Most everyone knows about how he recorded their entire first album in his apartment's basement studio. But one neato fact, I did not know....
After lead singer, Brad Delp, died in 2007 they brought on Tommy DeCarlo to front the band. DeCarlo had sent in an audition recording to Scholz on MySpace. Gave it a listen and soon after, he was the new lead singer. They had problems before their first concert with DeCarlo in that they didn't get to do a sound check. Scholz said the first song was "Smokin", and DeCarlo knocked it out of the park.
Scholz said he found out a few days later that when they hired DeCarlo, he was credit manager at Home Depot, and had never been in a band.
That takes some stones.
