Title: Go Get Em' Gus
Post by: Snaggletiger on May 03, 2013, 02:27:47 PM
La. QB prospect looking hard at AU.  Good to hear.  cops-n-pastas al.kum

Gus Malzahn has Kiehl Frazier and Jonathan Wallace battling for his starting quarterback job. He has 2012 Alabama Mr. Football Jeremy Johnson, JUCO transfer Nick Marshall and McGill-Toolen star Jason Smith coming this summer. And he is working hard on landing 2014 Florence High star Kendrick Doss, who plans to attend Big Cat Weekend later this month.

This week, Malzahn and the Tigers extended an offer to another dual-threat quarterback in the 2014 class whom he thinks could be a good fit to run his offense --  Brandon Harris of Bossier City (La.) Parkway.

"His offensive scheme, what he likes to do with the offense, I know the background on Malzahn," Harris told Rivals.com. "When the recruiting process started, one school I wanted to hear from was Auburn. The things Coach Malzahn has done with quarterbacks -- they had good quarterbacks at Tulsa, then of course Cam Newton at Auburn, he's an offensive genius. ... I wanted this offer."

Harris (6-3, 206), who wears the No. 1 because of Newton, threw for 2,573 yards and 26 touchdowns and ran for 667 yards and 12 scores in 2012. Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Ohio State also offered Harris on the same day as Auburn last week, joining a list of offers that's now reached 25.

He told Rivals he plans to visit Auburn and expects to make a decision on his commitment in July.

B-B-B-B-Bump  al.kum

After a busy week in the world of quarterback recruiting, Bossier City, Louisiana quarterback Brandon Harris now stands as one of the top uncommitted quarterback prospects remaining. Harris, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound dual-threat star, has watched a number of his fellow 2014 quarterbacks pledge their commitments to schools around the SEC and the rest of the nation but says he's not changing his plans.

"I'm still sticking with my announcement date of July 18th," Harris said. "I have said all along that would be my decision date and I feel like any coaches that truly want me will wait for that date."

Harris has already taken unofficial visits to LSU, Alabama and Ohio State in recent weeks and plans to visit at least three more schools before his July 18th decision date.

"Right now, my tentative plan is to visit Auburn on July 10," Harris said. "Before that, I will visit Baylor and Ole Miss at some point although I don't have dates setup yet. I want Auburn to be my last visit so I can have a full week to soak everything up and pray about my decision with my family."

Harris, who is rated the top dual-threat QB in the nation by 247Sports, has listed Auburn as one of his top three schools for weeks and said that while recruiting is a constantly shifting prospect for him, his relationship with the Auburn coaching staff has remained strong and stable.

"I really get along so well with Coach Malzahn and Coach Lashlee. It's been great getting to know them and I think we agree on a lot of things, even outside of football. Coach Lashlee likes to call me 'Mini Cam' which makes me laugh. I'm obviously not as big as Cam but I do pride myself on my arm strength and my ability to make plays with my feet and I love Coach Malzahn's offense."

While Harris said he isn't ready to name any favorites or even specify what it is he'll be looking for during his remaining visits, he did say all the remaining contenders for his signature share one thing in common: a willingness to play a fast-paced, wide open style of football.

"It's really what college football is moving towards now," Harris said. "You're seeing it all over the country. Auburn, Ole Miss, Ohio State and Baylor all run some kind of spread formation and they all try to keep the pace high and LSU will be moving to that this fall. It's something that I think fits my skills really well."

Did LSU hire a new OC to go to the NNHUNH?  Honestly, if they were to find the right fit at OC to run that style.....and Les actually let's him run the offensive show (Huge IF)...look out.

Cam Cameron:  Selective snips from teh Times-Picky-youneey.  Sabinz needs to get his fat asses in shape cuz the HUNUNNHNUNH is here to stay...

Call it a faster pace, or perhaps a sense of urgency. The first day of LSU's spring football certainly moved more quickly, at least offensively.

[snip]

Cameron said he wants to add to the playbook and build on what the offense already knows, but clearly he's changing the way the offense is implemented. The terminology is different, according to Mettenberger, with a numbering system that will simplify play calls.

I think the fact that 6'3" 260# LB's can actually become a liability scares the panties off of Sabins and company. That is a major part of his philosophy.

