Title: I Predict.....Ron Paul Will....
Post by: Snaggletiger on February 23, 2012, 12:18:40 PM
be the next GOP frontrunner.  Why not?  Everyone else has to this point.  When the campaign first cranked up, Herman Cain was the next big thing.  Then, all sorts of allegations of previous sexual improprieties surfaced. Funny how that wasn't an issue for anyone until he was leading the polls.  Another reason why I despise politics.  Then, Mitt Romney took control of the polls and early primaries. What kind of name is Mitt, anyway?  Oh well, we already have a Barack so I guess it doesn't matter.  Looked like he would now steamroll his way to the nomination.  But wait, suddenly the Newt was the hot ticket and had all the momentum.  So they head out west and inexplicably, Santorum, who hasn't done JACK SQUAT to this point, vaults into the lead.  So....obviously, it's Paul's turn to shock the world..for a few days.

I fear none of them have what it takes to unite the party or the country for that matter.  At least not enough to keep the One from dragging us through another 4 years of this.

Romney is too liberal.
Newt has history and is questionable on some stances.
Santorum is a social isuues proponents wet dream.
Paul has some issues with foreign policy.

Nope, none of them can unite the party.

The state-by-state numbers just don't look good for him.  He's not going to win Arizona (running 4th); he's prolly not going to win Michigan (running 3rd); he's running a distant 4th in Ohio; and he's running a distant 4th in Georgia.  They are apparently still counting the ballots in Maine after three weeks; he's going to take some delegates there.  And he'll take some delegates in states that assign them proportionally (Arizona is not one of them; it's winner-take-all like Florida).

The only polling where he shows strength is national polling against The Pharaoh.

Current delegate counts (with 1144 needed to win the nomination outright):

Romney: 99
Santorum: 47
Gingrich: 32
Paul: 20

No worries; I did want to point out the numbers for those who do support him.

I think that Ron Paul will be a major force at the Republican Convention; the Establishment leaders will try to ignore him and his supporters but, I think, they are going to have to recognize that he does have some ideas and supporters that the party needs.

Rumor Mill says that he will threaten to go third party if they Republicans don't start pushing for some of his policies on economics and other domestic issues.  Which might not be a bad thing.  Would ruin Rand if he does this.   Unless Rand distances himself from his old man.  One thing that cracks me up about the True Blue Paul supporters, they talk about how good Rand is going to be and how much they support him, but what they don't realize is that he is not his dad.

I'll never support Ron Paul until he quits blaming the US for why Arabs have been crazy in that region for 1400 years.

So, for realz, can the Repubs put up anybody that can take back the Whitehouse?

Honestly, I don't think so.  Not until 2016 anyways.  The best we can hope for is they gain a majority control of the senate and house, if they can't get the WH.

Actually, I think Paul, Gingrich or Santorum could beat the One. He will wipe the floor with Romney, BECAUSE Romney has the least amount of aces in the hole to use against him. They have been on the same side of a lot of issues. Mitt is just against most of them now because it is convenient. That's my big issue with him - he picks a side on convenience. He was a liberal new england democrat until 1994, when he switched sides so he could run against Teddy. The guy just picks whatever side is gonna get him votes at the time.

I don't think that it's completely hopeless, yet.  It depends on the swing states the way I see it; Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, North Carolina, Missouri, and Wisconsin.  Most of the other states are predictable and The ONE could loose this election if he looses those states (especially the first five in my list).  Elections are not won based on the national, popular vote; they are won state-by-state.  You have to be careful looking at the national polls; they are not accurate.

Worst case scenario; I do think that the Republicans will regain control of the Senate and will keep control of the House.

And the chief problem with Romney is that his candidacy takes off of the table one of the most important and polarizing issues...repealing Obama-care!  He says that is going to be his first order of business but I just don't trust him on that particular issue.

Romney can't be trusted on any issue.  I can't believe some of the things this guy says sometimes.  Look at his latest stunt...  http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203918304577239092290860440.html?mod=googlenews_wsj (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203918304577239092290860440.html?mod=googlenews_wsj)

Really?  Would he really do that?  I don't believe it.

Hard to trust a guy to repeal it when his model was the blueprint for it. And that's not just a talking point. He and his advisors were consulted by the WH around a dozen times when they were putting together Obamacare. They built it based on Romneycare - fact.

I have less of a problem believing that as I do believing the sincerity of The Pharaoh's Corporate Tax Cut proposal.

Can you imagine The Pharaoh and Mitt Romney even discussing this issue in a presidential debate?  The Pharaoh would actually be to the right of Mitt's plan.

You are correct. Mitt's mandate was more strict. He required it for employers with 10+ people. The One's is for 50+ I believe.
