Central Gwinnett (Ga.) LB Trey Johnson has decommitted from Auburn, per his head coach. AU assistant Tommy Thigpen will visit this week.

Who's next?

He is the one I wanted most in this class.

He's a huge loss.  Foster would make up for it but not by much.

We NEED linebackers.

We have defensive linemen.  We have secondary guys.  We have offensive linemen.  We have running backs.  They just need good coaching.

We desperately need a quarterback and linebackers.

No disputing the QB and LB thing.  But, it became apparent that we have little or nothing across the front 7.  Mr. Comingoutearly Corey?  Did he get near a QB in the last 10 games?  Did anyone?  We need to get all the defensive guys in the fold and the longer Jay Fucking Jacobs drags his feet, the more we lose.

I'm guessing (possible destinations):
QB Jeremy Johnson (LSU or Ole Miss)
RB Cameron Artis-Payne (Utah)
RB Jordan Wilkins (UT, Vandy or Ole Miss)
WR Earnest Robinson (uat, LSU or Ole Miss)
TE Arshad Jackson (FSU)
DE Tashawn Bowers (Rutgers)
DL Dee Liner (uat)

That would leave us with 9, I'm sure some might come back and there could be others that drop out too like DE Carl Lawson and LB Jarrad Davis.

Go ahead and add the losses with the total buyout sum. Man power, fuel, hotel, etc.

I know it's just a few days since the Chizik canning, but I'd have expected more than Johnson by now if everyone was going to defect.  If they hire BP, I think that keeps us solid with Jeremy Johnson as QB.  Just a guess based on him being an offensive guru.  Who recruited most of these defensive guys, which is obviously what we need to focus on.  Would keeping Trooper around keep those guys in the fold?

My theory is this. I think there's far more talent on this team than was displayed on the field.  I believe the early reports about a team divided, no discipline or mandatory workouts is really what was going on and it made for a group of guys who showed up on Saturdays and went through the motions.  There's talent..but we do need the Fosters and Liners and Lawsons and both Johnsons etc. to stay.  If they do, I think  BMFP can put us back on the map much sooner than later. If they defect and we hire Coach Klem Kadiddlehopper from good ole PU, we'll be Kentucky for the next 5 years.

Just a theory, but I would guess that Foster is tied closer to Taylor and Luper than any of the defensive coaches because he played ball with their sons.

That picture has nothing to do with it, but I am pretty sure Liner is gone and has been for a long time now.   We are going to get our asses kicked pretty bad in recruiting this year.  When you have a 3 win season and lose your entire coaching staff that usually doesn't bode well for you.

I don't see us getting Liner, Lawson or Johnson.  It's a damn shame too b/c we need some defensive recruits this class.

Dumb question here.  Maybe the answer is obvious.  If you have publically committed to one school....and unless something's changed I haven't heard about, Dee Liner hasn't de-committed....why the fuck would you wear that shit and get your pic taken?  Srsly!!!  If you've changed your mind, fine.  We'll get over it and move on.  But still committed and pulling shit like that makes me want to tell him to fuck off.

But then again....we need him.

I just fear that he will wait until dead period to where we can't recruit someone else to make the flip.  I don't care that Yeldon flipped, what bothered me was the fact that he waited until there was a two week dead period that we couldn't even contact a recruit.  Not cool.  He fucked us over.  If he wanted to flip, fine flip earlier and allow us some time to go out and make a new connection or two.  I will wish nothing but fumbleitis and bum knees on that kid for the rest of his life.

It's increasingly obvious why so many kids were coming to Auburn.

It was lax.  Cool guy coaches that weren't going to expect too much from you.  Then on top of that, 2010 showed the superstars that glory and stardom were possible.

Good riddance to this entire class if that's what they're expecting.  I'm ready for a new crop of kids.

Was talking with AU1 earlier about this.  So, this year we had Jake Holland, the worst MLB in the history of the SEC...210 pound Darren Bates, who never should have been moved from SS...and 220 pound Jonathan Evans who totaled 3.6 tackles for his career.  Jake is back.

Ellis Johnson needs to hit the ground wearin' a new pair of Nike's.

Exactly.

These latest decisions by Malzahn have really impressed me.  I'm sure it's really tempting to hang onto Trooper Taylor for just one more year to hang on to these potentially future NFL players.  But Gus is taking the high road and probably the more difficult road in the short term.

I'm getting the feeling that Auburn football may be exactly what we want it to be in three-four years.

Fuck this kid.  I'd rather have a better program a few years down the road then appease to these fucking 17 year olds.
Totally agree, I'd rather have a 3 star that wants to come to AU and be part of the solution than some self centered egotistic 5 star that will be part of the problem.  Fuck them, AU will survive without these prima donnas dipshits

Well now. Let's not work on bringing him back into the fold!

Fucking THIS^^^^

I don't care if he's an attention whore or not.  Every team has its share of pre-Madonna's.  We all love tuning in to a high school kid's press conference, as long as the hat switch winds up being in our favor.  Somebody is going to welcome him with open arms and he's gonna' wind up knocking Mason's dick in the dirt.  If he's a bad kid, drugs, assault...whatever, that's one thing.  If the guy just likes the attention he gets in the recruiting process, then he's just like most every 5* guy out there.

