Title: Corch Blakeney Speaks
Post by: Snaggletiger on September 10, 2013, 09:29:19 AM
In an interview with Donald Heath on savannahnow.kum, Blakeney was asked about his program with relation to AU/UA and the fact that there hasn't been a game between Troy and either school.  I hate "coach speak".  I'm tired of sports clichés.  Just say what you mean and don't beat around the bush.  Anyway, try to figure out what he means...

Blakeney isn’t among the Troy fans who envision the day when the Trojans are competitive with an Alabama or Auburn. He doesn’t see the school’s future entwined with the instate powers.

Neither Alabama nor Auburn has played Troy in football since the Trojans’ move to FBS.

“I quit worrying about Auburn and Alabama. They’re cowards and you can print that,” he said. “Troy people would love to play them, but they’re chicken. I’m not talking about the (Alabama or Auburn) coaches and the players. I’m talking about the ones who wear the panties who make decisions.”

He should have kept that down home....cuz.

Seriously though, he's an idiot. He quit worrying about them yet his next 2 sentences purely show he worries about it.

There has been a couple of seasons that Troy could have beaten AU and UA since Blakeney has been there. The earth wouldn't stop spinning. I think it would be a sell out game and hopefully we'd curb stomp them and they could go back to Troy. Still, I'd love to see it.

Meh...I like Blakeney, but he is out of line. What does he benefit from saying nothing? Nothing. What does he benefit from calling out Auburn and Alabama? A lot.

There is no reason for Troy to play Auburn or Alabama. It would give credibility to Troy, even with an ass whipping, where Troy doesn't deserve the credibility.

Georgia playing GSU is completely different that Auburn or Alabama playing Troy. GSU is a tiny football program. Troy is a smaller D1 school that is trying to compete with the big boys. Why give them any more advantage to compete?

You would certainly know more about that situation than most.  I respect your opinion but I just can't see Troy gaining any advantage from winning or losing this game.  Srsly, no disrespect but Troy will pretty much always be Troy, regardless if they pull a big upset of Auburn or Alabama or any other big name school.  They've always taken on all comers, from Nebraska to Miami to LSU and on and on.  Have beaten several of them and should have won many more, including Tennessee and Miss. State last year.  Blew those games.

Even with a win over AU or UA, they'll still have a 35,000 seat stadium that is rarely if ever filled, no matter who the opponent.  4* and 5* players aren't going to suddenly choose Troy over us because of an upset win and I can't see boosters deciding to give multi-millions to the program because of it either.  Troy will most likely always have a budget that's 1/5th or 22.7% of Auburn's or Alabama's, if that much.

However, what you would see at JHS is a packed house as opposed to the maybe 70K that showed up the past two Saturdays.  I think there would be a huge in-state buzz over the game (at least the first one) and the City of Auburn would benefit from at least 15-20K more fans being on campus for the game.

This is the primary reason that I would like to see it. It would be BETTER for AU than a lot of the other teams that we schedule. I don't see Troy as a recruiting threat as a result of this game any more than they are now.

I went to both schools but I'm more of a fan of AU. It would be good for Troy too, so of course I think that's good.

I'm simply an advocate of playing in state schools. It makes good business sense.

And like what he said or not, I believe Blakeney was speaking the truth.

I think he was too. As evidenced by some in this thread who think it would give Troy credibility. Did AU just give ASU credibility?

And if so, why would you give and out of state school credibility and not one of your own?

Are they not all STATE funded schools?

It makes no sense. There is no reason to give a home and home, but fill up the stadium on a off week instead of bringing in some lame ass opponent from Blue Mountain State....

Someone needs to be the Fighting Possums.  Caught one last night that had been coming in our garage and eating the cat food and bathing in the water bowl.  Kind of a neat freak, that possum.  Anyway, I put a cage out for him, came out this morning and voila, one caged possum.  I've had many a round with those varmints the past few years and they are some ugly, long-toothed, evil bastages.

Played Billy the Exterminator at 6:00 this morning and let the little fella' loose about 5 miles from my house.

Run away, little fella'.  Live out your happy little possum life....until you cross the road and go splatitatat.  Just can't pop one off in a cage.  Too much of a softy for that.  However, a couple of years back, I had one that apparently had been taking PGH (Possum Growth Hormone) and he started coming in the garage.  When I would come out, he would just look up from the bowl of cat food and go..."Whatchu lookin' at?"

