Title: Go to the General and....
Post by: Kaos on March 21, 2019, 09:45:28 AM
Lose as the number one seed in the NIT in front of a full house (most of whom were disguised as red seats)!

After Alabama's poorly attended loss to Norfolk State Community College in the first round of the NIT last night, Avery watch is on.

Will the Little General survive to squeak another season or have we heard him croak his last?

While you ponder, it's worth reviewing some gems from a thread from 2016 that I discovered on another board.  These are actual unvarnished, unembellished quotes that are hilarious given the benefit of time.

Some of the gems:

Quote
We can only hope Avery stays for 20 years. I can't even put into words how much I hope he does.

Quote
This might just be my homeristic wishful thinking but I get the vibe that he wants to be our Coach K.. He wants to build a legacy.

Quote
Hopefully he'll do like coach Saban. Ignore other job offers and want to build a dynasty and become one of the greatest of all time. I know that's hard to do, but if anyone can do it, it's Avery Johnson!

Quote
Our bigger issue would be a blue blood like UNC stealing him away. Or the NBA

I believe they are stuck in a Gus situation. Fire now they owe 8 million. Wait until April its 6. I think they have to keep him at least one more year.

I think they just keep him around because he's the only basketball coach that isn't taller than Saban.

General gone.  That’s the report today.
Local station reported this morning that they are negotiating his buyout.
Oh well, hope we enjoyed Bruce while we had him.

So let me get this straight.

Yesterday he loved Alabama, wanted to come back and finish the job, was hopeful he'd get the chance.  Specifically noted that he had years left on his contract (which was extended about a year ago).

Today?  Mutual decision that he leave.

Does mutual decision mean "you're fired and you agree to leave?"

I am jealous actually.  Wish that report was out of Auburn about Gus and AG negotiating a lower buyout.

I actually think he's as good as Gotfried but there's the same lacking whatever that is.
