Title: Fear the Walking Dead

Who's tuning in on Sunday night?  I was late to the party on the original series, but thanks to Netflix I'm now only a season behind.  I'm pretty pumped about the potential of this show.  In the original series the first season jumps ahead a few weeks while Rick is in the hospital, so it goes from somewhat normal to crazy zombieland.  This show is initially going to focus on what happened in the world while Rick was out cold.  I just hope there aren't any farms near LA.

"When civilization ends, it ends fast."

Hopefully, the writers took all the criticism of the snail's pace soap drama of TWD to heart.

You mean you didn't love the underlying sexual tension between Darrell and Carol?  Or Darrell and Beth?  Oh I get it, you hated seeing the interracial love between Maggie and Glenn, and the potential for it between Rick and Machone.  Racist.

Slow for about the first 89:30.  I will give it one more week.

Tried.  Didn't make it through the thing.

The same propensity to move slower than a turtle swimming in molasses.  And zombie fatigue.  Walking Dead is enough.

Also had a hard time connecting with any of the main characters.

I didn't care about the stupid drug kid who is a terrible actor.  Wanted him to die.  Didn't like the racially confused and sullen daughter at all.  No connection to the woman, she just didn't move the needle.  No interest in the cliched son from the outside who thinks daddy doesn't love him enough.

I like the guy playing the lead, but I only like him as Smiley in Training Day.

I don't think I'm going to watch this series at all.  I have enough stress getting through the same dumbass stories over and over on the regular WD.

Valid opinions. I disagree with it being that bad but get that it's not for everyone. If not held up against the fandom of the original series, I think it's pretty intriguing. Then again, I suspend my DirectTV service during the time of year there is no TWD or college football to watch.

I also thought, and others agreed, that the kid kinda favored Johnny Depp. I'm surprised that couldn't win you over a bit more, K.

He reminded me more of that Matthew Gray Gobbler fuck from Criminal Minds.  I dislike that character immensely.  So that may have been part of it.

But he wasn't the only one I didn't care anything about.  All of them were stereotypes.  And I just don't care about their family dynamic, the black boyfriend or any of them.

Walking Dead grabbed me immediately with the shooting of the small child and kept my attention by basically following Rick and letting everybody see the world through his eyes before introducing a bunch of characters.  If I stepped into Dead right now and saw Darryl crying and riding bikes with gays, Carol making cookies, Rick skeeving on a "married" woman, the hat wearing fucktard, a negress with a sullen look and a big sword and all the rest of that shit?  I don't think I'd want to watch that either.

Too many moving parts in Fear already and I just don't care about any of them.

Agree with most of K's criticisms of the pilot.

I think they fucked up by focusing on one family (full of insipid characters) rather than a few disparate individuals.  The writers could have still shown how the initial incidents/attacks crept into the public consciousness without showing a family with a full blown case of myopia due to a junkie's past behavior.

Hopefully the next few episodes will be tales of other characters because I probably won't watch an entire season built around these yahoos.

Well now, if you two are in near total agreement about this project I see no reason to waste my time on it.
Had enough of the zombie theme anyway.

Yeppers.  Kind of ready for the zombie deal to go the way of Beanie Babies.

I mean, once I had the whole collection I just didn't see the point.

Wait, what?

This is what I was looking for.  Confirmation that the world will end on Sept 23rd.
