It's that time of year when coaches around the country start packing their bags, and sports agents start licking their chops. Gonna be another mighty fine Christmas for the Jimmy Sextons of the world. Suddenly, with the canning of our favorite....you know him, you love him, can't live without him....Dan Mullen...there are 3 very high profile jobs open right now. Four, if you count The U. Probably many more in the next week or two.
USC and LSU pulled the trigger early on, which I think was smart. They've had weeks to conduct their searches and make their contacts, instead of having to fight with everyone at the end of the season. Unless they're both total water heads, I imagine they'll be making announcements as soon as this rivalry weekend is over.
Mel Tucker was a hot name for LSU, at least as far as the rumor mill goes. I sure hope the ink dried on that new contract with the Spartans before THE Ohio State University went in dry. Looks like some of the shine came off that bald head. Same with Mario Crystal Ball. If he was the hot ticket, that should have cooled off a good bit when the Utes went dry up that shute.
So, who does Gusty Gaytah go after? Do they swing for the fences, because they sure haven't since Meyer left. And where does Mullen go? Does he join Urban in Jacksonville as OC?
How about Miami? I don't understand how you cannot be top 10 every freakin' year in one of the most talent rich areas in the country.
If Harbaugh gets pummeled again by tOSU, does Michigan finally part ways with him? I'll bet they do. And the Buckeyes looked scary good Saturday. Stroud and those receivers are going to be hell to stop for anybody.
On a local note, former Auburn OC, Chip Lindsey, was shown the door by Troy.
Any other hot seat takes?

You hear that, or an educated guess? Gotta figure that Okie State will be the big man on the block once OU leaves, right? Does that make their path to the playoff easier, or would an SEC runner up get in over an undefeated B12 champ?
-
Will Harsin bolt to UDub? If so, who would we realistically be in the hunt to get to replace him?

Just a guess. I wouldn't want to roll the dice on the corpse of that conference remaining viable. He's got plenty of T Boone's $$$, so maybe he'll stick around. Who knows?

Seriously doubt it. P-12 is even less relevant than the bones of the Big 12.

Florida is absolutely Moronic if they don't at least TRY to get Lane Kiffin.....what he could do with the recruiting and talent advantage Florida has - is downright scary.
I wouldn't want Hugh Freeze anywhere near my campus. Snake oil.

I wouldn't want Hugh near my corner of the mall parking lot nail salon/massage parlor either. Leave my Chinese friend along, Hugh!

Riley to USC
Lashlee to SMU
-
I don't know who LSU is after but if they don't drive the Brinks trucks to Oxford they are stupid! The only recruiting battles LSU has is against bammer. Lane can recruit and that state is always deep with talent plus the Texas haul they always get. He would have way more talent in Red Sticks than Oxford. I shutter to think of what he would do down there.

Gusty Gaytah inks Napier.
So the question, which we'll never know the answer to, is whether or not the decision for OU to join the SEC factored in to Riley's decision? He'll never say it did, but I'm thinking it had to. However, it may be as simple as not wanting to spend years in Oklahoma, as opposed to the bright lights, unbelievable weather, and all that goes with southern California.
I said way back that USC and LSU were smart to make their moves before the season was half over. They had a jump on everybody else in finding their coach. You know damn well Riley has had this job for weeks. But that begs the question(s), what's going on at LSU? Did they have Riley, Tucker or Franklin in their sights, and got jilted by both? Was Billy Napier ever an option, but Florida snatched him up quick? Are coaches turned off by what may be coming down the pike on that program?
Or, it could be simple in LSU's case as well. They may be waiting on the conference championships to be over next week, because it may be someone coaching in one of those games. Mario Crystal Ball?

Baylor has a game this Saturday. LSU probably has Aranda locked in already.

Scuttlebutt is that the LSU AD is chugging Jimbo's balls. Aranda is the easy choice. Lane is a wildcard, but would produce offense for a year or two.
I don't think LSU thinks Cristobal is a "splash".

If you believe Scott Stricklin at face value, he says Napier is the only candidate he talked to, interviewed or wanted...period. Little weird to me when you are Florida but whatever floats his boat.
-

Fisher had an outstanding record at FSU. 83-23. He had three 10 win seasons after the Natty, but things seemed to sour a little more each year. At A&M, he is 34-14 so far, and in my opinion, has done an extremely underwhelming job, given the resources he has at that school. I got the impression that A&M went full Saban with the guy and said, "Here's the keys. It's your program." But there's been no splash.
No doubt the guy is a good coach, but damn, he's so easy to hate.

