Title: Summertime Distraction
Post by: wesfau2 on May 27, 2008, 02:18:50 PM
OK, we need something to occupy our time while we wait for two-a-days.  Since we're going to be quaffing cold beers anyway, I propose that we select a micro-brew (or macro if you lack discerning taste buds) each week and review it.  In a perfect world, the review will be written whilst under the influence of said intoxicating liquor.

Thoughts?  Suggestions?  Raised middle fingers?

I can write a review of Budweiser NA, Coors NA or St. Pauli's NA.

I realize they are not micro-brews, but they are all I got!

Ah, hell, I'll write one anyway and it goes for all three.

Non-alcoholic beer sucks.

Good.  You picked up on my subtle attempt to raise your ire due to the restrictions imposed by your Muslim hosts.

I'm tempted to open the Arrogant Bastard Ale tonight that I was given recently. If I do...I will post a review.

I've also got a Stone 10th Anniversary India Pale Ale and a Black Chocolate Stout by the Brooklyn Brewery that need to be consumed.

I like where your head's at, but I was thinking that we'd do it on a more communal level.

That works too. I'm game for that. The only bad thing is half the good beers aren't available in Alabama  :&.

BTW, what is with you having two names now?

We'll make sure that everyone has access to the beer du jour.

Beerfest is this weekend in Birmingham, I could write a review on that.  It might not make any sense.

I am currently 3 deep in the Yuengling.  It's the only thing worth a damn that the gas station next to my hotel had it stock.  That said,

Yuengling Lager is brewed in Pottstown, PA, also known as America's Oldest Brewery.  To me, Yuengling is a step above a Michelob, and a step below a Sam Adams.  I've got more to add, but I'm too sober to properly review to the thread originator's standards.

Update at 10.

Question 1 - Where are you?  Suggestion 1 - Google the nearest titty bar, I hear they have great dinner buffets.

While we are on the subject...can someone drink a Fat Tire and tell me what it tastes like?

Or a Sweetwater 420?

Or a Flying Dog?

Or a Shiner Bock?

I know some of those will probably no longer be considered a micro-brew, but they are all tasty.

It would be just like the ones in B'ham.  You wouldn't show up when the posse is there.

I was going to draw a comparison based on the amount of forewarning each party had prior to each event  but I felt I should just let you feel good and kiss my ass when your socks get there.

Don't know.  He posted today or yesterday and I sent him an email today.  I haven't checked back to see if he answered because I sent it on the SIPR net, which is a pain in the ass.

After attending the Free The Hops Brewfest last night, I would like to review two beers I had for the first time.

The first is the Rogue Chipotle Ale.

This has to be the strangest tasting beer I've ever tried. Truth in advertising, this beer tastes almost exactly like downing a bottle of Chipotle hot sauce. There is absolutely nothing refreshing about this beer. I tried it in a 4-ounce sample cup, and I don't think there's any way I could have handled a 16-oz glass. Like I said though, worth tasting just because it's so different.

The second beer I'd like to review is Good People, brewed right here in Birmingham.
It was my favorite at the entire festival. A great malty flavorful beer. I asked them how long they'd been around, to which the guy responded "12 hours." They debuted their beer that night at Brew Fest. They will be located in the Basement of 5 Points Grill.

More info on Good People.

I know.  Typical bureacratic stuff.

Don't worry, they won't arrest you if they catch it.  And it won't get me in any trouble.  I have no control on people making sure that I have enough socks to run in every morning.
