I stayed up waaay too late watching this last night even after a long evening meeting and a long drive home. Lots of great speeches on Day 2 but this one stands out to me...
Mayor Mia Love:

Didn't watch much but was flipping channels and came across MSNBC and they had a panel of people...have no idea who they were. Somebody, Rachel Maddog or some such. They were ripping every word that came out of every speakers mouth as if the GOP Convention were a Taliban meeting where they were plotting a new string of terrorist attacks. Hateful bastages
-
I got a little uneasy when Santorum took the stage. I was afraid he would get all preacher man on us. He actually held back on the moral stuff some but I did think his tone was pretty decent. He was aggressive. Christie was great, even if toned down. Ann Romney was terrific. That's one nice looking woman to be 65.
But I thought Mia Love and Artur Davis stole the show. I think it's great they are showcasing people that you normally would think would be in the Obama camp (stereotypes and all) and showing how disgusted these people are with him. Very smart play. I also like how they are hammering into the ground Obama's gaffe of You Didn't Build That. I think the ONE will regret ever saying that before its all over (if he doesn't already).
I really could do without Condi, McCain, Pawlenty or Huckabee tonight. I am interested however in seeing Rand Paul, Jindal and Paul Ryan. Also not sure why Jeb Bush is speaking tomorrow night and why in the hell they are playing tribute movies to the Bushes tonight??? I do look fwd to hearing Newt speak tomorrow though.
The media is going to run with that - between the Bush tribute movies, Jeb and Condi.

Maddow and Matthews. I turned over as well to see what they were saying and of course as I expected, they were both playing down anything good the GOP was saying and even playing the race card as it pertains to welfare.

Artur Davis and Anne Romney were terrific; you are right. Santorum did make me uneasy and I'm not looking forward to McCain , or Huckabee   . Pawlenty...: yawn :
Jeb Bush is still very politically popular in Florida from what I understand so I'm not surprised that he is speaking especially in a must-win state; his speech ought to be great and Condi's speech should be good too.
I too would like to see them tone down the Bush tributes but that's to be expected. We'll be seeing tributes to The Pharaoh at DNC conventions for millennial to come.

Welcome to the wonderful world of politics/media/bullshittery.
If I had enough shit in my colon to cover the chests of 500,000+ politicians and pundits, I'd be handing out Cleveland Steamers like an evangelist handing out pamphlets in New Orleans.

I just want to exorcise the ghosts of Bush and never look back. I don't want him, anyone with his name or Cheney's, or anyone in that admin involved right now. The country still has a bad view of him and his crew (fairly or not) and this would do nothing but get the liberal media in a frenzy.
I can see it now from Maddow: "And as you can clearly see from this tribute Chris, the RNC still embraces George W Bush and his ideology which MOST leading economists insist is what got us into this economic mess. Right when you think Mitt Romney might have a shred of difference in his and GWB's economy philosophy, the RNC has promptly reminded us that the Bush years are still alive and well....and would continue to be if Romney is elected."

Understand that VV, but this was as bad as I have seen in a while. It was blatant and false. Even for MSNBC.

I just read where Jindal will NOT be there tonight because of tending to Isaac back home. Instead a Mystery Guest will appear. Popular opinion and sources indicate it to be Clint Eastwood. The 2nd most popular opinion on who it is? Tim Tebow. This could be interesting.

I don't know how I missed this speech by Senate Candidate Ted Cruz of Texas; great speech too; apparently no teleprompter or lectern or notes...

I absolutely love that woman. She has said that "Hard work and education will take you further than any government program can promise."
I saw where her wiki page had been defaced after her speech. If the left hates her, then she is doing something right.

Stay classy LIBS! A black woman who worked hard and doesn't rely on the govt and is proud of that fact? An uncle tom I tell ya!!

Thanks to the Tea Party, Ted Cruz beat out a sitting Lt Gov for the Senate nomination. Did not care for David Dewhurst, but not sure how I feel about Cruz. Reserving judgment for now.

Cruz has made a few statements I don't agree with 100% but I think he is worlds better than who he beat. I think his head is in the right place. Real smart guy.

