Title: Spencer Region Commits To...Auburn?!
Post by: RWS on February 06, 2010, 01:40:52 PM
Yep. He announced a PC for Friday to announce his commitment after receiving an Alabama offer. Then he postponed it for a month. Then he said its back on for Saturday. He committed to Alabama, and gave the following quotes before his commitment/switch:

Quote
"I am going to Alabama," Region told Scout.com before the announcement. "My family knew that's where I wanted to go. They thought it was a good idea. Coach (Nick) Saban said to commit if I wanted to. Coach Saban was really excited. He said he has big plans for me."

"This is a dream come true," he told Scout.com before the announcement. "Ever since I was little I have always wanted to run out of the tunnel at Bryant Denny."

After Alabama's junior day, he even said it was his dream to run out of the tunnel at BDS. Weird much? A few additional notes:

Region told reporters a few minutes ago that he changed his mind at 10:30 this morning.

Said Auburn felt more like family and he wanted to play in more of a family environment.

Would have loved to have had you, but more power to you. Good luck except against Alabama. Sounds kinda fishy, and totally scripted if you ask me.

Here's why he switched over to the "Good Side":

Quote
"It just felt like they were being vultures because they knew it was always his dream to play there, but that really didn't sit well with Spencer."
...
... not be locked into a box like the way Alabama was trying to do."

Wow.

Just wow.

Chizik just stepped outside his office and said (for the 2nd year in a row): "WASSUP MOTHERFUCKAS?  WHERE THE WHITE BITCHES AT?"

LOL, Yup....then he stepped on Coach Sheban's face with a hobnail boot and broke his nose.

Time for little Sheban to move on....Remember the commitment rambling?  So if Sheban continues to "recruit" Spencer Region, then everyone with a conscious will see that he's an absolute fuckin' liar.  Also, wanna know the best part?  Mr. Spencer Region will get to see the bammer fanbase for what they truely are...which will definitely be a positive.  Now, it's a long way to Feb. 3rd, 2011 and Auburn will have to fight to keep him...but, they won't have to fight SPuat, because little Sheban has already made that perfectly clear with his little "commitment speech.

I don't blame him. The kid straight up gave Bone quotes to use for his committed to Alabama story, and told him specifically to post the story at noon before he took the stage. Bone did what the kid asked him to do, and Region made him look like an idiot. I know you are used to being made to look like an idiot, but if you were in Andrew Bone's shoes, how would you feel about that on a professional level? If the same exact situation happened with Shon Coleman, and he switched to Alabama as he was on stage, after telling any media that would listen he is Bama bound, even 5 minutes before he took stage, you would be crying foul and you know it.

Region did have an Alabama offer today. I doubt he will tomorrow. At least, I hope he doesn't. I'm fine with kids doing alot of things with their commitment announcement. They are kids. But this? Total setup, from start to finish. I don't mind losing a kid to Auburn either. But this? Ridiculous.

So, when you stated that this was "totally scripted" are you saying that Spencer Region played Andrew Bone and Coach Sheban like a fiddle?  Or, are you saying that it's being scripted, so that before Feb. 3rd 2011 if he switches back over to the "Dark Side", the bammer mediots will run a story on how Coach Sheban Stole one away from Auburn?

As for your little senario?  I wouldn't be crying foul if it had happened like you posted.  Because, he would've been telling every bammer mediots, that would listen, that he is bammer bound....So, why would I cry foul if he switched to SPuat as he was on stage?

Like a fiddle.

And you know exactly what I'm talking about with the same situation thing. You're not smart, so don't try and act it. If 5 minutes before Coleman told AuburnSports, etc, to run his commitment to AU story and gave all kinds of AU quotes and said he was going to Auburn, then walked up there and committed to Alabama, you wouldn't be able to type out "they paid him!" fast enough. You're very very predictable.

If that had happened, then yeah, I'd be pissed.  As y'all should be, because Auburn just stole another "committed" prospect away from the Great Sheban.  I'm a lot smarter than you think.  I knew what you were trying say, but I decided to throw my hook out there to see if it'd snag you....and it did, lol.  BTW, I wouldn't post anything about him being "paid", unless da skreets inform me of it.  Similar to the Bobbie Massie situation, what's really funny is, y'all got outbid by Ole Miss.

This is all too much awesome for me to handle.

This kid is a legend, as far as I'm concerned.

The two animated gifs in this thread made me nearly piss myself with laughter.

