So Gene Chizik is in Atlanta today for a Chick-fil-A Bowl press conference. Moments before the presser itself, he spoke with reporters and offered this short statement:
“I’m not going to go into any of the details. He will not participate in the bowl game. When you see him back in an Auburn jersey you will know he’s done everything we’ve asked him to do.”
He also said this:
“(Dyer) won’t be practicing for the bowl game. He won’t be playing in the bowl game. If he does the things we ask him to do, you’ll see him back in an Auburn uniform. If he doesn’t, you won’t.”

I think Chiz was clear in his presser yesterday. Dyer will wear an Auburn uniform again WHEN he takes the steps necessary to make that happen. I understand it to mean he has to do certain things, and if he doesn't he won't be back. Pretty simple stuff.

Although I really hate that there is the possibility of losing Dyer but there is no one player bigger than the team. Chizik did the right thing and I commend him for it. This is also a good little nugget for the rest of the team to witness as well.

ATLANTA -- Coach Gene Chizik says All-SEC running back Mike Dyer will have to meet certain criteria if he plans to play at Auburn again.
"When you see him back in an Auburn jersey, you know he's done everything we've asked him to do," Chizik said at a Chick-fil-A Bowl press gathering Monday. Sunday, Chizik suspended his top running back indefinitely for violations of undisclosed team rules. Monday, he specifically said Dyer won't play against Virginia on New Year's Eve.
He did discuss it, and said Dyer could return.

but I just got it from the Horse's Mouth, that M. Dyer has decided to transfer to The University of Arkansas. Furthermore, he said that he had an altercation with several Auburn players that got him in trouble, and it had nothing to do with drugs what so ever. Of course, he is back in Arkansas just trying the get things back in order in his life, so he can move on. Was very up beat, and said that Coach Malzahn didn't want to deal with the attitudes of the players at Auburn anymore. And that it was time for him to come home, when the opprtunity came open at A-State. Again, he seemed very upbeat and matter of factly about what he said. This is the truth.

So you are saying that he is willing to sit out two years? Kind of hard to believe. I can also show you some posts from Woopig and the Arky Rivals board when he was being recruiting that said it was known from a source that "Dyer would decommit from Auburn and commit to Coach BMFP on signing day". Message boards are just full of 'facts' from 'sources'. Not saying this can't be true, but I would rather believe it when I see it.

The age and kids thing was a response to someone telling him to let his mommie have her laptop back or something similar.
Personally, it wouldn't surprise me if the kid said it. But there's a big difference between talking about it and actually doing it, especially once someone starts explaining the transfer rules to him. Plus, who knows whether BMFP holds a grudge over his original recruitment?

I (along with others who have cited it) assume its the compounding of SEC/NCAA rules. The SEC bylaw is an additional stipulation on top of the already existing NCAA bylaw (referenced in the SEC bylaw) which requires a sit out year.

It was my understanding that he only has to sit out one year, but if he doesn't get a release from Auburn, he has to pay his own way the year he sits out. I believe this is what happened a few years ago when a B-ball player transferred from Miss St. to Ark. Also, when Matt Hall transferred from Ark to Ole Miss.

Thats the way the SEC bylaw reads. I was only assuming that since it is commonly referenced that SEC to SEC is 2 years, that the SEC bylaw was an additional stipulation. The NCAA requires a 1 year sit out. The SEC requires a 1 year sit out if it is SEC to SEC Xfer. Why would the SEC have a bylaw for a one year sit out if the NCAA bylaw already covered that circumstance? Thats why I read as "in addition to". I don't know how Auburn or the SEC interprets his "suspension" but I am guessing he is still on scholarship at Auburn and is considered a "student athlete" at this time which is what I think these bylaws would apply to.
I'm pretty sure that the Grant in Aid contracts at SEC schools have a clause that says they cannot transfer within the SEC without a Waiver from the current institution.

Thats the way the SEC bylaw reads. I was only assuming that since it is commonly referenced that SEC to SEC is 2 years, that the SEC bylaw was an additional stipulation. The NCAA requires a 1 year sit out. The SEC requires a 1 year sit out if it is SEC to SEC Xfer. Why would the SEC have a bylaw for a one year sit out if the NCAA bylaw already covered that circumstance? Thats why I read as "in addition to". It doesn't say "in addition to". Say a Graduate (like the doofus from Oregon) wanted to transfer within the SEC and NCAA bylaws allowed it. This SEC bylaw would still mean he couldn't. There have been players transfer within the SEC, none sate out 2 years that I'm aware of.

The 2 years thing has been referenced by a lot of folks. Some of them I respect, others I don't.
Maybe its implied, who knows. Either way, I think he's much more likely to go to Arky State than Arky.

First I've heard of any 2 year SEC rule, but that doesn't mean it's not the case. Still, it doesn't say "in addition to".
Until he's actually not an Auburn student anymore, it's all speculation anyway.

Hey everyone.
We have received word that RB Mike Dyer has voiced (to Auburn) his desire to transfer to Arkansas State. I can’t confirm where the sophomore tailback is located or if he has enrolled at ASU, but he has told at least two Auburn officials that he’s planning to transfer.
Does that mean he’ll actually transfer? That’s unclear.
Coach Gene Chizik last week re-affirmed his stance that Dyer, who was temporarily removed from the team on Dec. 11 for an undisclosed violation, has the option of returning to the Tigers. That option remains available.
If Dyer chooses to enroll at Arkansas State, he’ll be forced to sit out the 2012 season before regaining eligibility in 2013. Considering that he’s an All-SEC player right now, I’m surprised that he would go that route. Former RB Brandon Jacobs left Auburn after the 2003 season and spent 2004 at Division I-AA Southern Illinois, which didn’t require Jacobs to sit out a year.
Jacobs was a fourth-round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft.

True, unless he would have had to sit out most if not all of the year anyway. This way would make it look better for him.

Unless he applies for a hardship stating that he needs to be closer to home b/c of a sick family member. If not that, then he sits a year. I also have a hard time believing that the NCAA will grant that waiver with him being currently suspended, that would open the flood gates to others and it would be used as a safety net.

I'm too lazy to look for it again, but I recently saw a chart of the suspensions at each SEC school for drug related transgressions...and I believe Auburn showed a 50% of competition suspension rate for a second offense.

Auburn has granted sophomore running back Mike Dyer a conditional release from his scholarship, AuburnUndercover.com reported Thursday night.
The website reported head coach Gene Chizik granted Dyer a release that would allow him to transfer only to a specific set of schools, including Arkansas State, where former Tigers offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn has recently taken over as head coach.
Dyer was suspended indefinitely from the Tigers due to an unspecified violation of team rules Dec. 11 and missed their 43-24 win over Virginia in the Chick-fil-A Bowl last Saturday.
Chizik said at the time of Dyer's suspension that he could return to play at Auburn when -- and if -- he did "the things we feel like he needs to get back at Auburn and get back in an Auburn uniform."
As recently as last Friday, Chizik said Dyer's status with the team had not changed.
"Michael Dyer's status has not changed," Chizik said. "If it does, I'll let you know."
Attempts to reach an Auburn representative by the Opelika-Auburn News were unsuccessful Thursday night.
Dyer broke Bo Jackson's Auburn record for rushing yards by a freshman with 1,093 last season and was an All-SEC first-team selection this year, running for 1,242 yards and 10 scores.
He is only the fifth back in Auburn history to run for 1,000 yards or more in consecutive seasons.
If Dyer transfers to another FBS school, he'll have to sit out next year before playing unless he seeks -- and is granted -- an eligibility waiver.
