Title: War Eagle Ball
Post by: Snaggletiger on February 17, 2022, 03:58:16 PM
The Tigers open the season tomorrow (18th) out in Arlington, Texas.  They'll play 3 games against Oklahoma, #12 Texas Tech, and finish with Kansas State.

The remainder of the OOC schedule is the usual, uninspiring garbage.  That may be where they have to pick up most of their wins, because they are predicted to be at the bottom of the conference again this year.  Plus, the SEC appears to be loaded again, with 4 of the top 5 teams in the preseason poll being from this conference.

Probably won't help the talent level, but just past the right field wall, they opened a hitting center, donated by Josh Donaldson.  Went in before one of the football games this year.  Pretty cool place, but really just some glorified, indoor batting cages.

The War Eagles took 2 out of 3 games out in Texas this weekend.  Lost the opener to Oklahoma, then beat #12 Texas Tech and destroyed Kansas State 12-1.  Only allowed 5 total runs in the 3 games.

Next game is tomorrow against Troy in Auburn.  I noticed the SEC slate has 30 games, but does not include Missouri, Florida or FUGA.  Unfortunately, it does have series against 5 teams in the top 10.  But, that's always the case in the SEC.

The Fighting War Eagles popped the Condoms 13-1.  Good to see them playing so good in the early season, but I don't get too hyped. They pretty much did the same thing last season, and even scored over 30 runs in one game.  Then the SEC schedule started.

Damn is there a sport this conference doesn't not suck in?

Hockey.

That's just because we don't want to not suck in hockey.  If we wanted to not suck, we wouldn't not suck.

Wait...what?

The good guys go to 6-2 with a 13-7 win over Alabama State.  Most runs they've given up this year, but I'm thinking they used the bottom of their rotation for some, or all of the game. They had a 9-2 lead going into the 6th and got rocked pretty good the next two innings.

UAB comes in tonight, then Rhode Island this weekend for a 5 game set. Double Headers on Saturday and Sunday.

Tigers got 11-2 with a 4 game sweep of Rhode Island.  I read the schedule wrong and thought they had 5 games this weekend.  However, in 4 games, Auburn pitching gave up a grand total of 3 runs, while scoring Eleventy Skwazillion themselves.

Now at 12-2 with a late 4-3 comeback win over Tennessee Tech.  I kind of shrugged off TT, thinking it was just a mid week game against a small program. But I was curious...and Bi...so I Google Chromed Tech.  Not so fast, my friend. Last night was their first loss.  Tech was 10-0 coming in.  They had a game suspended late due to weather against Tennessee, who is pretty damn good this year, with UT leading 5-4. So, looks like a good win.

I was at that game and we played ok.  Our pitching is not a strong point and I guess we should have known that coming into the year.  I think Butch said if the pitching comes around we can make some noise.  It really showed this past weekend.  We lost the series to MTSU 1-3.  MTSU is 7-10 overall and 9 of those losses are bad!  I mean really BAD!  I'm hoping that Huddy can pull a rabbit out of his hat but it looks gloomy.

A&M scares me.  They have some ugly loses and some quality wins.  Took two of three from the kittens in Baton Rogue.  I hope our pitching staff can make some strides this weekend but not counting on it.

Good Tigers go down to Baton Rude, and hold off a late rally to take game 1.  They score 6 in the 5th and hold on to win 6-5.  Now 18-8 (4-3).

Picked to finish at the bottom, but so far, this bunch competes.  Game was on SEC Network.

A 6-5 lead on the road going into the bottom of the 9th.  Total cluster fuck.  Never in question from pitch #1 that MSU, who was only 19-15, would walk this off.  They did, as the closer walked in the winning run.  Depressing.

Baseball Dudes now 25-12 after a 10 inning win over The Sting of Alabama State.  They play again tonight vs. Kennesaw State. 22-13 (11-4) The Owls hold a win over Georgia Tech and lost 17-15 earlier against Coitus Georgia.  A loss wouldn't surprise me, as they're normally not putting their best on the bump, or in the field in these mid-week games.

Got real chippy in the 9th.  AU blasts a 3 run HR, and the batter goes huge bat flip that lands right in front of the UT dugout.  The UT coach grabs the bat and throws it toward the Auburn players.

A little peak into their apparent hatred of the Tigers:

Never forget that Auburn was Tennessee (minus the success) before Tennessee became what they are today.  Their catcher set the standard for douchebags that only the current Vols can match or surpass.  Fast forward to 14:27 for an example.

https://youtu.be/cfE9WHMeo9E?t=583

And of course let's not forget the game in the 2017 SEC tournament.

To set the stage, in the first inning Chad Spanberger hit a solo HR.  In the third, he hit a two-run homer.  In the fourth, a grand slam.  He came up in the 5th, with the Hogs leading 10-0 in a game that was not far from being called due to the run rule, with runners at 2nd and 3rd.  The conditions were set for a potential three-run homer, which would've given Spanberger a home run cycle (solo, 2R, 3R, GS).  Auburn coach Bitch Thompson chose instead to walk the bases loaded taking away the chance for Spanberger to make history.