It'd be different too if it weren't for the fact that this kid was a lifelong bammer. Obviously, Saban took that for granted and thought he could be his typical dickheaded self and have kids "walk on broken glass" to play for the Tahd.

Spencer Regions said "Fuck you, asshole."

There is a problem on the plains, this young man grew up an Alabama fan, his entire family is al about The Crimson Tide. He transferred from Brewer HS where he grew up to Cullman HS something fishy about that as well. Now in a matter of minutes he changes his mind from his dream opportunity to committ to a 2nd tier SEC team away from the opportunity of his life, a chance to play for the team that just won the National Championship. This may be the commitment that gets some attention from the NCAA. There is no logical reason for a lifelong Alabama fan to turn his back on the school that he was a fan of all his life to their biggest rival. If the barn fans would use a liitle common sense they should see a problem that might blow the roof of the other major committs they got this year.

I can't wait to hear what Shithead has to say about this one.  I'm guessing that Fuckhead will be doing what he does best....make shit up, with the help of Shithead.

I'm not pissed about AU landing him. As I've said before, I'm not going to get upset about a 17 year old kid doing what he thinks is best for his career. Its going to shape the rest of his life, not mine. You're a moron to get mad at a recruit for his decision. But to "commit", knowing damn good and well you are intentionally stringing everybody along, right up until the second you make your announcement? Thats some bullshit. Had a recruit that had been singing the praises of AU done the EXACT same thing and switched from AU to UA at the last second, after he had told media outlets right before his commitment that he is AU bound and to post stories, you would have all kinds of conspiracy theories, and you damn well know it. And you wonder why folks like Andrew Bone aren't too happy with Region.

True. Stop selling family. Stop selling the University. Stop selling the great atmosphere we have. Sell the most important thing: The right name of Auburn University. If they don't get the right name, they shouldn't be allowed to play...

Yeah....because Auburn University was recruiting them.  If there is any video out there of them saying The University of Auburn as being one of their choices, then I'll change my statement to "just about every recruit".  But, since I don't remember ever hearing them say The University of Auburn, my statement stands true.  The University of Auburn gets who they want...and all of Coach Sheban's recruits belong to The University of Auburn, if they're wanted.

Didn't even imply that. How's your jump to conclusions mat? You are a fucking moron for implying such. You think any other "major" school puts up with that shit? Hell no. Just because we are Auburn doesn't mean we have to take it in the ass. Stop bending over and start acting like we matter - matter enough to get the name right. Pretty much everybody is. His mother was wearing Alabama gear, for crying out loud. Again, I don't mind AU beating Alabama out for a recruit. I certainly don't mind AU winning a hard fought battle for a recruit, i.e., Ladarius Owens. Sure, he put off his commitment I think twice, but he handled his entire recruitment very well. No games, no playing with people. Handled things with the utmost class and respect. Region? Not so much.

Hmmm.

I think he brings up an interesting athletics vs. academics point.  I know for a fact that there are many people at Auburn (and every college) who don't give the first damn about football at all.  There are many who hate what it represents, hate the attention it brings and are disgusted that borderline students are celebrated while those who excel in their classwork often toil in relative anonymity.

For that segment of the population, the fact that the kid says the name of the school correctly is more important than his 40 time.

These kids are hardly the only ones making this error, though.  the ESPN talking heads, particularly that doof Holtz, often do it.

Bullshit Kaos and ou know it.

How many "academic" juniors in high school that applied to Auburn would make the same mistake?

Look...do I like it? Nope. Do I find fault in this and blame fucking Chizik, which is what Sensi did...HELL NO! That is dumb. Why is it the coach's fault to educate the kids on the proper name BEFORE the kid committs. This is a stupid fucking arguement...

MISSED THE POINT.   No bullshit at all.  Unless you're telling me that there are NO professors at Auburn who have an agenda against the football program.  Unless you're telling me that it's bullshit that some of the members of that academic fraternity are jealous of the attention football gets while their own programs languish.

Do I care some of the the kids don't say it right?  Nope.  Merely said that there is a segment of academia who would, and would do so vehemently.

Didn't disagree with Prowler and didn't agree with Sensi.  Only provided a different track.

Chizad, you are so quick to put on Sancho's suit that you don't bother to even read what's written.  Your comprehension the last few days has been absolutely abysmal.

Apples and oranges Kaos...and you know this shit.

There are segments of academia who can't stand "the brutal game of football with players acting like a bunch of savages..."

Don't even compare the two...

GOD FUCKING BLESS, has everybody around this place gone fucking psycho?  What the fuck are you even talking about?  I can't make shit for sense out of either of your replies.  It's like they jumped in from some other thread or something.