Agree. It seems the Fighting Percy Harveys have a long history of Hires that make you think, well that wasn't a home run, but it might work. Ron Zook, Charlie Skrong, Will Muschamp, Jim McElwain, Dan Mullen. Now Billy Napier. On the surface, he looks solid. But like so many, including Harzinz, he'll have to make a huge adjustment from the Sun Belt to this league. Every little thing is magnified 1,000X.

Florida is probably the "Best" job in the conference. It has the fan support, stadium, money, location, recruiting, nattys.....It's Florida. I just think you have to interview a few big names before calling it a day. I absolutely think Lane jumps all over that job if asked. Napier may be fine but sheesh....

If Manny Diaz gets the axe, would the Lane Train take his talents to South Beach?
-
If Manny Diaz gets the axe, would the Lane Train take his talents to South Beach?
I doubt it.
If that is his only option, then I'd bet on him dragging Spencer Rattler through the portal and hanging his hat on Arch Manning's future.
-

Interesting. The only drawback may be salary. Damn, how crazy does that sound? He's making $4.5 right now. Diaz is making $3.1. Richt was barely making over $4 mil and could have gone as high as $5 mil. Regardless, I think Lane could make a good bit more staying in the SEC. I don't think The U has ever been committed to opening up that checkbook to take that program back to prominence. Somebody with knowledge of a source who is close to someone that has knowledge of the process, correct me if I'm wrong.

Uga is convinced arch is their successor to Stetson the frat boy the 5th and Jt and he’s theirs.

Bobo is out at AU.
This one is a head scratcher to me. Although the offense didn't wow anyone I felt like there was improvement behind a substandard OL.
-

Bad OL notwithstanding, I saw way too many head scratching series from this offense this season that culminated with a 4th and 1 pass instead of running the guy who would have gotten you 3 yards on that play. Watching the offense trying to fuck a greased football in the Iron Bowl had no bearing in my mind...but before that I could see that Bobo just wasn't the guy.
Of course now, we will probably see Harsin promote Kiesau to OC and make that splash bunt single.
-

I figured the non-AU SEC guys on the staff all have a short shelf-life on the staff. They're serving their purposes in making intros and showing the west coast crew the lay of the land. Once that is set up, they're gone for people that fit Harsin's style/scheme.
Bobo's offense showing improvement over last year is more an indictment of Gus than anything.

Brian Kelley to LSU? WTF
It's the kind of hire they needed to make. Established coach, projects stability. After they psycho circus ($1 to KISS) of the Orgeron experiment and the Yogi Berra goofiness of Les Miles' tenure putting a guy in place who brought that air of legitimacy and a business-like approach was the right thing.
Napier? Might be a good coach and has Louisiana ties but wouldn't bring that illusion of strength and maturity. Kiffin? Might be a good coach, but comes off like a mix of the worst of Miles and Orgeron. They supposedly wanted Fisher (who the hell knows why, maybe just to poke the A&M bear?) but he wasn't receptive.
So Kelly. The perception is right. But is he a good coach? That's really, really hard to say. His background doesn't show much really. Success at D2, a few decent years at Cincy and then most of his D1 career at Notre Dame. The problem with evaluating his record there is that the Farting Irish schedule typically reads like the menu from Sweet Sisters Cake Shop. Toledo, service academies, Ga Tech, a couple of shit-tastic Big10 teams, Duke, Boston College, Bowling Green...
Has Kelly ever led Notre Dame to a win over an SEC team? Yeah. A couple of times. Barely survived Vandy in 2018. Oddly enough, topped LSU in back-to-back bowl games in 2014 and 2015.
His baggage won't be mentioned, but he does have a history with the NCAA -- two entire years vacated including a playoff humiliation at the hands of Bammer. And there was the student who was killed in that tower incident.
He's probably a good enough coach. And as history has proven, even a moron could win it all at LSU (see Les Miles and Ed Orgeron).
A few days ago I thought LSU made a mistake getting rid of Orgeron. This hire has me questioning that. It elevates the program's stature for sure. But is Kelly a better "fit" for that program and it's uniqueness than Orgeron? Of that I'm not sure. I tend to think maybe not.
-
I think the Kelly hire is solid. So, I hate it.
I give Co Yaw Yaw credit for one thing. He realized, and openly said he did, that LSU had too many athletes to keep running the same, old vanilla ground and pound....play defense style of foosballz. He was right, and brought in Joe Fucking Brady to coach Joe Fucking Burrow and that bunch.
Problem was, when most of that staff bolted after the 2019 Natty, he hired shit the last two years. Yaw Yaw was only as good as the coaches around him. (True of most all coaches) But he made some horrible choices the last couple of years.

