Title: Barkley on TNT Pre-Game Show
Post by: AU_Tiger_2000 on February 14, 2013, 08:19:48 PM
Watching TNT pre-game show before the Heat beat the crap out of the Thunder tonight.  Charles comes out in his suit and tie wearing a bloody head bandage.  Kenny Smith looks at him and asks what happened.

"Well, being a first class Auburn guy I decided to go down to Tuscaloosa so that I could offer my congratulations to the national championship football team, but before I could these four guys jumped me.  I don't know what happened but when I woke up all my credit cards were gone."

I remember seeing some golf tourney vid in which Charles is playing and interacting with fans. It's some charity tourney with UA and AU fans. Charles is talking with this lady on the tee box and he's complimentary of UA in the exchange and said, "Alabama is a good school, I liked Alabama a lot. I almost went there.(pause) but my grades were too good."

He has gone from being a bad ambassador for AU in his NBA days to a great one today.

Always have liked Barkley, and though he says and does some stupid shit from time to time, he also says and does some funny ass shit like above that is totally harmless...unless you're a bammer.   You got high profile athletes/former athletes out there killing, raping, getting arrested for drugs, dui, robbery, getting caught on 'roids, and Charles, by some people is lumped in with these "bad boys" because he's outspoken, gambles (legally in Vegas) or a little rambunctious on the court?

He does say stupid shit but most of the time it is true.

Love him or hate him.... :awesome:

Well he did throw that guy out of a bar by way of plate glass window, but he's really cleaned up since then!

Yep, recall that, and also recall that the guy provoked the shit out of Barkley, and that Barkley made several attempts to avoid the confrontation to begin with.

A friend of mine with to HS with Charles and is good friends with him.  He says he's been with him in public numerous times where people tried to start shit with Charles completely out of nowhere.  Apparently just to see if they could get a reaction, and maybe collect some money from suing him.

I would say that's actually one of the lesser evils he has done publicly. The thing about Charles is that he does this stuff but he's so likable and funny, people can't hate him for long. You can't stay pissed at him. At least I can't.

Now I know what it feels like to listen to the radio or watch a local news report every day as an Alabama fan in the state of Alabama.

Well, you're doing it with an education, and teeth, so it's a little different.

Scarbinsky doesn't think it's funny.

Scarbinsky: Those Alabama muggings aren't funny, Charles Barkley

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - “Charles Barkley said something stupid” is the dog bites man of news stories.

It happens so often, most of the time, it’s not newsy enough to be a story.

Barkley doesn’t just cross the line between good taste and bad. He erased it a long time ago.

But even he should’ve been sensitive enough to not go where he went Thursday night.

The “Inside the NBA” broadcast on TNT opened with Barkley wearing a bandage wrapped around his head with what looked like blood on it. His colleague, Ernie Johnson Jr., asked about it.

Here’s the exchange:

Barkley: “Ernie, you’re not gonna believe this. Being the Auburn guy that I am, I wanted to be first class. I went down to the University of Alabama to congratulate the Crimson Tide on winning the BCS Championship - and I got mugged. I got mugged in Tuscaloosa, Ernie, and my credit cards are missing.”

Kenny Smith: “You’re just an Alabama hater, man. Why don’t you leave those kids alone?”

Barkley: “Oh, it’s my fault they’re mugging people.”

No, Charles. It’s your fault that you think two Alabama students getting attacked on campus by Alabama football players, getting kicked in the ribs and back and knocked unconscious, is funny.

The muggings happened overnight Sunday, and Eddie Williams, Tyler Hayes and Dennis Pettway have been charged for their parts in the crime. They've been suspended and barred from campus by the university pending a judicial review. They've been indefinitely suspended from the football team.

There are plenty of ways for Auburn guys to poke fun at Alabama, and vice versa, that are funny. This wasn’t one of them.

See?  As I said yesterday, I don't always agree with KS.  Here's the line that says it all:

"But even he should’ve been sensitive enough to not go where he went Thursday night."

This is just downright stupid.  Not because he's speaking ill of an Auburn man.  He's just looking for pub in the name of the almighty "Sensitivity".  Fuck that!  Barkely just says what everyone else is thinking.

And this, in a nutshell, tells you all about Scarbo,  he's a whiny ass liberal.

I imagine the student that got (Allegedly) falcon-punched, donkey-kicked and pistol-whipped by the players, is going to have to go into counseling now because of Barkely's needless insensitivity.  Bastard.

This is a BS slow news day column.  His death threat count was high for the previous day he needed to punch an aubie.

This story goes along with his column condemning Chizik for saying War "Damn" Eagle during his NC celebration speech.

Wait just a fucking minute.  The use of "damn" was unnecessary and highly insensitive on his part.  Countless dozens of people were offended and Chizik deserved the reprimand and should have been suspended, gang raped by 6 Apaches, forced to listen to rap music by 4 black dudes, made to sit by one of those stinky Muslim terrorists on a plane and required to take 12 hours of sensitivity training.  Skarbo was spot on.

Although the use of damn on national televsion was reprehensible, the continued wearing of Floyd from Mayberrys barber jacket on game day concerned me more. But that leather bomber jacket he wore after the BCS champ was all that and more. I dug it.

What he did was funny.

But, we all know that if a local sportscaster that is an Alabama fan said something similar after the Auburn players were arrested for robbery, certain people here would be circulating petitions and sending e-mails demanding that the sportscaster be fired.

Silly gump. We don't give a fuck about if the shoe were on the other foot. Why? Because Mullet U has about every built in advantage there is when it comes to the media in this state. But thanks for shitting on the board.

------------------------------------------

That Scarb article was just about as fucking stupid as him tweeting out distasteful it was for AU fans to sing reverse rammer jammer after the last b-ball game.

That's the difference. This shit is funny.

Alabama fans and the media don't do funny shit, they stand up on their uppity high horse and talk about what a shit university Auburn is and how they wouldn't tolerate shit like that "at the Univahsitah"...

You suppose you can see that? Mike Dubberly made the comment on TV ”Well, if I was a parent of a student-athlete I'd think twice before sending them to Auburn.” That was a couple days after the Trailer Park 4 were arrested, also it was after Coach Chizik kicked them off the team (note: not suspend them with or without pay until further notice like little Nicky did...and Skittles 3 crime was just as bad, they nearly killed the students...guess we can call it Growth Hormone Rage).

The Chuckster should bring Kenny Smith to Alabama for an extended visit, he has to wear Auburn gear.  When he gets ragged on then he'll learn to hate 'em too.