TH, it appears the mystery guest will be TONIGHT. I thought that person was replacing Jindal last night. And word is, it is Eastwood. At least thats what the twatterz and teh bookfaces are saying.
Huckabee's speech was suprisingly good. Especially the piece about not caring what religion Mitt Romney practices but caring more about what direction he takes the country. I thought that was a good line for him. Pawlenty - boring as usual although he did have some good zingers.
Condi - wow. Did I say I didn't want her to speak? So....she didn't really channel Bush in her speech. But instead talked about succeeding as a poor black girl growing up in Central Alabama, despite all odds. Her speech seemed heartfelt and I admire her story. Susana Martinez had very much the same story but from a Latino point of view with her parents coming from Mexico. Good stories.
Paul Ryan - knocked it out of the park IMHO. He aimed right at Obama and the economy, hard numbers and all. While also remaining personable and likable. I liked the angle with his mother still being his role model. I thought that was a good moment.

Yes, I saw that too; thought that the special guest was last night. I'm actually hoping it's not Clint Eastwood; he's a little too liberal for my enthusiasm.
Paul Ryan was terrific! What else can we say; he took the political fight right to the Dems without having an "angry" attitude. I'm more enthusiastic than ever about him. I too really appreciated the tact that he took regarding his Mom; what a great story. I was standing-up cheering at the tv last night as if I was watching a college hoops game. I am very proud to have him on our ticket.
Condi was amazing, you Alabamians really have someone who you should be damn proud of in her! Between her and Paul Ryan they were the smartest two people in the room last night.
Gov. Martinez, Gov. Fortuno, Sen. Rand Paul, and, yes, reluctantly Mike Huckabee were ALL outstanding too. They all make me proud to be an unapologetic, card-carrying Republican!
-

If you look for a candidate with whom you agree with 100% of every statement, position, and issue you will be looking for a long, long time.
-

I wanted Condi on the ticket. If she was, this election would be a foregone conclusion.
-

I doubt it. The blacklash would be deafening.
It would be played up by the media as nothing but a ploy. Condi would never get the recognition she deserves.
Now when Ryan runs and she is the VP, then it might be better.
-

But we all know good and well that the media would have ran with that, tying her back to Bush and using the tired old "the same failed policies that got us into this mess" line. I like her just fine, but the media would have tried to crush her. Sad really.

GH, they're already doing that anyway; get ready to hear that again, and again, and again at the Dem Convention next week. It doesn't matter who we run that is the operating talking point "the Republicans want to take us back to the policies that got us in this mess...blah, blah, blah..." That's all they've got along with "Romney's a Mormon!" and Ryan wants to kill seasoned citizens.
As a sidebar, I don't think they are stupid enough to go with "Four more years!" as a convention motto but you never know.
-
So now I'm hearing that the mystery guest will be the Clint Eastwood.
:getoff:

A lib friend put on Facebook something about Eastwood sealing it for Obama.
What the hell happened?

Ummmm, if thats what they want to believe.
His piece was very minor and sattire in nature. Oh, what libs (who GUSH over Jon Stewart, Bill Maher and Colbert) don't like sattire now? Funny how they don't like it when it's done to their boy. It's ok when the aforementioned 3 do it to the GOP though.
Eastwood basically put an empty chair beside his podium and pretended it was Obama sitting there. He had a conversation with him, improvising the whole convo if you will. I thought it was funny. But after that he got into a more serious tone talking about how we the people still own this country and how we have the right to fire the President if he is not doing the job right.

I've been reading more about it. There's a definitely a widespread effort to make Eastwood out to be a senile, cranky old man that blabbered on unintelligently. Also, no one, according to the reports, understood what was going on with his speech.

But of course the same people LOVED him when he did a Superbowl commercial that defended the auto bailouts. He was great, a strong patriotic voice! Now, that he is at the RNC? He's a senile old man who rambled on into Romney's timeslot.

Well. If you were talking to an empty chair and no one could see the chair, the audio might give that impression. That is why the left's satirists are on TV.

I thought it was pretty funny. Actually laughed out loud on numerous occasions

Determined to neuter the grassroots and head off future insurgencies like those of Barry Goldwater, Ronald Reagan, and Ron Paul, Republican party bosses have pulled off an audacious coup, high-handedly turning the GOP into a much more top-down, centralized party.

Oh I got it alright, spend money we don't have, start wars to piss off the infidels, control elections in other countries and our own, etc. Sounds like fucking dictatorship to me. When the GOP establishment kicked out the Ron Paul delegates, that did it for me. I'm sorry I cannot get the stench of that out of my nostrils. Our country is doomed.

