Title: Sandy
Post by: AUChizad on October 29, 2012, 12:21:06 PM
Supposed to be going to NYC on Thursday.

Wife had planned this for nearly a year as a 30th birthday present. We're supposed to go see the Book of Mormon.

Broadway is supposedly shut down at least until Wednesday. Subways are shut down. It's supposedly a ghost town.

We finally made a trip to NY two summers ago.  We had one planned that spring but sat on the tarmac in Hotlanta, waiting for them to make a decision whether we could make it in.  A huge storm had pretty much shut everything down in NY.  We didn't take off. Spent the night in Atlanta withouth luggage.  It had already gone to NY.

Drove back to Dothan the next day.  Got our luggage about a week later.  Fuck Delta.  Lost about a grand that weekend for nada.

Chizad, I remember a few months ago when R. Foster flipped, some other shit happened, and you claimed it the greatest off the field sporting day of your life.  I'm starting to think that maybe you celebrated a little too much on that day.

I found the post in question.

Happy War Eagle Day!!!

Tray Matthews & Shaq Wiggins just announced they'll be in Auburn this weekend. And Bo Scarbrough just delayed his decision date.

This is the best off-the-field sports day of my life (in addition to the billion awesome Auburn things, Edwin Encarnacion's contract was exteneded and Anthony Davis was added to Team USA). Thank God Drew Brees didn't extend his contract today or I would never have gotten rid of this boner.

Shane died like over 8 months before that, if that's what you were referring to.

If this is a commentary on the homo-ness of wanting to see a Broadway play, fair enough, but The Book of Mormon is not your typical Broadway show.

We had a Broadway show booked too.  A good chunk of the money I lost.

I think we're on. Spoke with the hotel and they said Times Square barely got hit.

We had tickets to the 9/11 Memorial, which that area got the blunt of the storm, so that's probably cancelled.

Or we can get a 2-For-1 deal. Double Ground Zero. Too Soon? Dammit! That's exactly the kind of shit I've got to stop to prevent this kind of thing from happening...

Odds are actually looking pretty good.

We checked in to the flight. It's listed as "on time", and it gave us a gate number.

This shit may happen after all. Other than the clusterfuck that will be NYC.

Had some plans in lower Manhattan (Show at the Comedy Cellar, Lombardi's pizza, 9/11 Memorial) that probably won't happen. As long as we can go to the show, that's the main thing.

When we went summer before last, it was our one and only time.  We did the Grayline Tours thing because we wanted to make sure and hit a bunch of the classic sites around the city.  Pretty good thing for a day because the busses run one after the other and you can get off and on just about anywhere/anytime throughout the city.  Did the 9-11 Memorial, Chinatown, Central Park etc.

One thing that's damn good is taxi fares are surprisingly cheap.  I understand they're regulated pretty hard and it only costs a few bucks to get just about anywhere.

If we can get there, we can get back. Airport should be 100% operational well before our flight leaves on Sunday.

Times Square was virtually untouched. Just lower Manhattan, which is not the main part of New York. Those few things I mentioned, plus Wall Street (which I've already seen) are about the only things worth doing down there.
