Title: Auburn v MSU
Post by: Tiger Wench on February 14, 2009, 06:34:42 PM
Auburn is laying down the 3's like a hot knife thru buttah...

And that Bost kid from MSA doesn't exactly suck.

91-76 Good Guys.

Tay Waller with 32.  Tigers are now 16-9 overall and 5-5 in the SEC.  I listened to some of it and just read the write up.  Sounded like both teams spent the day raining 3's (27 attempts from Auburn and 35 from the Bulldogs)

I'm happy for this club and Auburn basketball.  It's a glimmer of hope.  I'm not going to be a hypocrite and say I haven't been critical for the past 2 years of Lebo.  I have.  And I'm not even insinuating that this little run they're making has turned this program around or Lebo into a good coach.  Regardless of what's happening now, I still say March Madness or make a change.

But War Damn Eagle for what this team is doing and I'll be pulling for em' every game.

Question...has anyone seen Auburn's RPI?  They played a fairly decent preconference schedule and I'm just wondering if getting to 20 wins would be enough to secure a bid.

I am 100% in the same boat as you. I'm hoping they DO make it to the post season, cause I'd rather Lebo stick around if he IS going to improve every year.

I am showing us at 85 in the RPI which is not as good as I thought it would be.  I'm thinking we will have to have 20 wins and 2 wins in the SEC tournament.

You pretty much nailed it.

It is probably going to take 22 wins to be on the bubble. Most years that would get you in, but the SEC is perceived as being very down this year.

That means we need to go 4-2 the rest of the way and then win 2 in the tournament. Or any combination of getting 6 more wins to have a chance. Even at that point the chances aren't any better than 50/50.

The good news is if we go 3-3 the rest of the way in the SEC, we WILL go to the NIT. But I know a lot of yall are thinking NCAA or bust for Lebo. I don't think Gougue will fire him if he makes the NIT though.

Not his call.

Fuck a bunch of low expectations garbage.  Five years and we hope to maybe, possibly, potentially get into the NIT?  Bullshit.

Agreed.  This is Lebo's version of Bama in 2005.  2002-2004 was mediocre, but they get a few lucky breaks and a few good games from key players to lead them to an acceptable season.

I would venture to say that Auburn has more of an opportunity than Bama to be a great basketball program.  For one, we've already set the tone with our new arena being built.  Two, it's well known throughout the country that Bama is obsessed with all things football to the point that if the basketball program overshadowed the football program, they would complain.

I've said since year 2 that Lebo isn't going to get the job done.  Our basketball team is doing well because our RPI is 93.  There's a reason why the RPI isn't as heavily contested as the BCS rankings.  It's much more accurate, so based on it, there are 92 teams better than Auburn.  Surely there is a coach out there that can do better.

I hate that I missed this game based on what I read in this thread (and elsewhere) about how the game went.  Unfortunately, I looked all over my Dish Network channel guide and didn't see it anywhere; even on ESPN Full Court.

All criticism of Lebo aside I'm really glad to see the Auburn basketball program doing better this year; I think that it's only going to get better with or without Lebo; but what the hell do I know.
