I don't think the Chick-Fil-A is concerned with selling out the game. Haven't they done that 15 years in a row, no matter who the team is?
Bowls like the Music City, Liberty, etc are much more worried about selling out. Personally, and this is selfish, I'm pulling for the Liberty. I will be in Vegas during the Music City and Independence Bowls. I have no desire to go to Birmingham and I believe we are too far down the pecking order to be picked up by the Chik-Fil-A.

None of that over rides the importance of NOT going to Birmingham under ANY circumstances.
There is a lot of history behind this statement and a lot of CURRENT goings on also.
I have no desire to discuss it or "lay it out" on a message board.
Maybe times have changed (they haven't)........just suffice it to say that allowing the SEC Office to send this or any AU team to Birmingham will create a level of turmoil in the AU Ath. Dept/Admin/Family/Supporters that will make "jet-gate" and the Ramsey debacle look like a all expenses paid vacation to Disney World.

And just look at the City today: corrupt and bankrupt......and that did not just start with La-La.......that City has been "bad rice" for a long long time and at no point, that I am aware of, has the City ever done anything for the betterment of AU and in fact has deliberately done things to attempt to inflict damage on AU (with varying degrees of success). Why AU should support anything that is connected with B'ham is beyond me.

Again, nothing (but maybe one or two things) is top secret/superduper double secret/CIA top-secret info....in fact the very acrimonious and long running history between B'ham and AU is fairly well known, documented and on-going.

Outback has 3rd pick from the Big 10. If the BCS selects Iowa or Penn St as an at-large, we would definitely be playing Wisconsin. If the BCS does not select an at-large from the Big 10, we would be playing either Iowa or Penn St (whichever the Cap 1 does not select).
Edit: Fiesta is most likely going to take Iowa/Penn St. So we'll be playing Wisconsin if we do indeed get the invite.

Calm down friend. Don't soil yourself over it. My response was tongue in cheek. We are going to a non-BCS bowl regardless. Its just a matter of which one. Many still have bad feelings about Bham. EA has his feelings, you have yours. I'd rather go to Tampa, Nashville or Atlanta than ....Bham. Why? I just would. And I WILL continue to fuck myself. It feels great. :)

If I may be so bold as to interject a little different perspective on why and where a team might want to go...
Practice is one thing. VERY valuable. Old people and vendettas against a program or University etc. are another altogether. Below are the payouts form the 2008-2009 Bowls. It didn't transfer (Copy and paste)in an easy to read format but you get the picture when you see B'ham and Papa John paying $300K while the Outback shells out $3.1 mil.

For the lesser Bowls (750,000 or less), the school will generally spend all of the bowl money on the trip in the form of "expenses".
For the larger payouts, the Conference gets what is left over. I believe the SEC does have a "gentlemen's agreement" in place to prevent the BCS bowl participant from spending the entire 17 mil......ie....it used to be that a team could spend up to $2.5-3 mil on "expenses" per bowl game.
The players do get nicer things from the larger payout bowl games. The larger the payout, the more "wining and dining" the University can do for the "Official Traveling Party" (which will be a larger group of people staying for a longer period of time on the University's dime for the bigger bowls)
Again, if the arrangement has changed with the Office (I have not heard that it has), then this is incorrect.

For the larger payouts, the Conference gets what is left over. I believe the SEC does have a "gentlemen's agreement" in place to prevent the BCS bowl participant from spending the entire 17 mil......ie....it used to be that a team could spend up to $2.5-3 mil on "expenses" per bowl game.
The players do get nicer things from the larger payout bowl games. The larger the payout, the more "wining and dining" the University can do for the "Official Traveling Party" (which will be a larger group of people for the bigger bowls)
Again, if the arrangement has changed with the Office (I have not heard that it has), then this is incorrect.