Nuthin'.  Carry on.

Came out one night and he was at the bottom of the steps and he wasn't moving.  I thought about my .38 but since we were in an enclosed garage, that thought turned to a headline in the next morning's paper.  "Local attorney shoots self in ass while trying to kill rogue possum."  Grabbed the first thing handy, a long pole with a paint roller on the end.  Bashed his head in and he started bleeding from the eye.  Hissed at me.  It was on from that point.  Took about 20 whacks with blood flying everywhere before it was over.

I was battered and bruised but eventually got away from the beating and called Animal Control.

I think this really sort of proves what I was trying to say all along.  No, Troy didn't win, but ASU hardly blew them off the field. Basically the same level.

ASU isn't in Auburn's league.  Wasn't this year, wouldn't have been last year.  That's a team AU 19999 times out of 20000.  Same with Troy.

But if you want me to say I was wrong?  I will be waiting.

I was surprised to see a QB throw for over 11,000 yards off his back foot.

On another note, the backup QB looks like he will be pretty exciting.

And the ground looked yellow from all of the flags.

Dude.

For the last time. it was not about WHO Auburn played. It was the positive attitude and the fierce fight and the upbeat, fun loving, we got this demeanor and the overall appearance of TEAM that we all noticed. All of those things were missing last year. Last year's team might have lost to ASU had we played them midseason not because ASU is good but because we were beaten before we even set foot on the field.

I know you know damn good and well what the others were trying to say. Take your curmudgeon who is arguing purely for the sake of argument and get off my lawn.

Asu won last year too so the next one wouldn't exactly be the rubber match. How's about we just say asu isn't a terrible team. Not good but not terrible. And let's also note that the original points being made in the other thread had NOTHING to do with asu but moreso Auburn.

Uh when any sane person suggests a 2 out of 3, they don't suggest it span a 3 year period.

That's usually how ANNUAL matchups are played in college football.

No sane person has ever suggested two teams play 3 times in one year either but apparently you have it in mind. "2 out of 3" is also common language spoken by those who lose a matchup.

Would be easier for you and Gene Simmons to just admit you are wrong. Asu beat Troy. Y'all said they wouldn't. End of story.

Bammers would suggest playing teams as many times in a season as it took them to win.  See LSU 2011.

I'm never wrong.  Sometimes you are confused about my rightness, but I'm never wrong.  I won that right with my Tony and Gene reactions.

You said they would lose. They won. Only in an alternative universe would you say you were right about that. We might as well just say the sky is black at high noon on a sunny day. I'll give you two credit, you go down shooting til the end.

Moving on from the axiom that Kaos & CCTAU are dead, dead, dead wrong.

Still-ranked-24th-in-the-polls TCU is now 1-2. Texas Tech put an asswhooping on them that the 20-10 score doesn't do justice.

Good for LSU that they also beat them by 10 points.

I'm trying to be humble around these corndogs, but they are confident that they will pound our dicks in the dirt next weekend.

If we get past MSU, and especially if we do so by more than a touchdown?

We beat LSU soundly. Mark it.

Even if we don't, you can still be right

Ok as long as we don't have to play them in a best of three series.

Troy blew that game with turnovers.  Cory Robinson played surprisingly bad.  Every single time he got any pressure, he went semi and sometimes full tard.  His back up is dynamic and was all of last year.  Hindsight is 41/34 and I think they win big if they let the back up play more.  But how do you sit Robinson after what he did the first two games?

Oh, and Troy's D is 2012 AU horrible.

Isn't Troy's defense supposed to be 2012 AU horrible against the defending Sun Belt champs?

after all...

Was kinda thinking asu blew a big lead they had in the first quarter 21-7. They should have made it 28-7 and didn't.

But to what you said, wouldn't that mean Troy sucks? If they blow a game that badly an their D is that awful. Not a good team. With that said, both D's were non existent last night.

How the hell am I dead wrong? A 2 out of 3 match up would not be fun to watch? It was a hypothetical.

kinda like me saying if you could read, you wouldn't be such a dumbass. And then you telling me I am dead wrong.

I never said Troy would win. i was just poking the bear.
