Title: Who should replace Corso?
Post by: Townhallsavoy on December 10, 2010, 11:30:00 AM
If Corso is retiring...

1.  Houston Nutt - Let's be honest.  He's not going to turn Ole Miss around.  He's not going to get hired at another big time program.  He has a crazy personality much like Corso, and I think he would be willing to implement a new gimmick (see Corso's mascot head routine) to make the show entertaining.

2.  Mike Leach - He wants to get back into coaching, but if he can't find a job after being fired from TTech, he could be a good replacement.  He wouldn't have the charm or the showmanship of Corso, but he would be brutally honest - a characteristic Gameday severely lacks.

3.  Barry Alvarez - A legendary coach with tremendous success at Wisconsin.  Alvarez could provide a real X's and O's feature to the show.  His insight on matchups would be highly respected, and he wouldn't (assumingly) buy into the ESPN propaganda aspect of the show.

Who should not be considered:

1.  Desmond Howard - No racist: The guy talks too slow and my first thought every time he speaks is "idget."  I think Howard is lost most of the time on the set, and it seems like they are grooming him to become the next big talking head on the set.  Much like Emmit Smith, his gig isn't TV.

2.  Mark May - Only because Mark May is WAY too serious all of the time.  He would be a good asset on the show, and I honestly like May's opinions.  He would also give the show the minority aspect it requires.  The biggest problem with May, though, is he's boring.  Simply put, he doesn't have any personality to contribute to the entertainment value of the show - which is the show's purpose.

3.  Craig James - Because he's a douchebag rich boy prick, and I hate the punk.

Leach is going to have a hard time getting hired not because he's crazier than a sprayed cockroach, but because he's suing ESPN/James.

You don't hire the guy that is angering the dominant force in sports "news".

I, again being the youngster that I am, did not realize that Herbie took Craig James's spot, while Corso and Fowler have been in the same spot since the show started.

Wonder why that happened, since James is still working at ESPN?

Speaking of, I've got to disagree with your takes on James and May. They're both about as pro-Auburn as ESPN gets.

Once again this speaks to your age or lack there of.

James left ESPN to go to CBS before gameday really tookoff. He moved to ABC in the early 2000's.

One must also remember that ESPN was not always owned by ABC/Disney.

We already have something in common, she likes to stare at her own ass as much as I like to stare at her ass.

It was meant to be.

It's not your age because I remember Gameday when it was in the studio and James was a host.  I remember when Herbie took over.  You probably don't remember because you didn't care about college football and were too busy worrying about the upcoming NBA season.

I always had him pegged for a Rodman fan myself.

This is pretty much the truth.

Didn't give much of a shit about college football until high school, which puts us at about 1997. Herbie started in 1996. Even then, I wasn't obsessed to the point that I had to watch Game Day until college, which puts us at 2001.

I had the entire set of 1990-91 Hoops basketball cards.

Whoa...Snaggle with a movie quote.

Sometimes when you win, you really lose, and sometimes when you lose, you really win, and sometimes when you win or lose, you actually tie, and sometimes when you tie, you actually win or lose. Winning or losing is all one organic mechanism, from which one extracts what one needs.

Dr. Lou....   Only because the travel coupled with probability of him not being able to keep up with his medicines due to constantly being busy would surely punch his last ticket.   Fingers are crossed.   :bc: is waiting!
