Title: $$$$
Post by: Snaggletiger on December 06, 2022, 02:57:16 PM
The NY Mets signed Justin Verlander, who has pounded Kate Hudson's Noo Noo on multiple occasions, to a 2-year, $86 million contract.  It's good to be Justin.

Meanwhile, The Phillies inked SS, Trae Turner, to an 11-year deal worth over $300 million.  I don't know who Trae is banging, but he can scorch all the fine cootchy he wants with that kind of bank.

Me and a buddy were in B-Dubs yesterday, eating wings and downing a pitcher, when we saw that come over the scroll.  He was shaking his head asking how in the hell they can sign these players for that kind of money?

Because it's there.  These teams aren't taking out loans or mortgaging the farm to work these contracts.  The money is there.  And with Verlander signing with the Mets, they're about to get a huge spike in Mets apparel sales.

who holdup.....verlander is pounding Kate Hudson now too? That dude rules.

Srsly tho....Mets, Phils and Rangers are tripping over their own dicks to attempt to out-Yankee and Dodger everyone. Its just never been a great strategy past a few seasons. The Astros (as much as I don't like em), Cards and Braves take the correct approach to me.

Over paying guys 4-5 years past their primes seems to be the trend.

Buzz - the Mets, dodgers and Phillies welcome you to the club.

Sounds like the Cubs are "well down the road" in talks with Correia and if that falls through, they will go hard after Swanson.  Mebbie they are serious this time around.

Turner set the tone for BOTH of those guys to get overpaid.

Jansen just signed for 2/32 with the Red SAWWWX - curious how he will adjust to the pitch clock with that 10 minute windup. Sorry he aint worth 16 a year.

Quitana also just got 2/26 from the Mets - hes an inning eater and nothing more.

My word...FA this year is gonzo.

Smart move by the Cubs.  Just clearing more cap space so they can sign Mike Trout, Jacob deGrom, Fernando Tatis and Show Hey O-Tommy.

Cubs in 2023!!!

Listening to CBS Sports this morning, and they were having the same conversation about teams spending sick money on players.  It was kicked off with the Xander Bogarts to the Padres story.  11 years at $280 Mil.  If memory serves, the Padres now have Bogarts, Fernando Tatis, Jr., Manny Machado, Juan Soto, Yu Darvish and Josh Hader...among others.  Holy Schnikies, that's a lot of cash to pay out.

But the hosts point was all these teams have way more resources than they let on.  Some just choose not to spend it....cough, cough...Pittsburgh

I have it on good authority that the Orioles are going to go after Pedro Cerrano this offseason!  Haven't heard the details of his contract yet.

lot of teams are just giving the middle finger to the salary cap and willing to pony up the luxury tax payment - Mets are the first in the clubhouse on the front. Errrrrrbody just trying to buy a ring now.....sigh

Btdubbz - few insiders predicting Dansby to the Cubbies and Correa to the Braves...if true....WHOA.

That would be interesting fo sho.  If we get Dansby, all we need for that championship run is a first baseman, a catcher, 3 starters and a closer.

Turner and Boegarts set awful precedent here. Its gonna force teams to overpay like never before. If I'm the Braves and have to give out a long contract to a SS? Yeahhhh, Correa all day. No offense to Dansby.

I know it's foosballz signing day, but dizzamm.  Carlos Correa flips from the Giants and signs with the Mets for 12 years and $315 large.  12 years???

Gotta hand it to the Mets. Spending all that money to get a wild card only to lose to the cubs in the ‘23 NLCS.

Gonna be paying a shortstop 30
Million after he turns 40.

At this point the Mets have pigeonholed themselves into a lose lose. No one is going to respect a ring now. And if they lose , it’s going to be even more hilarious. Ahhh, the Mets.

You have the Dodgers, then the Padres, and now the Mets spending obscene amounts of cash to buy championships.

And they're all going to eventually lose to the Cubs.

BWAAAHAHAHAHA......

BWAAAHAHAHAHA......

It’s the Mets on spending and the next few are not even close. It’s insane and borderline criminal what they’ve done. Illegal, no. But it’s absolutely goes against the spirit of the game and the luxury tax rule to do what they are doing. Cohen is literally just trying to buy a ring to satisfy his and their fans teeny peen syndrome. It may be time for mlb to get a hard cap of some sort.

Ie - 235 million soft cap. Luxury tax to 300. Then that’s the hard cap in which you either start forfeiting games or face suspensions.
