Good read, and something I thought about a week or two into the season watching a lot of bluebloods fall from grace, being ranked where they were ONLY off their name....
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/28258332/why-five-college-basketball-teams-were-overhyped-why-five-were-undervalued
Auburn at #2 on the latter list.
(https://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/ncaa/500/2.png?w=110&h=110&transparent=true)Auburn (https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/team/_/id/2/auburn-tigers): The Tigers lost key players, but really didn't have to reload
It's never easy for a Final Four team that loses its top three scorers (Bryce Brown, Jared Harper (https://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/4066248/jared-harper) and Chuma Okeke), and the 43.2 points per game combined they produced. But Bruce Pearl's squad had a secret. While the team's nucleus fueled the most impressive run in the country, Anfernee McLemore (http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4066253/anfernee-mclemore), Danjel Purifoy (http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4066249/danjel-purifoy) and Austin Wiley (http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4078506/austin-wiley) -- three players bouncing back after rocky 2017-18 seasons -- seemed positioned to return to form.
Samir Doughty (https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/3913188/samir-doughty)'s All-American campaign (he's averaging 18.5 PPG and is shooting 38.8% from the 3-point line) was unexpected. But he has had help from Purifoy (10.4 PPG) and Wiley (11.0 PPG, 9.0 RPG, 1.3 BPG), two players who missed the 2017-18 season due to suspensions and struggled to hit their collective stride last season. McLemore's 2017-18 season ended when he suffered a severe ankle injury. He's beginning to look like the player we watched two years ago. Auburn is off to a surprising start, but the veterans it brought back have played a role in the Tigers' post-Final Four strength.

I was one to think that those three might not make it back to where they were. It looked rough for them last season. Especially Purifoy.

I guess what I saw was this:
Auburn has a LOT of talent and lost some. Replaced it with younger, more youthful talent. Chockful of top 10 classes.
NC, Duke, Ky, Kansas, Mich State - have lots of talent and lost a lot. Replaced it with younger, more youthful talent. Chockful of top 10 classes.
Sorry but the latter got their ranking on name only in preseason.

I'm real curious in seeing the results of the next two games; St. Louis and NC State. That could be a decent measuring stick against those 5 teams you mentioned along with other good basketball teams.

I can't recall the last time I missed basketball in December.
And yet here I am.
