So, I heard another rumor today that Smith may be coming back. Anyone have anything on this? Some may not think it's that big a deal but I tend to believe we need this guy badly. Our numbers are going to be razor thin at RB and a big, experienced 240 pound body back there would be huge to me.
Rumors? Gossip? In-your-end-o's?
-
Chinook's house of porn is running a sweet special today. Half off all midget porn and BOGO on all in stock 2010 model lifelike vaginas. I am thinking I may just go ahead and.....wait....wrong thread. Nevermind. Carry on.
Yes, yes, having Smith back would be huge. Frees lutzy up to do his thing solely.
-
I think it's rumor and in your window.

What we need are some skreets on this........

I already asked about a full-time blocking back and we don't have one.

5'11" 315lbs. is a "Blocking Back".
-
Good lord I hope he doesn't come back.

No worries. We're way behind in the arrests category. Even if Smith gets popped 2....3 more times, we'll still be well behind Georgia and Florida.

I figured if he did come back that it would cement the Fulmer Cup title.

Why not?

Well, the more I probe to get info, the more this looks to be just a rumor and nothing more. I will say though, did Chizik ever make an official announcement of Smith being off the team? Also, from what I have read from others, he is still going to classes at Auburn.
On another note concerning RB's, there are more rumors that Blakely may actually be eligible to play this based on NCAA stipulations concerning the amount of practices and such a player attends.

Serves you right.
I have heard the Eric Smith coming back rumors for a while and there are rumors that he has been spotted at the Athletic Complex and in the weight room. If he is coming back we will see.

Well, judging by Chiziks past actions, I certainly think if Smith is let back on the team it will be after he serves his due. If Coach does in fact choose this then I will go right along with it.
-
Why not?
The guy is just bad news. Serves as nothing but a bad influence on the rest of the team. Most of our guys are decent (we have a mix of choir boys, normal kids, and we certainly have our share of "rough around the edges guys") but Eric Smith pushes the rough around the edges guys the wrong direction. I'd just rather he not be representing Auburn University.

You may be privy to info that I don't have, but I would say the bad apples are bad apples. I'm not saying he is a good kid, I don't know him, but the only thing I know from him is what is reported and that is he got into a fight and got a personal foul in the BCSCG, not enough for me to write him off as a trouble maker.
Unless I have missed something, that is all I know about him.

1st Strike: He was involved in the altercation with the student at the bar/party. (I was very willing to give him the benefit of the doubt about this situation until other things showed a pattern of behavior)
2nd Strike: He kicked an Oregon player in the head
3rd Strike: He was arrested for domestic violence against his gf. (this was what he was actually thrown off the team for in February)
I've just heard too many other stories from people I know still living in Auburn about his behavior and attitude around town.

Must have missed #3. I didn't know that. I don't hear anything from folks that live in AU, I have been gone from there about 12 years now, so I don't anyone there anymore to get that kind of info.

Michael Dyer is getting a beating at the hands of Barron and Hightower. He's on the ropes! Here come's the chair! Good Gawd! Won't someone put a stop to this? Isn't there someone who can block for this man?
Wait...That...That's Eric Smith's music!

Oh so this is the 5'11" 315 lb. blocking back Prowler is talking about?
He needs a hat to match that melon.

His name is Ladarius Phillips.
Also Aubie16, Eric Smith never kicked a player in the fucking head. Go back and watch the replay. If he would've kicked anyone in the head, he would've been ejected.
I say welcome him back, then sign Petey up next year.

He may not have kicked him...but he kneed the fuck out of him...
And it was a dirty fucking play...

I know it's Phillips. Don't know how desireable the Smiffs are to Chizik.

Nope...Try again. Watch the replay, then come back to this subject.

Like he said, go back and watch it again. It was in no way dirty. The duck was the dirty one.
-
Watched it again. Still think it was dirty by Eric Smith.
The Oregon guy blocks him a slightly late, but there is absolutely no excuse for Smith to jump up and attempt to knee him/kick him in the butt/back. Just a stupid decision.
Regardless of whether you believe it was a dirty hit or not, I don't want anybody on the team that has been arrested twice for violence against other people. Especially if one of them was a girl. Domestic violence is pretty high on my list of absolute non-negotiable issues.

We need a Jerome "Stay outta my yard" Bechard type enforcer.

