Title: Why so quite today?
Post by: ssgaufan on February 03, 2009, 02:10:50 PM
I thought we were going to find out about a couple of prospects today.  What happened?  Are they contacting other colleges and telling them that they are committing there or what?

I've been checking, but the majority of the "reporters" on the other sites are pretty quiet today.  A few "quickies" this morning to get some info out about tomorrow, but not much else.

I think there's one offer, and therefore possible commit possible for later tonight for a certain DB (4* DB at that).  Other than that, I believe most news is pretty much on hold till around 9ish tomorrow a.m..

The quiet before the storm.  Tomorrow will no doubt bring some Fire Chizik's out if we don't land a top 10 class.

Are you talking about the kid that Roof was recruiting for the Golden Gophers?

Do you have insider info that you'd like to expound on?

Or you're saying that more people will want to fire chizik if we don't land a top 10 class. Gotcha.

Yes.  Taikwon Paige  (He's JUCO and would have 3 years to play 2 if offered and commits)

You are going to hear people crying either way.  I think that CGC and his staff have done a great job considering the amount of time they've had to do it in.  When Tubbs walked out the door I was really expecting this years class to suck, so a top twenty class would be great IMO.

Everything that I have read on him, says that he will commit as soon as he gets an offer from AU.   :vn:

He has been directly quoted saying that very thing. You are correct.

What was our recruiting ranking last year?

What was our recruiting ranking last year?

Finished at #18 per Scout in 2008.   Finished at #20 per Rivals.

So if we stay at #15 it is a definate upgrade?

Yes, even though we dropped to #16 at some point today.  Rankings today probably don't mean much.  However, you're point is absolutely correct.

All I'm asking is that you quantify it.

Where was the class before the 10 or so who were committed left?

Who was added to replace those?  And please don't give me hoopla about "potential" or "rough diamonds."

Don't just say "I think" tell me WHY.

That isn't too much to ask is it?

We were ranked #22 when Tuberville left.  Nothing else can be proven.  He didn't close the class, and he wasn't responsible for seeing any of it through.

I wouldn't take the bait ss...

I don't have a list of those that de committed (I don't remember it being 10 though) but Chiz has added the following:

Demond Washington ***** CB/RB
Daren Bates**S
Anthony Gulley**WR
Tyrik Rollison****QB
Nosa Equae**DT
Jamar Travis***DT
Travante Stallworth***WR
Clint Mosely**QB
John Sullen**OT
Izauea Lanier**WR
Ontarrio McCaleb****RB (he is a resign but committed Post Chiz)

Not too shabby considering they came in late on all of these.  If we get a couple of the high star late deciders, I think even the almighty Kaos should be impressed.

I'm not saying that the old staff couldn't have pulled off a top twenty or fifteen class.  All I'm saying is that under the circumstances I thought that this class would suck donkey balls, and that I am pleased with this class now.

Side note, I'll take Rollison over Cotten any day, and the one big TE Lutzensomethingoranother stuck with us after the old staff left.

That's all I was trying to get across.

Phillip Marshall or somebody wrote an article and said it was 10.  I didn't read it, just saw the headline so I don't know who they were either.

And you are so quick to slam everyone for not doing their research?

Yup, it's okay for Kaos to talk outta his ass.....he invented it.

Here's the Ten that Kaos is talking about:

Ray Cotton, QB, Meade-Fort Meade, Md.: Still lists Ole Miss, Southern Mississippi and Kansas State. Will announce on signing day, but Ole Miss is thought to be his choice.

Jamie Collins, ATH, 6-3, 210, Franklin-Meadville, Miss.: Committed to Southern Mississippi.

LaDarius Perkins, RB, 5-10, 195, St. Joseph-Greenville, Miss.: Committed to Mississippi State. (loss)

Rodney Scott, RB, 5-10, 195, Dixie County-Cross City, Fla.: Committed to Ole Miss.

Steven Jacques, OL, 6-4, 280, South Broward-Hollywood, Fla.: Committed to South Florida. (loss)

Aaron Moore, OL, 6-5, 250, Centennial-Frisco, Texas: Committed to Iowa State.

Montez Robinson, DE, 6-4, 230, Avon, Ind.: Commited to Georgia. (loss)

Cameron Kenney, WR, 6-2, 195, Garden City (Kan.) Community College: Committed to Oklahoma. (loss)

Jonathan Atchison, LB, 6-3, 215, Douglass-Atlanta: Committed to Alabama. (loss)

David Conner, S, 5-11, 190, South Panola-Batesville, Miss.: Committed to UAB.

Auburn had 10 prospects de-commit, then 9 committed elsewhere.  But of those 10, I'd only consider 5 of them as losses.

I knew it was ten.  All I asked is for those who are stroking the Chizcock to be factual and not a bunch of celebratory "I feel" crap.

Word is that he has narrowed it down to USM, Ole Miss and Kansas State.  I think Ole Miss is full...