I'm telling you, these kids aren't choosing a college because "It's like family".  They want playing time. They want a stepping stone to the NFL. They want $$$.  They want the cool coach who can hook em' up.  Whatever it is, it's not for the lifelong love of good ole State University.  Ra-fucking Ra.

Nope.  He was bad ass as long as he flipped from Bama to us.  Show me where he's a bad kid.  Show me where he's going to be a cancer in the locker room.  Honestly haven't researched him but I haven't heard a thing bad about him, except "fuck him" because the coaching staff he committed to playing for got fired and that's who he wanted to play for.

Some times you have to be a little patient and let the kid get over his hurt feelings. As soon as Mama tells him she don't want to drive a long way to watch him play, he'll quietly come back in.

Unless he runs into one of you great supporters of all things AU.

To simplify snag's question: if liner is currently an auburn committ, why does he have that shirt on? Did he lose a bet? Was he rooting for them over ga? Is it just to make people like us talk more? Im curious as well.
I think that he was trolling.  According to the Bama boards, different people have seen him wearing different team gear from time to time.  I wouldn't read too much into it.  But if he's one of those saying he's gone if Trooper leaves, then fuck him.  Like I said in another thread, to be that attached to Taylor, means that he bought into the general aloofness that was Chizik's tenure.  Even though he's really talented, I wouldn't want a kid like that at Alabama.  Given the culture that Malzahn is trying to change, I don't think Auburn needs him either.

If these kids are THAT far up Trooper's ass, then they more than likely wouldn't make the distinction of who the boss is there.  They're going to stay stuck up Trooper's ass, and it will cause dissent.

Top tier LB in Reuben Foster de-commits due to the WR Coach not being retained...yeah, I'm starting to get on the ”Trooper was part of the lackadaisical, easy, no discipline problem.” We need more ”father figures” instead of buddy figures.

Might be he de-committed due to Auburn firing two of his teammates' dads.  Troop's kid played WR with him and Lupe's kid was the QB.

Either way, if he's not wanting to be part of what's happening at Auburn, he can go.

I've never said he's a primadonna at all.  I just worry that many of our current recruits were committed to Auburn because of how cool and easy it seemed to be with the potential being able to act like Cam Newton on the football field.

Those recruits need to wake up and get with reality (which is what they'll find at every other program any way) or go ahead and head somewhere else.

For whatever reason, if you decide you want to come to AU after you meet the new staff, welcome.

Agree for the most part, except I don't think there's many good football players committing to programs because they think it will be an easy time.

Not talking at you, just saying...some people talk like they know these kids personally, and talk about them like their pieces of shit for making a decision, or having a change of heart on something that is a really big life decision.  The Auburn program he committed to is no longer.  Some kids commit to Auburn, some to the HC, some to the position coach they'll play for.  The Auburn program he committed to isn't the same.  Can't blame him for having a change of heart.

To recruit well, you need a lot of different types of personalities.  But, on every staff there has to be someone the players fear.

I was thinking a few weeks ago I was starting not to like the guy. His head is fucked. Read his twitter acct. Now if we lost Lawson or Johnson, yeah that would hurt more IMHO. Foster is a fucking head case like trey blackmon was.

My only question to Gus would be if he was concentrating his recruiting efforts on at least two more DTs and LBs which would bring the commit total to nineteen or twenty. And an additional JC commit at either spot would seem in order as most true freshmen aren't ready to contribute right away.

With the addition of Co-DC/DB Coach Charlie Harbison, we could be getting our Prowler position filled by former AU commit/current Clemson commit 6'4 200lb S Jayron Kearse.

Yeah I perused the So. Miss and Clemson commit lists to see what was there (top JUCOs too) and noticed that DT Montravious Adams was still UND as was LB Trey Johnson unless they are silents.
There are quite a few DT types out there with less "star power" but maybe we can find some fast aggressive earth movers that can qualify. Thing is everyone else is looking for the same diamond in the rough ie. Dabo counts one native Hawaiian stud.

Tongans and Samoans always need a fucking ride so that's not desireable unless, UNLESS AU develops a super pineapple. How sweet would that be?

Research+Bagman= giant islanders running amok in Auburn, AL.

Even worse, we haven't picked anyone up thanks to this staff, averaging out the damage.

Chizik at least did that with Tubs's last class.

We didnt snag Blake, Egua, Rollison, Travis, Paige, or Benton until January and February.  Really not until Luper and Trooper were hired in early January.

I'm going to withhold judgment until signing day, but I'm not expecting the same recruiting prowess as the last staff.

Will be very hard, at least for our needs from what is left to choose from in the SE region.  Malzahn's attempt to lure Bentley appears to have been a power play that stirred up some Gamecock fans what with already having to fend off the likes of Clemson and UGA. I just hope Coach Rock will come so we have a strong chance to improve. Don't know what to think with the initial hires at this moment however Gus is trying to tie up the loose ends. I give him credit for his efforts against tough odds with numerous vacancies on so many staffs in the SEC and the others.
