7.  Tennessee
8.  UGA
9.  Florida
13.  Ole Miss
22.  Kentucky
23.  South Carolina
30.  Arkansas   :haha:
37.  Mississippi St   :haha:
39.  Mizzou
44.  Vandy

I am surprised to see Missouri so low after winning the East.  It's also a testament to our conference that our bottom dweller (sorry VV) is ranked in the top 50.

Braden Wood Smith.. Confidence.  He has it.

from teh . I am a gay twerker that has no balls!!!!  I also have no idea how to use the quote function to post stories, so I annoy the piss out of others.  I like male genatalia in and around my mouth. of the al

The biggest Signing Day addition of Auburn's 2014 recruiting class chose the Tigers based on one premise.

Braden Smith saw opportunity where others didn't.

Only the second offensive lineman to commit to an Auburn team that lost only one starter off of the nation's most dominant unit in 2013, Smith, the nation's top remaining uncommitted offensive lineman heading into National Signing Day, thinks he can contribute quickly under the tutelage of offensive line coach J.B. Grimes.

"The reason I chose Auburn was the great opportunity there," Smith said. "Now that Greg Robinson left for the NFL, it provides a great opportunity for me to come in and get better, get a chance to play early."

Smith, at 6-foot-6, 290 pounds, is already incredibly strong, a recruit who made a splash after a YouTube video was posted of him bench-pressing 515 pounds three times, could play either tackle or guard at Auburn. According to 247Sports, Smith is the No. 3 guard prospect in the country.

And Smith saw something in Auburn's style of play in a hurry-up, no-huddle offensive scheme that ran the ball 71.9 percent of the time last year.

A powerful road-grader, Smith liked what he saw out of Auburn's offense after also considering Texas A&M and TCU.

"Of course, the style of offense they run is very similar to ours," Smith said. "I think I'll pick it up pretty fast."

Smith's recruitment started late in the process.

Auburn didn't really start recruiting Smith, an Under Armour All-America participant, until December, but the Tigers secured an official visit and built a relationship with Smith, whose sister throws the shot put at TCU.

"I love all the coaches there, they're top-of-the-line people, very genuine," Smith said.

Smith will have a tough time cracking the lineup in 2013. Four starters return -- only Robinson is gone -- and the Tigers have been grooming two possible tackles in former right tackle Patrick Miller and Robinson's backup, Shon Coleman, a player Grimes thinks has great potential.

On the inside, though, Auburn will lose both center Reese Dismukes and right guard Chad Slade after next season, opening up spots on the interior.

And Smith knows he's given himself a challenge by deciding to face SEC defensive linemen.

"Just going to the SEC, you've got to get ready for all the quick people and all the toughness," Smith said. "It's just a grind in the SEC. You're going against the best of the best."

I like this kid, he's a full growed man, strong as a bull, and from that video of him in the weight room I would guess he's at 15% body fat or less meaning (to me) he's not an Andre Smith slug but will be able to keep up with the HUNH.

Plus I read an article where his favorite hobby is gardening which he does in whiskey barrels in his backyard.  Which is awesome.

Quote
“I reseeded our backyard last fall and told him he wasn’t going to be able to grow anything back there anymore,” David said. “He was kind of depressed about that, so we came up with the idea to cut some whiskey barrels from Home Depot in half and planted them all over the backyard.”

Braden grows watermelons, pumpkins and cantaloupe.

“And he’s actually had quite a bit of success with that,” David said. “He put them out where they’d get good sun, and he tends to them every day.”

Making certain that his mom, Jane, remembered to water his plants was Braden’s primary concern during the 700-mile trek to work out for Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban.

“He called every day about that — ‘Did you water? You didn’t water too much, did you?’” David said. “I have no idea where it came from. One day, he just started a garden, but it requires discipline, and that’s right up his alley. He’s very meticulous and organized.”

So, I wanted to compile a roster of current players (post-graduation/NFL declaration) and new signees.  Attached is the spreadsheet with the names, color-coded by class.

The thing that jumps out at me is that our Junior class is MIA...there is almost no quality contribution from that class with the exception of the WRs.   Check out the Safety position...what a drought.

Yeah.  That wasn't a "well, shit we had a 50/50 shot" look.

Same look Momma had too.

Same look Momma had too.

Momma had that "Oh shit. There goes the business" look!

Do you think now that ANY athlete will be "encouraged" to stay in any properties managed by Evans Realty?

i have no sympathy for them. You don't shit where you eat.

Gus and company should have walked when that dancing at the birthday party stuff happened. "We don't audition for business, son. Business auditions for us. Enjoy your time in West Vance."

Same look Momma had too.

Not once did she look happy until Reese Davis cracked a joke about the 80th B'day party and then she smiled.  When he put that hat on she looked at the floor and bit her bottom lip.  Not the look of someone who was excited.

I am firmly convinced that this was nothing more than butthurt daddy seeing his chance to get back at mean ole nasty AU for not letting him start.  He used his kid as a pawn to help him set this up.  He was just as smug looking as it gets up there when he announced.

2015 is going to be rough. Need to make a mark this year and have another solid recruiting class focusing on specific needs.

2016 & beyond look bright though.

Snowed in Magnolia, TX this morning too.  Kids freaked out thinking they were getting the day off again.  Ive seen beignets with more powdered sugar on them than we had snow on the roof.  So no - no snow day.

But it is kind of crazy.

I think we are going to end up with about an inch or so and it will stay until late tomorrow afternoon as we don't get above freezing till then. Just last Friday was playing golf in shorts and shirt and this Friday Ice age or global warming, or Ice warming or whatever they are calling it.