Btw, Coach Malzahn wasn't "working hard to land Kendrick Doss"...not with Brandon Harris still mulling over his decision (WOTS: Harris to LSU). There's another QB that's in Auburn's cross hairs, he just doesn't know it yet...Sean White (Think Brandon Cox's field vision, arm and pocket presence combined with Neil Caudle's mobility). White is a 3 star prospect right now, but he's gonna climb after these Summer camps.
IMO, the QB board probably looks like this:
1. DeShawn Watson (Clemson commit and he's already in "the bag" with Clemson, along with his HS HC)

2a. Brandon Harris (WOTS: LSU commitment coming soon)

2b. Sean White (Auburn will jump on him very soon). I'm guessing they'll have a inkling of where Harris is going sometime next week, and they'll begin to go after Mr. White. IMO, I'm beginning to like Sean White a little more than Harris, each time I hear quotes from the Elite 11 coaches. It's possible that he'll be in the Top 2 for MVP of the Elite 11 camp.

If that is a Yeti, Shawn White must be the height of a troll doll.  I'm pretty sure Yeti are very short.  Or maybe that is dependent on the species?  Or gender?

Historians haven't 100% confirmed this, but it is widely speculated that when the early settlers during the Missouri Compromise spotted what they referred to as the "Buttertoothed Yeti", what they actually witnessed was a member of the alien race popularized through the character Station in the 1991 film Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey.

Auburn's Malzahn lands future QB in White
July, 16, 2013

By Derek Tyson | ESPN.com

First-year Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn landed his first quarterback commitment on Tuesday as Elite 11 MVP Sean White (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./University School) gave his pledge to the Tigers.

The 6-foot-1, 199-pound quarterback chose Auburn over offers from Cincinnati, West Virginia and Syracuse. After his strong Elite 11 performance, he was also receiving interest from South Carolina, Wisconsin and Tennessee.

White, who passed for 3,348 yards and 40 touchdowns and six interceptions as a junior, said there were several factors why he chose Auburn.

"I just loved everything about Auburn when I visited last weekend," White said. "The stadium, the atmosphere on game days, the level of football and they are so tight -- it's like a family there and then obviously playing for Coach Malzahn and Coach [Rhett] Lashlee and what they can do with quarterbacks there.

"They put up big numbers and score a lot of points. I think we will have a great ability to win in the SEC in the future. I'm just so fired up about everything. It's just an amazing place."

Malzahn, as the offensive coordinator at Auburn, helped mold quarterback Cam Newton into a Heisman Trophy winner and NFL starter. White said it was a special feeling for Malzahn to personally select him to be his future quarterback.

"I think it's huge," White said. "Coach Malzahn knows what he's looking for. So when he thinks I have the ability to come in and play for him and be successful -- it means a lot. He's had a lot of success and he knows what he's looking for, so that's a great thing."

Though White has not decided when he will enroll, he said Auburn fans can expect to get a competitive player.

"They can expect to get a winner and someone that is very competitive and I'm just going to come in and help the program win in any way possible."

That includes helping Auburn recruit for their 2014 class. White was the quarterback for the 7-on-7 power South Florida Express and will be looking to add other South Florida prospects to the Tigers class.

"I know that in South Florida, I know a lot of kids and I think a lot of kids respect me so I think I can definitely pull some kids to Auburn," he said. "I know one kid that I'm going to try to get for sure is Travis Rudolph (West Palm Beach, Fla./Cardinal Newman). So I'm going to start working on him.

"I know all the good players down here so I'm going to try to work them all to get them to Auburn and then also, anybody else they are going after, whether they live down here or not. I'm just going to be a big ambassador for the program and try to get the best talent for our class."

One of the few knocks on White has been his lack of ideal size. His ESPN scouting report, though, said he makes up for it with his accuracy and timing.

"[White is] a timing passer who carries the ball high and likes to get it out of his hand as quickly as possible," the scouting report said. "Has a quick release. Compensates with great timing and a live release, but he's undersized and has a very good, but not necessarily great arm."

For White, he believes his arm strength and ability to make plays will help him be a succesfful college quarterback.

"I think people underestimate my arm strength," White said. "I can throw the ball like 75 yards in the air. I'd say my accuracy and the ability to keep plays alive in the pocket is good. I'm also good at, not necessarily running, but just keeping plays alive and extending plays and looking downfield and making good throws on the run."

White recently admitted that Notre Dame was his childhood favorite team and he would love to play for the Fighting Irish. So if Notre Dame offered late, would White listen to their offer?

"No, sir," White said emphatically. "Auburn is the place I want to play. It's a great school. I think it's the best school in the country."

Auburn now has 10 commitments, including six listed in the ESPN 300. The Tigers currently have the No. 17 class in the country.