In his defense? He had roughly $20 million and a 28-year old blonde girlfriend.
Not giving a shit would have been easy.

Whutchu thank Allbarn gone do bout thet Awwfensive Cordinater coach, Paaaawwwl? I'll hang up an lissen'.
Just saw an article speculating and mentioning different possibilities for the vacant OC position. Of course, it's all just throwing names against the wall. Nobody knows what's really going on, or who Harvinz has in mind. I do like to think he had someone pretty much set to step in before he canned Bobo. That would be the smart thing, given that the early cruitin' dealio is just around the corner. You want to be able to sell the kids on what kind of offense they'll be running.
The article mentioned Mullen, of course. (Yeeeesh!!!) Also talked up Jeff Lebby at Ole Miss. The one name that was intriguing to me was Tom Herman. He's currently an analyst with Da' Bears. Anyway, not that any of them are in the mix. Again, just speculation. Anyone you'd like to see on The Planez?

Would seriously shock me at this point if it weren't Zak Hill. Not my number 1 pick but he's solid. Better than Matt Wells. But not quite the "get" that Lebby or Grimes or McGee would be.
-
Our fans are MO-rons. Unreal. Mullen is a cancerous fuck and he was the driving force behind the attempt to destroy us (and Cam) in 2010. I'd rather shut the program down than have him on campus. I also don't want his whore of a wife spreading her greasy, used up roast beef puss all over our players. Hard, hard, hard pass on Mullen. Fuck that guy. Forever. I'd rather have Fuck Joe Biden as OC than him.
Whoever Harsin hires, he needs to be on top of recruiting. Mullen's hunchback ass won't do that.

Yeah, Harbinger will probably go with his home boy in Hill. But I would love to land somebody who not only can get this offense in gear, but is well versed in the cruitin' practices of the SEC. We've got to get some Jimmy's and Joe's on campus.
-
I wish we would make a run at Jeff Grimes. He has done a pretty damn good job as OC in his career, seems to learn from his mistakes, can recruit and has some AU ties. My only issue with McGee is the fact that he has never called a play in his life. Now, if you want to hire him, make him Co-OC/Run game coordinator and hire Eric Kiesau as Co-OC/pass game coordinator then I would feel better. Also, would hiring McGee not give us two running backs coaches on staff? What about Caddy.
I would also love for us to hire Kellen Moore, but he's not leaving the Wowboy's to coach at AU. I don't care how close him and Corch Harborlights ($1 to Snaggs) are.

I want Mullen about as far away from our campus as Hugh Freeze.....VERY FAR.
No Auburn fan should want that asshat anywhere near our sideline or team. Hell to the NO. He's a horrible recruiter and horrible person. There is a reason only Todd Grantham would agree to be his DC. Players hate him. No effing thanks.

Kellen Moore would be quite a pull for sure. He's done wonders with Dak since they gave Jason Garrett the boot. Noticeable difference but not sure how much he wants or needs to go back to the college game. He seems like a bonafide pro coach and a damn good one. Would be kind of a step down for him to go leave for the same position from an NFL team.
McGee would be worth it just for recruiting. He's been in the best in the country the last 3 years. He would also have to be OC with a lot of Harsin's input in planning and Carnell would be purely RB coach.
Jeff Grimes would be hella good too. The lines he has built here were some of the best we've ever had. Just nuts. Its a lot of what defined our success in those great years - 2010 and 2013. Grimes may be the best hire Chizik ever made. He's also extremely well liked and respected by other coaches and players. Baylors O and specifically, rushing attack, are rockin n rollin right now.
-
Just heard that we can add Dameyune Craig's name to the "Hot Board" for OC. Maybe we will see Kiesau and DC be Co-OC's and let Craig work with the WR's? We need someone like Kiesau if we are going to hire a Craig or McGee as OC to show them the ropes on play calling.

This. Although there was some turbulence. Didn’t he have a cup of coffee with us under Gus and then go to LSU?
He made some anti AU comments or something. That was before my brain was damaged.
Regardless, I trust Coach Carson’s judgment.

I done heard tonight that Craig burned bridges and pissed too many folks off to even get an interview. That his name being tossed around is bullshit.
And when I hear stuff, it comes from the upper echelon sources. Bank it.

I think two wrenches have been thrown into the process:
1. Joe Bradys suddenly availability.
2. Zak Hill's issues with the NCAA at ASU. Its apparently a bigger issue than anyone knew. McGlynn may very well not go for this and go to the side of caution here. No one knows but that's the word on da skreets.
