All-American Westerman appears headed to Auburn

In an e-mail sent by Chandler Hamilton  senior  All-America tackle  Christian Westerman's father, Chris, tonight, he wrote, "There has been a significant recruiting update... and  we would like  to set up an announcement date for this  Friday, Jan. 21, at Hamilton High School to announce some breaking news on his college decision  to the media."

It appears Westerman will decommit from Texas and pledge to Auburn, especially after Texas lost out this week on hiring offensive line coach Jeff Grimes away from Auburn to replace retired Mac McWhorter, with whom Westerman and  his family had developed a special bond. Grimes decided to remain at Auburn.

Westerman, 6-foot-5, 295 pounds, rated by Rivals as the 18th top prospect in the  nation,  was scheduled to take his  official recruiting trip to Texas this weekend. That now appears canceled.

Grimes quickly hit it off with Westerman last month when Westerman took a recruiting trip to Auburn. During Auburn's stay here to prepare for the national  championship  game, Auburn coaches, including Grimes, visited Westerman at his home.

I was worried when Grimes went to Austin.  From what info I can get from  the skreets Rivals, Scout and other message boards is if we land this kid, thank Jeff Grimes, it was his haul.

Also read this morning that Thig and Grimes flew out to see Cyrus Kujomanchildbeast today.

I'm starting a rumor that Grimes went to Texas just to better scout their recruits so he could pick the best ones to come to Auburn as payback for stealing our coaches.  Who is with me?

Christian Westerman, one of nation's top linemen, says he'll sign with Auburn
Published: Friday, January 21, 2011, 11:11 AM
By Charles Goldberg/Auburn Bureau, The Birmingham News, Press-Register, and The Huntsville Times

Christian Westermen: Heading to the Tigers (Auburn Bureau photo)
One of the top high school offensive linemen in the nation said this morning he'll sign with Auburn on Feb. 2.

Christian Westerman, rated as the No. 1 guard in the nation by Scout, chose Auburn over Texas at Hamilton High School in  Chandler, Ariz. He had been committed to Texas.

He's Auburn's 19th commitment for the 2011 signing class.

The 6-foot-5, 288-pounder will be far from home, but not from family. His grandparents live on Lake Martin near Auburn. He visited Auburn in December.

Westerman is rated highly by the websites that track recruiting.

Scout and 24/7 Sports rate him a five-star prospect.

Scout says he's the No. 1 guard and the 17th best player overall in the nation.

Rivals says he is the No. 3 offensive tackle and the 27th best player nationally, as well as the No. 1 player in Arizona.

The 24/7 recruiting says Westerman is the No. 3 tackle and the 13th best player nationally, as well as the No. 1 player in Arizona.

Auburn is hosting recruits -- mostly players who have already committed -- during this weekend's national championship celebration at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The Tigers are expected to bring in some high-profile non-committed players next weekend, the final recruiting push before signing day.

Or the guy that called himself "The Virus" and hijacked a plane full of criminals...

Great movie right up until the end.  It's funny because I was talking about this with someone this week.  The movie was great, action packed and even believable...right up til they landed the plane on the strip in Vegas.  Then you just go...FUCK, that was dumb as hell.

Couple of gems from the first page:

Quote
Also, not sure if Grimes has info we don't about Auburn's situation, but now that the NCAA has made all the money off of Cam that it can I don't see why they don't come down and nail Auburn's ass to the wall for shit everyone knows was going down.

Quote
$$$$

Dolla dolla bill yall

Quote
if there's not another Cam around to buy, Auburn doesn't have shit. If he just really wants to go there, so be it. But it's not like that program is set up for a sustained period of excellence. I know we're coming off a shit season, but i think everyone views our season, and theirs, as an abnormality.

Whatever. Fuck him if he bolts. We'll be fine.

Maybe if hes lucky, auburn will be able to purchase Clowney so he wont have to get embarrassed by him again in public.

I bet they sealed the deal with a fresh new pair of earrings

Truth be told, they may have wanted to hire Grimes to secure Westerman.  They needed an OL coach anyway...why not get Grimes and Westerman in the deal.  Hell, we've seen HS coaches hired to secure commits...this would have been a true 2 for 1 deal if they had gotten Grimes.

I know this to be true. Especially the difference in a 6.1 and a 6.0.

Just sayin, if they indeed stripped him of his fifth star too, that's pretty pathetic.
