Title: What about da Hawks?
Post by: WiregrassTiger on January 08, 2015, 09:53:45 AM
I knew that they had been winning but even as a passive Hawks fan through the years, I had no idea at the level. They are srsly winning, like at franchise record pace. And have folks like Doc Rivers saying they are possibly the best team in the league.

Maybe yous guys were aware but I wasn't. I don't catch sportscenter every single night but I'm listening to sports radio, reading on the interwebs and watching at least some sports related show almost every night. My point is, the focus is always on the spotlight teams. I always hear about the same ones: Lakers, whoever Lebron is playing for this week, Bulls, etc. But Hawks, Memphis and others go largely unnoticed.

Would love for the Hawks to make a run and grab a title before Dominique and Tree get too old to be legitimate contenders. They are the only names that I know on the current roster.

I'm afraid to watch them. Every time they start doing well and I get involved, they fall flat on their face.

Then my self esteem goes down because I think its me.

And I don't like the Omni...

Not much NBA talk around here. I'm one of the few that actually follows it. And yes, the Hawks have been on a roll for a while.  I believe they're 27-8.  The thing is, they haven't been beating up on the cellar dwellers.  Beat Memphis last night, which is one of the better teams in the league.  Skrong.  Just got back from L.A. where they whipped the Clip.  Have beaten Cleveland twice. Once with LeBron and once without.

I looked at the roster before the season and thought I may not watch a game.  Same old group of cast-offs.  The two keys are Al Horford is finally healthy and playing every night and Jeff Teague.  If he isn't an All Star this year, something is wrong.  This guy is fun to watch.  Now that we've given them some love, they'll go on a 10 game losing streak.  But so far, they've been darn skippy.

Apparently, if you make a racially insensitive remark or send an insensitive email,  you can sell your share of an NBA team for millions or a billion more than it's worth.

If I owned part of a team, I'd be abundantly doling out the "my nurra's" right now.

"How's it going W.T."

"Fine, my nurra, how y'all doing?"

Not there anymore.  (Sad face)  Funny though.  I've had two rice bowls from there this week.  Asian glazed chicken.  Darn good stuff.  Some people even do Iron Man Triathlons after a good rice bowl.

Werd.  But, you have to admit it's been a long, long time since the Squawks have been this good for a stretch like this. Just enjoying it while it lasts. The Hawks are the perennial middle of the road team.  35-45 wins every year.  Make the playoffs about half the time.  Always start with a late first round pick in the draft. Will never get any better or any worse.

I'll enjoy it while it goes.  They really are a good TEAM.  Not really any single player going off for 40 points a game, just a good team.  I really think they have a shot to do something this year, but we'll see.  They have some pretty good games coming up too.

Hawks on game 3 of a 4 game road trip. Beat Toronto, the leaders in their division by 21.  Hawks are 32-8 with one game to go until the half way point.  In Sheecargo to face Derrick Rose and teh Bullz tomorrow night.  Tough team and tough place to play but whatever happens...33-8 or 32-9 at mid season....when have the Hawks ever been in this position?

Probably peaking way too early but hey, just enjoying a run right now.

Yes.  The JailBlazers are having another great season...much like last season until part way through January they decided to play shitty. Got cold.  Finished 5th in the much stronger Western Conference.

As an Atlantan native ...well only from the waist down...I'm claiming both teams.

Blazers vs Hawks in the Finals.

You've got to be real good to win 60 in either league.  To their credit, they've beaten Utah (2), Denver, Houston, Dallas, Portland and L.A. Clippers (2).

They did lose to Swaggy P and the lowly Lakers early on.

Except they have beaten all comers. Not just east teams. Team ball - it's the new model. Spurs did it first.

No question.  They're playing as good or probably better team ball than anyone else.  Plus, it doesn't hurt that Jeff Teague is really coming into his own at the point and playing at an All Star level.  And they have Al Horford back and finally healthy for a whole season....so far.  Very solid center/power forward that can give you 15/9 every night.

I'm like most people and fully expect them to level off.  Just pretty cool to watch right now.

Probably will be by season's end. Durant and Westbrook were out the first quarter of the season and once they get on track, they'll be tough to beat.  It's Golden State and everyone else right now.  Did anyone see what Klay Thompson did last night for GS?  Broke the record for scoring in one quarter.  37 points.  I couldn't score 37 without anyone guarding me.

Right. ESPN thinks high of them in the power rankings. Record doesn't reflect how good they are due to the 3/4 week absence of the two studs.

I guess I'm being a Debbie downer....Hawks have lost 4 of the last 7.  I saw this last year with the Blazers. Strong start then went to shit. Still made playoffs but wasn't a  top 5 team in the west.

Honestly, Cleveland looks like the team to beat in the East.

Hawks need a rebounder.

That 7 game stretch was pretty rough. It included 4-5 of the top 10 teams in the league. Bud has a system and it will work long term. To be honest the hawks needed to cool it down. Were peaking way too early.
