Title: For the guitar and music enthusiasts.....
Post by: GH2001 on November 29, 2011, 10:11:06 AM
10 years ago today, we lost an underrated legend in music. I still hold to this day that the guy was the most musically talented in the 4 some. Today, my guitar gently weeps in memory.

George Harrison: City marks 10 years since his death Flags will fly at half-mast for George Harrison on two public buildings in Liverpool

Two concerts will take place in Liverpool later to mark the 10th anniversary of George Harrison's death.

The lead guitarist of The Beatles, who also had a notable solo career, died aged 58 from cancer.

The concerts will take place at 14:00 GMT at St George's Hall, and at 20:00 GMT at The Cavern Club where the Fab Four often played.

Flags will also fly at half-mast at both the Liverpool City Hall and St George's Hall.

I remember about a year or two ago, Townhall explaining his username, so I will add this: I joined an Auburn board right after Harrison died in 2001. Don't even remember which one as those things were kind of in their infancy at the time. This event (the passing of the Beatle guitarist) was the freshest thing on my mind. I needed a login username and couldnt think of anything else worthwhile at the time. I've used that same username I came up with at random that day, on most boards I have signed up for since - including this one.

George Harrison 1943-2001

You mean your name isn't Gary Hinske and you didn't graduate in 2001?

Time Bandits was on HBO or Cinemax the other day, and I caught the last 30 minutes of it.  Totally forgot GH did the song Dream Away for the credits.

I've always said that of the 4 Beatles, he was the best at his instrument, and a very underrated guitarist, IMO.

Ya know, I never thought about it but yes, what a strange coincidence.

Well I will be a son of a bitch, I never caught that about your user name.

I think there are several on this board who don't like the Beatles, but what a talented band.  All were good musicians and there is no denying their influence.

And you never would have. Very random.

But I am a great admirer of Harrison musically much more than I am the Beatles as a whole. Some of their shit was brilliant. Complex lyrics, mutliple key changing, dynamic time sig experimenting, crazy tempos....and it worked. But some of their shit, not much, made me just scratch my head and go "WTF?". LSD and Acid will do that to musicians though. Harrison was the brains and sound behind much of their material but never really got his full due.

Drugs always make the music better.

What do Ethiopians and Yoko Ono have in common?

They both live off dead Beatles.
