Title: Like I said, wont get shot down but might crash - F15E

Luckily the pilot and weapons officer are both safe.  The pilot was picked up immediately by the Marines and the rear seat guy was picked up on the ground by rebel forces (lucky for him) and turned over to the US military.  Both had some injuries as should be expected, ejecting from a fighter is extremely violent.

From the pics it is obvious these guys hit with a good load of fuel on board for it to have burnt like this.  I haven't heard through my grapevine what happened, but I would guess a major hydraulic failure or a compressor fan in the engine going out to get them to eject at altitude like this.

Those guys are resourceful. A little gopher wood and that thing will be back in the air in no time.

I knew something like this was bound to happen too but I did think it would be a shoot-down incident.  I thank God the the pilot and weapons officer are safe, if not sound, after the ejection.

What a shame about this happening though; mechanical failure; probably some cheap, Chi-comm parts that were used...

Question. When one of our pilots eject, is the plane set up to fry all useful components?

Don't know.  I know that when our P3 went down in China in '01 an engineer that I worked with went over to oversee taking it apart and bringing it back to the states.  He said it was obvious that someone had gone through all the electronics, in some cases they didn't even bother hooking the equipment back up after pulling it out of the racks as it was just slid into the holes.  That was a big deal because that was an EP-3 which is designated for electronic surveillance.

I'm guessing that since this plane burned on landing there wouldn't be much of use.  The missiles and bombs wouldn't be of much use to anybody because they looked to be pretty standard from the pics.  F15's are pretty old technology (1985 for the F-15E like this one) but I'm sure that we wouldn't want people knowing exactly what our in air radar technology might be capable of.

The Chi-comms were probably validating what they already knew after stealing our tech during the Clinton regime years.

Fair enough postulation.  I don't trust any communists.