Well, well, well, well. I'm here to tell you that life as you knew it has ended. You all may as well go into town tonight. You may as well laugh and make fools out of yourselves. Rub your pathetic little peckers against your honies or stick it in a knothole in the fence but whatever it is, get rid of it. Because at 0600 tomorrow your ass is mine.

The real reason the GOP is headed in the dumper is Wednesday night, the Convention was beaten out badly in ratings by Honey Boo Boo Child.

I was expecting that to be way worse based on the reactions I'd heard. It started off great, but then there were times where he was mumbling and rambling and not making much sense, particularly right when he started the "I've got Obama here in this chair" bit.
"What do you want me to tell Romney? I can't do that. He can't do that to himself. You're gettin as bad as Biden!"
-

Bullshit.
This "Power Grab" as you Paulbots call it as designed to get the rabid, lunatic, hell-bent-for-leather, social conservatives like Michelle Bachmann and Phyllis Schlafly and the anti-war, pro-pot, whiner Paulbots to acquiesce to the decision that Romney and Ryan are the candidates. I sympathize with many of the social positions but their messaging turns-off so many people, especially independent-minded voters, that it's destructive and simply not helpful. And, quite frankly, we don't have the time to worry about social-issues with the economy and jobs being the biggest and most urgent problems with everybody now.
I'm sorry that you don't like it and I'm sorry for you that your candidate did not win but at the end of the day you've got to win a LOT of Primaries and Ron Paul simply could not do it and he's proven that he can't win a national election either. The Libertarian message simply doesn't resonate for whatever reason despite what they delude themselves with by saying otherwise, loudly. Perhaps, if they'd actually run a sane candidate it might help; Dr. Paul's foreign policy is simply off the reservation.
Now, you have a choice this Fall to not vote, vote for Romney, vote for Obama, vote for Johnson, vote Constitutional, vote Green Party, vote Socialist Party, or, I suppose that you could still write-in Ron Paul but he isn't going to win.
The Republican Party candidate is Mitt Romney and this may come as a bit of a shock to you but with 47 seats in the US Senate, 242 seats in the US House, 30 Governorships, 1100 (of 1900) state Upper House seats, and 3,400 (of 5,400) state Lower House seats the Republican Party is not finished either.

I still have mixed feelings about Clint Eastwood's appearance. He had some great lines. It was unique. And odd. I do like the metaphor of an empty chair for the Pharaoh because that's exactly what we have, an empty suit, an empty chair, a man who is AWOL on leadership and derelict in his duty. I know that image really got under the skin of the left because they are so critical of Eastwood today.
-
My favorite moment of the entire evening, possibly even the entire convention, was during Mitt Romney's speech last night when he said (and I am paraphrasing a little here), "President Obama promised to begin to slow the rise of the oceans. And to heal the planet. My promise is to help you and your family." Looking right in the camera... That moment will be remembered.
I have wrestled and hesitated about posting this thought: I truly appreciated the personal stories about Romney that were told last night; he seems to be a man of good character and good conscience and, yes, good faith and a positive attitude. He seems to have surrounded himself with people of good character and that speaks a great deal about a man. I don't know Romney personally but I know men just like him whom I see every week and whom I respect beyond words for the remarkable, good, quiet work that they do; not wanting or expecting recognition nor craving attention; and the help that they give to the fatherless and the widows and their fellow man, etc.
We've heard no such stories about The ONE. What we do know, as a contrast, The Pharaoh has surrounded himself with the likes of Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, Rod Blagojevich, Bernadine Dohrn, Saul Alinsky, Tony Rezko, Derrick Bell, Rashid Khalidi, Frank Marshall Davis, the Weather Underground, etc., etc., etc.; which says something about him too.
-
My favorite quote was by Rubio. Paraphrasing, he said Obama's ideas are the ideas "people came to this country to get away from."

And mine was Paul Ryan's about the college graduates living at home, looking up at the fading Obama posters.

So what's their plan to create jobs since that's a private sector function? More government jobs? More tax cuts for corporations (some of which pay little to no taxes)? I hate taxes as much as the next guy, but even during the Bush years there was little to no REAL economic growth (absent gov spending). As a matter of fact the economy shrank. What sectors besides defense and the medical field will see real growth? Even China's economy is contracting. I'm aware of economic cycles created by central banks.
Advanced economies are slowing down, and China is slowing even faster, the OECD warned on Monday on the basis of leading indicators.
