This band is from Athens, Alabama.
They have been touring all over Europe, and will be performing at Hang Out Fest in Orange Beach this summer.
Really retro stuff. This chick can sing.
Here's two songs they performed on Conan.

Not bad at all. Actually, in "I Aint the Shame", the vocals really resemble Prince. Not really a Prince fan but I have to admit the fucker can sing.

Love, Love, Love the Alabama Shakes. Used to catch them a lot at Maria Bonitas on the square in Athens. Great Mexican food, good drink and good music. Then they got popular and started branching out.
Aren't they touring with the Drive-By Truckers a lot? Or at least here recently? Hoping they both make it to Handy Fest this year so we can go watch them.

Great sound. I hear some good southern rock and gospel influence in their music. Reminds me of the The Band performing with the Staples Family Singers.
-
I will check them out on ITunes today.
If Au2000 is right in his assumption with The Band and Mavis Staple, then thats a good thing.

Saw them before. Good music. Hold on is a great title track.
