Title: Big East Media Days this week!!!
Post by: AWK on July 28, 2008, 10:32:08 AM
I know...who gives a shit, but I found this side comment really interesting.

Quote
How much will Pat White throw the football this season?

Last year, White and departed tailback Steve Slaton were like rock stars here. ESPN TV cameras followed them around Newport for three days. Slaton left for the NFL, but White might have an even bigger role with the Mountaineers this season. New coach Bill Stewart wants his quarterback to throw more and run less often. Will that plan work?

So, that made me think...Can White transform into a semi-pocket passer and have the success that WVU has had over the past few years?  Will Slaton be missed more than expected?  What about Noel Devine? (backup RB)  What do you think?

I think WVU is going to miss Slaton a lot more than they realize.  I also think that White is a sub-par passer.

Auburn's D is going to tee off on them.

I tend to agree.  Devine is far from an every down back, and unless that porch with arms they had at FB last year is back, they will not have a backfield that is conducive for running Rod's version of the spread anyway.
Pat White is a decent passer when he has the element of surprise in his favor, but if he had to drop back consistently, faaaagetaboutit.

It will be interesting to see White v. Burns.

I figure we will feed White to Marks and Devine to Blackmon