I thought it was interesting that Sensible/Cynical's comment could be cross referenced with the attitude some portions of academia has with sports in general.

I didn't say one fucking motherfucking sonofabitching thing about whether recruiting was positive or negative, Prowler. Christ almighty.

I said I personally didn't care if the kid called it Hung Jao Din as long as he wanted to be a part of what we have at Auburn.  I noted that many people who should know better at ESPN still do it.

Ya'll are fucking NUTS.  So quick to pull the trigger and make the assumption that I was bashing on Prowler or what the fuck ever that you're not even paying attention.

I took this sentence:

Quote
yes, it does mean something to a lot of people who don't give a damn about football.

I considered the stuff that sociology doofus tried to dig up.  I considered the interactions I've had with college administrators and other officials -- people who DON'T give a damn about sports.  I thought about the academics vs. athletics debates I've seen around in various media.  And I could see where there would be a segment of the population for which this kind of thing would be a big deal.  I think that's already been proven at Auburn.

That's not badgering Prowler.  It's not taking anybody's fucking side.  It's not apples, oranges, plums or persimmons.

It's making a fucking observation.

Making mountains out of molehills, guys... what about this basic, blessedly simple explanation??

These kids go through recruitment talking about "Auburn University" - their mail comes from "Auburn University" - their new gear comes from "Auburn University".  I doubt they don't know the name of the school.  But now they are playing the up to media hype, dragging out the suspense, right?

Most colleges are The University of... Miami, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky (insert your preference here).

Our school is Auburn University.  The first word is kind of a giveaway - not much of a chance for a fan of The University of __________ to gets his hopes up for one brief shining moment before they are crushed to bits when they hear the word Auburn...

That is the take I have had on this from the get-go...  give them the benefit of the doubt, for Pete's sake, and I don't even know Pete...

Whatever, Kevin. You're Mr. Sensible's Sancho.

He made a ridiculous stretch to find a negative in Auburn recruiting, WarEagle!!! called it out as such, Prowler added to that, and you had to pretend as if he made a valid point. I make one comment about what a stretch that was and you fly off the hinges at me again. WarEagle!!! was more combative in this thread, but now since you're on a campaign to try to convince everyone that I'm a blathering dumbass, you target me. You did it to Prowler & Chopper, and now you're after me. It won't work.

Fair enough. But it is apples and oranges. My point is this, how many high school juniors, that just want to be a student at Auburn and not part of the football program, would make the same mistake? I would say roughly the same amount of students getting offered scholarships to play ball. Do you expect these kids to know about Haley Center,Samford Hall or Foy? No. Because they haven't experienced any of that yet. Not all these kids grew up worshipping Auburn University like we did and getting to be a part of the Auburn family at an early age.

Now, if in 6 years this dude gets drafted in the first round, and during an interview says, "I would like to thank The University of Auburn...", then yes, I have a much bigger problem with this.

Like I said though, the apples and oranges comparison was to the bullshit "academia" part of the discussion that doesn't even need to be brought into this thread. Those same "academia" people will hate football and anything associated with it regardless if every recruit says Auburn University from here on out...

I wasn't agreeing with anything, only recognizing that there probably IS a segment of the Auburn population -- professors and other academicians -- who would care more about how the kid said the name of the school than whether he could play ball or not.

You're right, those same people will hate everything associated with athletics no matter what, but that isn't the issue.  The guy said there were people who would care.  And there are.  The athletics vs. academics debate has existed for decades.  It's nothing new.  It's also fair to point out that those who fall on the academic side are far more likely to take umbrage with the use of "University of Auburn" than non-academicians, is it not?

That wasn't disagreeing with Prowler, it wasn't defending Sensi.  Chizad's fucking desperation to score has rendered him impotent at this point.  How he and his pal Prowler could possibly derive some "you think recruiting sucks" position from merely noting that the segment of population does exist is pretty crazy.

That one is funny, but if you're going to make it a regular thing, you're going to have to step up your game. Out of all of the ones that have been made, that one doesn't even make the top 3. You need to borrow some from Godfather.

I know, but I'm not a photo-shopper....I did that on Microsoft Paint, a program that's been the same since like 1995.  It was the best I could do.  I actually typed all that info on myself, just changing fonts and font color.  The little glasses were the only thing I could cut and paste, and even then it was only one....I had to put the four in a row.  Considering what I was working with (Paint), I'm okay with how it turned out.

I'm also going to start using this one for you when you say good things about Saban....
