So much for it being a fad. Kinect has evolved from a way to play with Elmo to a key tool in scientific research, delivering interactive presentations and managing your bank account. We've always called these non-standard uses of the device "Kinect Hacks" as people find more weird and wonderful ways to use it to their advantage. Unsurprisingly, Redmond has been paying attention and it's planning a commercial Kinect SDK. It's teaming up with developers to create the new software and has already received 200 applications from interested parties. It all kicks off early next year, and interested parties should be chatting up the company as we speak. Stuck for inspiration? We've got you covered, check out what other clever bods have already achieved with the technology in the video.
I love my PS3. I bought an XBox Kinect today. Will be opened on Christmas.
Let the competition begin.
There is no competition. You cant dance around on screen in front of a PS3.
Of course you can.
Of course you can.Does the facepaint throw off the Kinect?
Now that I have both PS3 and XBox running side by side I can compare.
Kinect = cool but not worth what you exchange in awesome.
PS3 is the undisputed champion for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is the PS Network is free. Compromised, but free.

I just bought an XBox, and Kaos says it is not as good. Now I have a tough decision to make, get rid of it or continue not caring.
Its the "champ" because you want it to be.
Your opinion here is worthless. PS3 is a dying dinosaur that is getting close to extinction. Just like Blackberry.
It's the champ because it is superior in nearly every way.
Graphics are better. VASTLY better. Interface is better. Much better. Add ons, games and videos are more easily accessible. I don't have to pay a fee to PS3 in order to avail myself of Hulu, Vudu, Netflix or any of the other services. Transactions are made in cash, not nebulous "PS3 Tokens" or some such shit. PS3 Avatars do not look like stupid Duplo People.
And finally. BluRay? Hello? Duh.
Extinct? Doubtful. X-Box is a HP Compaq bought off the shelf at Wal Mart. It even feels cheap PS3 is an Apple Netbook ordered from the Apple Store.
XBox is a Prius PS3 is a Lexus.
Both have their place but one is clearly better than the other.
FTR?

PS3 Wins

PS3 wins.
Oh no you di'int.
Honestly? You take away Blu Ray and there is no matchup that PS3 wins. Its the PS3's trump card. As far as Netflix, etc. I have an internet TV for those for free.
Look at sales figures and you'll see the trend. There is a vision for xbox. There are things on the horizon because of what Sani said - innovation from developers due to open source. What the hell is Sony planning? No one knows. Not much optimism IMHO.
What the hell is Apple planning? Who knows? It's all in secret and proprietary! Open source open schmource.PS3 leads in sales in Japan, and we know how smart they are...
I'll still take my iPhone over an android any day.
YOU have an Internet TV. What about all the poor bastards who don't? Hostage to X-Box Network fees? That's sad. I don't have to have one. I have a PS3. Thanks Sony for saving me those additional bucks.
Did you look at any of the comparisons I listed? Because PS3 trumped X in a number of categories. Blu Ray wasn't even considered in any of them and PS3 still won every challenge.
You like your little XBox. That's awesome. Some people like Nissan Sentras and Toyora Corollas and Kia Sorrentos, too.
Sales? Schmales. I bought an XBox. I also bought a Wii last year. But I already HAVE a PS3. Had it five or six years. It's been out there a while. Does that mean I'm abandoning PS3 or switching platforms? Do I have a need to buy another one? No. But your "sales" figures would have you believe as much. Saturation point is the key there. How many more can they sell? And you better check your stats, too. PS3 (in the only info I could find) outsells xBox world wide and is pretty much dead even in the US. Wii and Nintendo DS outsell both. Trend? Pfffffffffftttttt. Fuck no.
Game sales? Almost exactly even. Call of Duty MW3 sold 866,000 XBox units and 854,000 PS3 units. Trend? Pffffffffffffrttttttttttttttt. Fuck no.

And FWIW - you don't have to pay for Xbox Live to enjoy it. Only the gold membership.
Personally, it's not what I bought the system for.
I didn't know there was ghey porn on teh 360
Unfortunately, there's not.
However, I can play the Ballad of Gay Tony in GTAIV, build a same-sex family in Fable III, and watch half-naked men wrestle each other in a variety of UFC/MMA/wrestling games.
So while I don't get to see dick-asshole penetration, I can pretty much get everything else.
Unfortunately, there's not.Be honest, how many times has that been posted on TigersX? I'd put the under/over at 5.

