Title: Early Lines
Post by: Hogwally on August 09, 2008, 12:53:04 AM
Was looking at early lines at Sportsbook. and Auburn is getting 3 1/2 against WV, but only getting 1 against Georgia.  Thought that was kind of strange.  I think WV is vastly overrated.  I've got to see if I can scrape some money together, get some money on the WV game before the line moves.  Also,  Auburn is only giving up 2 1/2 to 'bama, which seems kind of low as well.

For the season, the o/u for Auburn is 9, which sounds about right.  I wouldn't take the under, but it's tough to bet on 10 wins.

What about La Monroe?  Is it at 50 yet?

The Alabama game is probably about right for an early game.  They are back, haven't you heard?  Gamblers love traditional powers.

Didn't see an line for La Monroe, just the big games of the year.  It will be interesting to see how far those lines move.  I bet the WV line moves almost to even by gameday.  I would think the Ga line will move as well.  If Ga is anywhere near as good as advertised, they should have to give up more than 1.
I know the oddsmakers figure for a home field advantage, but is the homefield really that much of an advantage in major college football anymore?  I mean, teams like Auburn are used to playing in LSU (90k+), Tennessee (100k+), Florida (80k+), is playing in W. Virginia in a 60,000 seat stadium really going to intimidate an SEC team?
