Title: Crootin this Weekend...
Post by: WiregrassTiger on January 23, 2014, 03:20:54 PM
Not as many players this weekend but a big weekend nonetheless. Are we gonna get Evans Prowler? Or, this WR from SC.  Hand me some skreetz.

After hosting a big group of elite recruits last weekend, Auburn will welcome a smaller yet no less important contingent of official visitors to campus this weekend.

Headlining the recruiting weekend for the Tigers will be local Auburn High School star Rashaan Evans, a five-star athlete recently named the state of Alabama's top prospect in the updated AL.com A-List. Evans, 6-foot-3, 220-pounds, is being recruited by the Tigers for the "Star" position in Ellis Johnson's defense, a role which requires a combination of linebacker-like tackling and athleticism along with the speed and pass coverage responsibilities of a safety. Ellis, who visited Evans and his family on Wednesday night at their home, has told the five-star prospect he is an ideal fit for the position and that he could contribute immediately as a freshman.

While the Tigers had hoped to convince Evans to visit last weekend when a much larger group of recruits were in town, Evans will have some company from several other Auburn commits who will travel back to the plains for unofficial visits, including Oxford running back Roc Thomas, St. Paul's linebacker Tre Williams and Opelika cornerback Stephen Roberts among others.

While Evans remains Auburn's top target heading down the stretch, the Tigers will also welcome two official visitors this weekend who are currently committed elsewhere. Miami star Treon Harris is currently committed to Florida State but has shown some interest in the Tigers lately and will travel to the plains for an official visit this weekend. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound dual threat quarterback is also considering Florida and Miami and could play either quarterback or a host of other positions at the college level thanks to his versatility and athleticism.

Joining Harris in Auburn will be South Carolina committed wide receiver Shaq Davidson. The 6-foot, 170-pound playmaker tweeted on Tuesday that he's planning to take an official visit to the plains this weekend after being committed to the Gamecocks since last July. Davidson, a consensus four-star prospect, listed Auburn among his top two finalists before choosing the Gamecocks last summer and has maintained strong relationships with several members of the Auburn coaching staff.

Stay tuned to AL.com/recruiting for the latest on Auburn's big recruiting weekend.

Yes to Evans, Shaq and Harris.

Yes meaning Auburn will land all three.

Edit: That's contingent on all three visiting this weekend.

Skreetz are saying Saban was in Auburn today visiting the Evanses.

They took him to Niffers.

Mrs. Evans reportedly cooked spaghetti for UCLA's Jim Morra.

#Championship.

Would be amazing to get Evans, too, but this list makes me nice and stiff as it stands:

I really don't think that at this point, there is anything more to learn about either program. Must say that this article doesn't make me feel more confident about getting RE.

Also, the title states that  he's the top player in the state. What's the difference in the Mr. Footballs that Roc got and the "top player"?

Alabama's coaching staff continues to make its best recruiting push for the state's top prospect, Auburn High School linebacker Rashaan Evans, as Nick Saban and Kirby Smart visited the star recruit and his family at their home on Thursday night.

"It was a really great visit, as we expected," said Evans' father, Alan Evans. "I feel like we really got a lot accomplished. Coach Saban went into a lot of detail about their plans for Rashaan both on the field and off the field, what his chances look like to get on the field early and how they feel they can help him develop over the course of his career there."

Saban also shared a laugh or two with the family regarding the video of the coach dancing during the family's official visit to Tuscaloosa that was posted on social media by Evans' younger brother.

"He joked with us about it," Alan said. "He said he really wasn't upset at all about the video being posted. He thought it was good to show people another side of him that they don't usually get to see. Coach Saban really has a great sense of humor, that's one thing a lot of people may not know about him."

The visit was Saban's last chance to meet with Evans and his family before National Signing Day, though Smart plans to visit one last time next Saturday following Evans' trip to UCLA.

"I think we feel good about Alabama at this point and we feel like we have a great understanding of everything they have to offer."

Evans and his family will spend this weekend taking an official visit to Auburn, where they hope to continue to get a feel for the atmosphere and the personalities of both the coaches and players.

"We know the campus inside and out at this point. This weekend will be about talking more about Rashaan's role in their defense, spending time with the coaches and players, and really just having some fun."

Stay tuned to AL.com/recruiting for the latest on Alabama and Auburn recruiting.

I don't get it. As an AU alum, if my kid were offered from AU, uat, etc. I would definitely push for AU. I giveth a shit not what he wants. This is AU dammit.

Now if AU did not offer and uat did and he decided to go to uat, I would hope he has great games against AU for 4 years. He is my son and that comes first.

That being said, I would hope he would not spit in my face given a choice.

All of this unless Alan Evans has no love for AU. But I just don't see that.

Would you give Evans a blow in order to secure his verbal commitment or would it also take $50?

If it makes you feel better, next Wednesday is just the first day of the signing period.  Schools can still have visitors in as long as it's not a "dead period", and they can sign anytime until the end of the signing period.

I'm too lazy to look up what the actual dates are

Think some of you need to stand back from the edge. Rashaan Evans will be a War Eagle.

Crystal Ball has him 95% to AU. Word is he has been recruiting RC for us.

Clark is a saucered and blowed Bama lock.

The Star position is currently manned by Therezie who has proven himself.
But the object of all the chatter into the Spring was Garrett...it was almost mythical.
So from my view of the edge the only certainties I see as signing day approaches is that that the incoming better be prepared for a reality check.
