Title: A-Day
Post by: wesfau2 on March 28, 2023, 10:48:55 AM
Usually I skip these glorified scrimmages, but I am curious to see the new look offense.

Anyone considering hitting the Plains in a couple weeks?

Thinking about it. If a pretty day and I can escape the Mrs. and Kiddo, 4-5 beers and live action football is going to be a certainty.

Ok, assuming it’s the usual. Free weed and a blow job.

I have to leave immediately after the blow job. Thanks for the invite.

It really depends on what kind of money you’re willing to spend. And what your definition of decent is.

If you don’t mind some tooth scrapes, there are a ton of free ones available at x gates.

I shall come with brews in tow hot off running a 5K that morning wearing the most Auburn colored stuff I can get because I can't let these Bammers think I'm slipping. I no long have a source for the meade since the BiL who made it is now the ex-BiL and my bees haven't produced honey in two seasons.

But seriously, I'm going to keep an eye on the weather.  If it's going to be pouring rain, I won't be sitting in JHS watching some silly, jacked up version of a spring football game. If it looks like the weather will hold off, I'll head that way.

sort of with the nutless one here....IF its rain and under 60 degrees, that isn't a whole lot of fun. In fact, it's miserable if you're just sitting still in a stadium. Now, a bar is a different story.

Another reason for me.  The Ford F-150 has been acting like the raggedy ass 8 year old truck that it is.  179K miles.  Had a weird thing happen today, that I won't go into.  Dropped it by the shop about an hour ago. They ran diagnostics and came back with about 14 things wrong.  They can't get to it until Monday, but they laughed when I asked if it would be okay to drive it to Auburn this weekend.

But damn it, it's paid for.

That's where I am at with mine.  It's paid for, and I am too much of a cheap ass to overpay for a vehicle in this economy.  Dropping mine off Friday to replace O2 sensors in both banks because 'ol Bessie likes to skip every now and again.

Have a buddy that has had the same Tacoma for 10+ years & only has paid for oil changes, scheduled maintenance, and new tires in that timeframe.  The Japanese make one fine machine, and they will be getting my money once the F-150 croaks.

Wes - WT invited me to come stay at your condo too, so I will be riding with him.  Thanks in advance.

F series would go 300-500k miles with little maintenance before they started trying to force that shitty little eco boost power plant on everyone. Introduce a turbo into the equation and a whole host of issues and costs will arise. They were much better when they were dropping 5.4 and 5.0 v8s in them. Toyota just started doing this same thing to their tundras (their version of eco boost). I imagine they’ll have similar issues - all in the name of emissions and the epa.

Btw - tacomas aren’t trucks, unless you are a High school kid or have a vagina. Reliable but Just don’t plan to do a lot of truck things with it. Like hauling over 100 lbs or going up hills.

Lots of dudes have vaginas these days. Pretty sure they all drive Ridgelines and Santa Cruz’s, though.

I’ll just pay to fix the Ford. She’s got life in her yet.

Back to spring ball… I am seeing where a walk on is getting some starter reps in practice this week. A guy named Jackson Barkley from Marietta is supposedly making a move. Looking at his twatter, he looks pretty accurate and is making throws all over the field.

Just think… we could have the next “did you know he was a walk on?”

I like a v8, but I will say, that eco boost is a strong engine. Mate it with the 10 speed bud light, and it performs well.
Mileage goes to shit when towing though.

I kinda miss my twofiddy with the 6.0. But ole pedoJoe made it too expensive to drive.

Those 5.4s are usually pretty good. Keep the plugs changed and they run a long time. Damn bud light suffers too quickly though.

I've got a buddy who had a vagina.  He recently got an all electric F-150.  He kept it maybe 3 months, before he asked for his penis back.  250 miles max, on a full charge.  100 or less if he was towing anything. If the charge was low, he couldn't play the radio, charge a phone etc.

It's the Turbo...not the engine.....with all the moving parts in them, they're just one more "ecosystem" to have issues in the long run.....and if you've never bought a power adder (SuperC/Turbo) - they cost a FORTUNE. They will most likely go out AFTER any warranties up. And honestly, a 4 cyclinder in a 6K pound truck is just a bad idea design wise. 5.0 Coyote Motors are one of the best things Ford has ever made but we know it's all about EPA stuff and not design or power. Those things are strong.

My 5.4 went 315KL before I traded it in. I still regret it. Only thing I ever did to it as far as repair was 1 coil pack.

Don't get me wrong Snake - a Yoda is a solid vehicle and a Tacoma is an excellent ride - it just doesn't make the best "truck" if thats what you aim to do with it. Few guys on my street have them and they simply drive them to work and back and keep them in the garage.

TWIN turbo. And that is why I got the extended warranty for the first time ever.
It’s in my wife’s expedition and it will get up and go.
I prefer the coyote engine as you stated.
I can’t stand GMC, but they have that 5.3 tuned to perfection.
Ford can’t seem to perfect an engine and stick with it.
The 5.4 is strong but sucks the bottoms out of the tank.
I had an expedition with the 4.6 back in 99 and really liked that engine.

Takeaways from a 1-dimensional, vanilla day:

1. Offensive line was getting push against some mostly known commodities against the D Line. That seemed almost alien.

2. Not that it matters, but Robby looked the best of the 3.

3. Fairly certain TJ leaves in summer. Personally, I say good riddance.

4. Thinking it’s apparent that we will shop hard for QB, Jack/edge guys, and maybe another WR.

Happy Easter to you all.

Agreed with all. OL push has me concerned about the DL. It seemed like too much. But it was nice for our deep RB room. We will likely have a RB or two enter the portal, I’m guessing.