In short, fuck Auburn baseball.  The real losers last weekend were decent people everywhere, when the earthquake in Knoxville which would've swallowed up both teams into the pits of Hell never materialized.

Apparently Butch is a meanie who wouldn't volunteer some kid to get a shot at setting some record.  Baseball unwritten rules or just garden variety soft-batch pussification...whatevs.

What a steaming vajayjay.  You're close to being 10-run ruled and probably going home. So you walk the guy who already has 7 RBI's on the day? And BTW, if there's less than 2 outs, that's the only call so you can get a force at any base.

Yeah, pretty much that.

Also, anyone who suggests that a coach should bend over and take the high hard one so some kid can have his day in the record books can fuck allllllllll the way off.

The coach has his career and payday to consider.  The "kid" is a semi-pro (at this level) athlete.  Fuck them "kids."

Not finishing the bama game hurt.  That was bullshit.  Sweep the three (and the leg) and the outlook is different.

Reminds me of when that drunken Bryunt coot would schedule an extra SEC game - always Vandy - so his team would have that half game advantage and claim the SEC title.

Agreed.  I don't see us hosting by any stretch.  However, I will say that Kentucky was playing much better sown the stretch.  They took 2 out of 3 from Tennessee, I think they split with USCe, (Don't quote me on that) smoked an OOC opponent, then Auburn came to town.

Still, no way to end the regular season.

The idea is to get hot at the end. This team has started a downslide.
This doesn’t bode well for the big tourney.

Hosting a Regional.  Auburn (37-19) starts at 6:00 tonight against Southeastern Louisiana. (30-29)

Depending on the outcome, will play the winner/loser of UCLA vs. Florida State tomorrow.

They crushed sela. Like 11 runs in the first inning. I hate these games. We always follow it up with a dud.

In a surprising move, we dropped 21 on FSU.  A forty-spot in 2 games.

We'll take the winner of FSU/UCLA at 6pm.

Up on UCLA 9-0 in the bottom of the 6th and mother nature says fuck you again.
Barnet had 10 Ks and was rolling.  Not sure who will take the mound in relief, but they will have a 9 run lead and 11 outs to get.

Has a 2019 feel to it for sure. But....one game at a time I guess. Lot of giants seem to be falling. By Giants I mean, regional hosts/overall top 16 seeds. Lets hope Vandy wins today in Corvallis so we can host a super.

Oregon State Bearded Clams

47-16 overall

20-10 Conference

21-8 Home

Two common opponents in Vandy and UCLA.

Oregon State was 2-3 against the Bruins, losing 2 of 3 in Corvalis, and splitting 2 games in the PAC 12 tourney.  UCLA won the first tournament game 25-22.  Of course, they just split a pair with Vanderbilt.

Auburn went 2-1 vs. the Dores, and then smoked the Powder Blue and Yellow Bears 11-4 yesterday.

I like where our head is at.  Just wish it were on teh planez.

I watched a game and a half of theirs against Arky.  Adjusting for tourney juice and whatnot, that's a dangerous team.

They have a deep and strong pitching and their bats are pretty hot.

I wouldn't sleep on these beavers, but I hope our boys are up to pound them for a few days.

This has been a solid club all year long.  Good pitching and enough hitting.  They had a winning record (16-13) in the best conference in the land. Got incredibly hot in a 4 game stretch, including the opener against the Beavers, scoring 58 runs.  But, the last 3 games, they have faced some incredible pitching.  Have no idea what Stanford will send to the bump, but we have to get somewhat of a break.  Please!

I hope we can pull one off here in Omaha, but at the end of the day? Hap tip to Butch, Gabe and Timmy.

We were picked next to last in the SEC in all the "expert" write-ups and last in the west. Were in fuggin OMAHA. 1-2 years ahead of schedule. I don't wanna lose, but I aint even mad at these boys. They've stood toe to toe with ball teams that are MUCH deeper on paper. Like you said, Oregon State (prob best starting staff in baseball) , and then DeLucia Saturday (BTW Ole Miss was Number 5 preseason and Number 1 in March),  AND NOW the number 2 team in the land Stanford. No excuses but that's a Tough tough stretch there. Were severely outmanned.

In fairness to the outfielders, that stadium seems to be built on some sort of vortex that swings in/out at crazy speeds.

But, yeah.  Could've seen more from LF.

i disagree with this overall...i felt the bats and defense [not so stellar in the CWS] were our strengths through the entire season.  our catcher is a stud.    yeah we had baby Ruth that stole the highlight reel but really didn't do shit in superregionals or CWS when we needed him the most...same with Rambo.

on the flipside our pitching staff came to play in the post season.  season overall...meh.  we didn't really have that number 2 guy or or number 3 guy...the Puerto Rican was serviceable but not lights out steller...to me we failed short in not having 2 pitchers that could be counted on to start...get the win.

Da rumor is its his alma tomater's rival up in Auburn. Lee Scott.

I watched a game at Glenwood a few years ago. Nice facilities.  But I heard Lee Scott got it goin' on.  Haven't been, but Snagette went there for a soccer match Mini was in.  She was quite impressed.

It’s got better facilities and more money than glenwood. And it’s not even close.
