Title: No Chatter About Housing IU?
Post by: wesfau2 on December 11, 2023, 08:54:11 AM
Put a 104 on 'em and whomped 'em by about 30.  It was a beautiful display of roundball where almost everygoddamnedthing went correctly for the good guys.

With the way KD plays in ATL, Imma make a motion that we move all rounds of the tourney to Atlanta.

Gave it some thought only the superstitious part of me knows better than to chirp. All I will say is that it was as good a performance as you could ask for on any court against any opponent.

Sadly it did not start out that way. It took a while to finally get the lead. Then we broke their back. But that first 15 mins was a dogfight.

Would have never thought we could put up 104 and Broome only score 2  :jaw:

I had a prior engagement and was only able to watch a portion of the game.  When I had to leave, Indiana had hit eleventy seven straight threes and led 22-10.

I was attending a Christmas concert, so I snuck out to "get snacks" and check my phone to see how bad we had gotten pounded.  About six minutes remained in the third at that point.

I may never watch again.

So by all indications, if we are hitting threes we are at our peak level playing transition basketball while also being more physical than our opponent.
Interesting.

So Broome's offensive output being more suited to a half court offense would likely fall off some while his defense and rebounding prowess might not fluctuate much at all.

You are correct.  6 something second half.  My brain is failing.

No your brain is as sharp as ever.
We live in a "surrealist" existence and we are victims of the Mandela Effect.

Men's college basketball officially changed to two halves in 1954 but I distinctly remember playing organized basketball for four quarters like the
girls as far back and even during my freshman year in 1977.

But yeah we had our normal miserable start, falling behind in the first quarter by 12. We then raced to a lead winning both halves comfortably.
Surreal!

Wait Snags is older than you?? He tells fond stories of his time as a Junior on the Plains and how they got to miss a week of school when JFK got shot.

Do high schools in Alabama play quarters?  Men's college basketball is the only league I know of that doesn't do quarters.

In Illinois, the high schools started this year to do away with shooting one and one at 7 team fouls, and moved to fouls resetting every quarter, and on the 5th team foul, you just shoot two.  This is for both boys and girls.

Unless they've changed this year, HS basketball is still on quarters in Alabama. Don't know about the fouls, but I like that system better.

My school played a form of the 4 corners stall. We couldn't score so we just fouled the opposition to victory.
I was in a walking boot before the season began and only made the team by virtue of playing football. We sucked.

I was a stud on the court through the 9th grade.  Then, I got to high school, and found out those black kids were faster than me, could jump higher, dribble better and shoot better than me.

Then I became a stud in City Rec League.

I was not anything on the court, but excelled at backyard ball.  I thought I had the moves.  Decided to try out for varsity in 9th grade.  At the time we had two kids who ended up playing (and starting) D1 ball.  After watching pretty much every shot I took get swatted into the top row of the bleachers; after watching those two glide past my clumsy defensive efforts and rain chocolate thunder on the rim,  I decided to concentrate my efforts on baseball.  I wish my high school had a golf team, though, that's what I would have preferred.

Once upon a time, I was a great 3 point shooter.  I was decently fast for a white kid, too.  Every other facet of basketball... I sucked Hugh Janus.  I also suck Don Keedik at golf, but that is something I have interest in practicing to get good at one of these days.

Baseball and Football were my calling until the parents yanked me out of public school.  Not sure that I would've gone anywhere in either sport, but the optimist in me says I would have.

Coach woulda put me in fourth quarter, we would've been state champions. No doubt. No doubt in my mind.

The NFHS moved to five fouls = two shots for a quarter this year to decrease foul shot rebounding injuries.  I like it as an official.

Side note, what part of the wasteland of Illinois are you frequenting these days?  I was in south Chicagoland the past couple years…

That broadcast was unbearable. Not sure who thought that was a good idea. It was like watching public access TV.

Nutshell version: The Next Round guys on 1/3 of the screen all night talking about Huntsville and interviewing various uninteresting people no one has ever heard of, while the game is taking place on the other 2/3 of the screen with very little commentary. It was like a podcast was going on DURING the game. Not sure who thought it was cool to have Dunaway and Taylor do this on ESPN+.

2 interesting notes from this weekend...
1. The by God Kansas Jayhawks (#2 in the nation) had to make a furious comeback to beat Indiana by 4.
2. The unranked Auburn Tigers handled that bidness once again, beating LeBron and company.

Kenpom and the computers love us.

The human polls HATE us.

Pretty obvious this is a good team that remains unranked due to a disdain by many HUMANS for Bruce.

Us against the world. F em.
