Title: What if...? Billey Joe Johnson
Post by: GH2001 on January 31, 2010, 08:18:00 PM
This story happened in Dec 2008, a little over a year ago.

Billey Joe Johnson was a Junior RB from Mississippi and one of the TOP 5-7 RB prospects in the nation for the c/o 2010. Since he was a Junior and the season had just ended, I don't think Rivals had even attached stars to him yet, but from the looks of it and hearing the experts talk about the kid, he most likely would have been a 4 star, and a high 4 star at that. Personally - I liked his style. He was also a "country boy" at heart who got up early before school to hunt at 4 am.

This kid was ready to commit to Auburn. He would have been part of the class we are putting together at the moment. The class would have been even more dynamic. But thats just Football. This kid lost his life tragically and every time I think about this story I think what might have been. There is still a lot of controversy that surrounds his death and no one really seems to know 100% what really happened. Tragic indeed.  RIP - BJJ

Wow. That's a crazy story.

There is definitely some fishiness surrounding it.

Whats eery is how it referenced how he would tell folks he was going to sign with Auburn in Feb 2010 - which is about 2 hours away. This dude was the real deal.

I personally dont think he killed himself.

Yeah.  He did.  Momentary lapse of reason, panic set in.

Unfortunately, kids just do crazy things. When I was in HS, a close friend of mine hung herself in her closet because her parents told her she couldn't go out that weekend because she had an important project due on Monday.

I don't doubt he was in a state of mind to kill himself. The part that doesn't match up is the logistics of how he would have had to get out, get the gun, get back in, point it at himself across the seat, and then pull the trigger. It just seems more to it. Do you have a shotgun? Not quite as easy to commit suicide with a 12 gauge as compared to a .38. Unless that kid has some really long ass arms.