Overall, I see improvement. But unless I’m missing something, which is entirely possible, we have a long way to go.

QB, OL depth, WR, pass rush, LB, safety depth are all improvement areas. Portal opens back up on 15th. We have to part ways with several in order to make room. I think I heard Blackerby on locked on AU say we lose around 5-7 to be at the max. And that’s before any portal additions, I believe. So I guess we have to lose 10 or so. Not sure.

Regardless, I trust Harsin.

We are never going to see the roly poly RB (Jackson) play in an actual game. He needs to transfer to somewhere where he will get a shot. He is a bruiser with good vision and good feet. I would love to see him do well.
The new guy, Justin Jones, looks to be a hoss also.
The regulars are very good and I think will do well this year.
Its nice to have a stable of RBs that good.
And an OL that can get some push.

We really needed a nice dry day to see if there was ANY QB that had a clue. As it stands, we are at the same place we were at the end of the season. And that is not a good place to be.

Agreed. I would add that AU has had plenty of dry days to analyze the QBs. Thats why Freeze has stated without shyness they will be looking at the portal for a starting QB. If they can't find one better than what is currently on the roster, pretty sure we'll see a run heavy, RPO type offense.

The 2nd portal window will be fun to follow. If it ends up that we can’t get our guy, I’d be happy to watch a 2013 reenactment. The sequel very rarely tops the original, but it would still be worth the watch with some actual coaches.

I think the same. However we are minus one of the fastest QB’s I’ve ever seen. But Robby can make for a pretty good read option guy, I’d say.

If not Robby or a portal find, we be furked.

And I was the only person on the internet that predicted that Cam was a Heisman winner and would lead the country in qb categories, after his one A day. Because I know what to look for. I could just tell that he was the man. I don’t see that in any of the players this A day.

I’m going out on a limb and saying that we won’t make the playoff.

We for sure won't make the playoff.  But we will get at least 8 wins.  I can feel it in my boner... I mean, my bones.

It's called a F Shack.  In some smaller circles, it is also referred to as a Soup Kitchen.

I can see similarities in Ashford and Nick Marshall as well.  Marshall wasn't all that accurate, but he was just effective enough in the passing game because err'body had to focus so much on the run game.  I could see that happening here too, if we don't go out and get something better.  Ashford may not be as quick as Marshall, but he is definitely fast.

The difference is Nick Marshall never played with hesitancy. He went for it, good, bad, whatever.

RobbEEEEEEE! (TM The War Rapport) plays like he's scared to see his shadow stepped on by the defense.

Can you teach balls? Because that's what he needs more than anything.

I'm not a Robbie fan, so far.  He may convince me at some point, but right now, he's just fast.

In his defense, though, he was thrown into a horrible situation, running scared behind a makeshift band of misfits for an O-line. When Caddy took over, and went back to a more traditional, smash mouth type style, RA looked a lot more comfortable, and decisive, rushing for over 100 twice in the last 4 games.

It may all be a moo point, though.  I love steak.  U Free said he wanted to sling it around Saturday.  Obviously, the weather nixed that idea.  Probably just to see how the passing game has progressed.  But, I don't think we'll ever see a 2013 type RPO again.  Not to that extent.

Did anyone hear U make a couple of in game comments about Tee Jay.  He took off one time, and Free said, "That's not his game".  Another time Finley ran it, you could tell U was not happy from the standpoint of saying, "He didn't need to leave the pocket.  There was no need to take off."

You spelled Ashford’s first name wrong.

I don’t think it’s a “balls” thing. RA is fast, but he is nowhere near as quick as NM. If NM saw a DE hesitate at all, he took off. He did that because he knew very few players could outquick him. RA will get caught, a lot, in the option keep.

NM also had the option to hand it off up the middle to a back that could either run a water buffalo over or catch a squirrel and the DEs knew that, so all he needed was that twitch.

NM was also a magician selling the fake at the mesh point with Tre Mason.  It wasn't as smooth with CAP the following season.

In '13, no camera man, defense, or viewer could keep up with who had the damn ball until we were 15 yards down field a lot of the time.

I was in Kyrgyzstan (in-transit back from a 7 monther in Afghani-land) for the Washington State game, watching us go back and forth against a pretty wide open Mike Leach (RIP) offense.  Based off that game, I knew it was going to be a fun season to watch.  Even so, it still exceeded any expectations we could have had coming off that 3-9 season.  I don't think we will catch lightning in a bottle like that again, but am as excited as I have ever been to watch Auburn football with the momentum they've built in 1 off-season with Caddy as the catalyst.

Is "water buffalo" code for AJ McCarron's mom?  Pretty sure TM put a hurtin' on that.

I poke fun at Snag’s and I’m sure that I take it too far, sometimes. And for that, I apologize. I don’t mean it to be mean spirited.

To your question, we joke about that a lot. I know that in actuality Snag’s knows a lot about balls, resting on his chin.

Yeah option QBs are often in the clenches and take hard contact. That's not for Ashford. Still hoping for a capable #2 out of the portal.

Just a little comparison/contrast.  I don't know why, other than I was curious, and bi.

Malik Willis had 141 rushing attempts in 10 games in 2020 Liberty.  His second year, he rushed it 197 times in 13 games.

Nick Marshall ran it 172 times in 2013, and 153 times in 2014.

I put Marshall out there to kind of give an idea of how much we may see our QB running.  If Liberty had played the full 13 games in the Covid year, Willis would project to run it 183 times.  I think it's safe to say that if U Free has an athletic QB, he's going to be toting the rock quite a bit.