Does the playstation network stream espn360?
When I was able to watch some of the pay per view Auburn games that were televised on ESPN 360 this year and last year on my Xbox, I thought the cost of gold just paid for itself.
I prefer it.
PS3 is just better overall as a console.
If free access to a Netflix or Hulu app gets your tractor cranked, then great for you. Personally, it's not what I bought the system for.
^^^THIS, doesn't equal....
THIS...
Your logic makes about as much sense as Bama's 14 National Titles and RWS wanting a non-goat partner.
Hippies prefer not to bathe with a nice bar of Irish Spring.
Greenies prefer a Prius to a Ferrari.
Obama prefers dumbass socialists to people with common sense.
RWS prefers male goats to female goats.
If yer so gol dern dense you didn't see all the previous explanation in other posts as to why it was better, thus the preference, I can't help ya.
Why buy four things when one will do it all for less? That's kind of ridiculous.
I can play multi-player games on the PS3. (Graphics and interface is better and easier, plus the controller is simpler to use).
I can talk to people if I want (I don't). I can send them messages if I want (I don't). I can get my netflix on. I can do my Hulu and my Vudu. I can play my BluRays and my regular DVDs. I can buy PS3 movies from the Network Store and use REAL MONEY not some nebulous points deal where you have no fucking clue what the cash value might be (and you don't have to do math). I can stream music. I can add music to my PS3 games if I want (and I do, nothing beats scoring a TD in NCAA Football and having the AU band crank up the right song). I can store pictures and video. I can connect to my laptop or computer and pull video and images from there. And THAT'S how quality porn is brought to the big screen, download and stream!
One box. Does it all. Why have a bunch of extraneous shit?
The Jar is right, it doesn't get ESPN360 but that's the only thing I'd use XBox for over PS3 unless I wanted to play Dance Revolution (I don't).
Because when I bought the Xbox 360, I was buying a gaming console. None of the apps were on there, nor were they on any other gaming console at that time.
I wasn't looking for an all-inclusive entertainment system so that I could stream episodes of the Power Puff Girls and then play Lego Hobbits afterward. I was looking for a gaming system with online gameplay.
Xbox Live has the Playstation Network beat hands down in virtually every category concerning online gameplay. For that alone I will pay the $5 a month for a gold membership; anything else that happens to be on the system is just additional awesomeness for me.
I find the Xbox controller easier to use. I think this is simply a matter of which console you started out with, and thus which controller you adapted to first.
You are aware that the Xbox does everything you just listed, right? Aside from the BluRay feature, of course.
It may do it, but it does it in a vastly more sucky manner. And you can't pay for anything. It's all in that silly ass "points" shit. It's worse than Mexican money. How much is a peso to a dollar? Depends on what you buy. You have to do some conversion shit. I find it annoying and ridiculous. On PS3 if I want a new Rocksmith song I know out the gate it's $1.99, it's not 480 BlipperChips (and who knows how much that is?)Hey, I resemble that.
Kinect? Silly ass shit you ask me. It's like that cool thing that's fun to do one time (in your case sex) but after that it sort of becomes meaningless and pointless.
Yeah, PS3 Move is a little goofy because you have to have the wands but when/if they come out with their version of Kinect it will beat the bleeding nutcracker out of Xbox. Move takes much less space, too. My kids want to play Move games I don't have to rearrange the entire room. Kinect games? Got to clear furniture out. Too much hassle.
I suppose this is all personal preference but with the two sitting in the same room and operating essentially side by side there really is no comparison. XBox is a kid's game. It treats everything like it's for a kid. PS3 is a man's tool.
This is definitely not an anti-MS thing on my part. Other than the iPhone I'm a MS guy. My shop is MS, my development is done for MS platforms first and foremost. Most of my guys are C#, SQL, .Net.

Unless its .Net 4 you aren't with the program. It can do some unreal shit. And of course you use SQL - its universal and used by everything, even IBM mainframe. I assume you run SQL Server 8.
I thought real shops used Oracle?
I thought real shops used Oracle?
Wait...hold on a min....I see what you did there......
On a serious note though, a few Ive worked in run both for different reasons. Oracle is def world class. It is also expensive as hell and harder to find the talent to run it. I just assumed K ran SQL Server 8 since he runs .net/100% MS. In a shop his size Oracle probably isn't very feasible. For Ford, Wal Mart, most regional banks, etc? Most def.
Ive also worked with Informix (with Linux apps) and IMS (with Mainframe apps). Informix and Oracle didnt play well together at one particular place I worked with.
Was gonna apologize for hijacking thread but I guess its technically on topic.
Totally agree with you, depends on the size of the client. Basically was trying to throw a tomato into the conversation.
I thought IMS went the way of the DoDo. Are there still shops that use it?
Buzz is a SAPI like this.

I didn't understand anything in the last 10 posts.

And yes, I agree - if anyone knows what a man's tool is, it's you. No wait, actually its VV.
For the record, Ive never had an issue with the points system. Its not that hard really. They use points for a reason - look it up. I aint gonna google it for your ass.

Was at one time Oracle certified. Last certification was 8i.
Points system is like Mexican money. I don't like.
And yeah. SQL 8. Currently .NET 3.5 and in the process of upgrading everything we have to 4. About the time we get that done they'll come out with 4.5.
I used to be able to code things and build things and make things and develop things. I used to be creative and able to see beyond the restrictions and come up with new ways to do things.
These days? I mostly just herd cats. I've become Mr. Carlson on WKRP.
I got out of coding as well a long time ago but still herd cats that do. I paid my dues with 80 hour weeks so I could tell them what to do instead of doing it. I love my work schedule now, so herding the cats doesn't bother me much.
Honestly speaking, .net 4 still sits on the .net 2 framework. Any of them are better than Cold Fusion. By a country mile.
BASIC on a Commodore 64 rapes everything else's face.
