Heard on teh sports talks we are looking at another QB with the uncertainty of Pike. McGill Toolen QB, Jason Smith. Said he and Jeremy Johnson are the state's top 2 QB's but in looking at his stats, 1,307 yards passing and 740 rushing, and his size, 6-1 187, he looks more like he'd be recruited as the proverbial athlete. They said he's looking at:
The Good: Auburn
The Bad: Ole Miss and MSU and..
The Ugly: Alabama
Anyone have any scoop on him or if we're in the game for him? Thanks, I'll hang up and listen

No.

Per BM: "Smith had a great trip to Auburn but is not ready to make a decision. That will probably come at the end of July. He said he really enjoyed working with Coach Loeffler. I don't remember if I mentioned it in the notes but he threw ball really well during 1-on-1's.
Also, I spoke with Smith's teammate, WR Carl Lee, who had a good camp and excelled in 1-on-1's. He has some mid-major type offers but is being recruited by several big schools including Auburn. More on both soon..."

I haven't heard much about the kid but it seems he is being recruited by most schools as an ATH.

Just my take, and I don't know anything about the kid. Those aren't eye popping stats. If he's listed at 6-1 187, he's 6ft or less, and 180 or less most likely. If he's a good athlete that might help elsewhere, then I say never pass one like that up, unless he's one that will be a cancer if you don't let him be QB.
OTOH, If Loefler likes him as a QB, and chooses to offer him as a QB, then I trust his judgement on that.

Jason Smith will make a good WR or DB. He'll sign with Auburn and he'll be coming in as a QB, but then he'd end up as a WR (slot) or a DB. Auburn will sign another QB in the '14 Class as well.
I just hope he has the same attitude as Kodi Burns did when he's asked to make the transition.

So, Coach midget has apparently told Jason Smith that he'd definitely get a shot at QB (surely he can't be stupid enough to believe that bullshit).
Especially after what Coach sabbin told him a couple months ago...
"He told me straight up when I talked to him that he sees me as an NFL corner," Smith said. "The man knows what he's talking about, because he has been doing this for years. I didn't get mad at him at all, but I told him that I was a quarterback."
Saban told Smith if he committed to Alabama, he would get the opportunity to try out at the quarterback position. The head coach said he could see the 6-foot-1, 175-pound quarter back being useful in certain wildcat packages at the quarterback position.

sounds pretty close to:
he would get the opportunity to try out at the quarterback position
-
Smith committed to Auburn Monday morning.

I spoke with Smith's teammate Carl Lee
I like Carl Lee's attitude. Free Carl Lee!

Well, I can tell you, he will not be on the Alabama roster.

I keep confusing the Jason Smith and Jeremy Johnson. Both have about as generic names as you can get (especially compared to other football recruits these days) with first names starting with a J.
I imagine that I will continue to mix the two up in discussions about them for several years to come.
Will be nice to see these two duke it out for a starting role, hopefully after Frasier wins the Heisman and gets drafted first round.

The kid's got moves and he is fast.

Not really shit your pants fast.
-
Not really shoot your pants fast.
He's got sub 6.0 second speed, that makes him the 2nd fastest QB on our roster.

Not really shit your pants fast.
Yea, you are correct. The kid just needs to be Knox'd up.