That's what I want too. We need a guy to look after our best interests. Smith caught a few passes and didn't run the ball which was fine by me. But bringing him back IMO would invite a hailstorm of negativity from the usual haters AND do-gooders (many from the AU side) which is a bad combination.
It's not just the behavior of the kid that people will question...it would be the judgement of the HC and so far, Chizik has been untarnished in the way he has handled the team.
And I don't see dirty plays on the field...I see cheap shots and fouls and flags for fouls if the ref sees it.
-

Major PR disaster to bring him back. Finebaum and Shane will get 6 months of calling Auburn Thug U out of Smith returning. Will also claim he threatened Chiz to spill the bean on the whole Cam deal, and boosters handing out Benjamins.

Anyone that has has EVER played football knows that the coach is ALWAYS pissed at the player that got a penalty, no matter what the reason.
I guess we all missed that big assed yellow cleat in Smith's crotch. I'm sure it was a passive mistake on the Oregon players part. We really do not see enough of the play to get a true picture. We only see the retaliation. And retaliation is not "DIRTY". It is emotional. Some of you act like you have never been on the field before.
As an aside. I do not want him back either. I just never though the play was "dirty".
-

Yeah, your idea of kneeing the shit outta someone and mine are apparently different....because I'd consider that a leg bump to his ass...definitely not "a kick to the head" as aubie16 stated, also Eric Smith did put his hands up which means he didn't do anything and that he's innocent.
-
Now there's the type of go-getter I want on my team. Kid's a real up and comer. A double tough competitor, not afraid to mix it up, get his hands dirty.
-

Bham Bulls, early 90s - that guy was great

Glad someone remembered, lol. The Bulls had the scariest fucker in the sporting world, that played with reckless abandonment, and people forget about him??? Come On PEOPLE!!!! I loved watching him fly down the rink and elbow the opponent in the mouth, basically destroying his face. Now that was a Damn Enforcer.

I just read on another site (AuburnEagle) that Eric Smith was back on the team.

A source close to the team informed me that the coaches laid out a plan for Eric Smith to follow in order to be back on the team and he has followed it. Eric has changed his ways and is back with the team.

Rule #1: Stop hitting women.
Rule #2: Stop hitting men in bars.
Rule #3: Don't get caught on camera kneeing opposing players in the ass.

I hate that he's back on team, I think it's a terrible move.

It seems to be a split 50/50 opinion on that. Some like it and some don't. I for one wouldn't have never thought anything of it, him not being on the team that is. I would be willing to bet the coaches haven't made it easy for him at all. I guess if he is able to work his ass off and get his mind right then I'm down with it. I guess I'm just gonna have to trust the coaches know what the hell they're doing.
-

I would agree with you under normal circumstances, but Auburn doesn't need something bad to actually occur to have someone write about it and give us a black eye. Why not take advantage of the fact that all we get is bad press anyway?
-
If he so much as spits on the sidewalk, I want him gone. That's how short his leash needs to be.
-

He'll be picked up by a team just like Darvin. Has an attitude on and off the field. Has good hands and plays special teams as well. We need a legit fullback, I'm just not sure he's worth another chance.
-
We don't know the details. Maybe Eric Smith really changed and somehow proved it to Chizik. Maybe Chizik recognized that our running game greatly improves with him.
I don't know.
But I know this - our running game just greatly improved with him coming back.

Bingo.
Told my wife a long time ago, if you're going to accuse me of cheating and berate me as if I had every time I look in another direction? I'm going to do what I'm being punished for.
If he's back, good. We need some fire. We need a dude who'll knock somebody's ass out in defense of a teammate.

Agree Jumbo.....but we have no idea what happened or the context of the incident. I would like to think The Chin knows the deal and I trust him to keep this little peckerhead on a short leash. If we weren't as low on schollys as we are or shallow in the backfield, I would 100% agree with you. But we really need the guy this upcoming season. Lutz needs to be a true TE. We need more than just him in that bruiser/short yardage/wheel route role.
Also, as JR and Kaos said, they are gonna talk shit about us anyway. Might as well get our money's worth.
-

True, but to me there is only three reasons to hit a woman.
1. She has a gun pointed at you.
2. She has a knife that she is cutting you with.
3. She tells you the kid you have been raising for the last 16 years isn't really yours (happened to a buddy of mine).

Or, if during sex, you're both on your side and you're popping that shit from behind, and she's telling you how good you are, and you're all into it and thinking how you are the man, and you happen to peek over and see that she's filing her nails....
What? That's happened to you....right?

FWIW, you can be charged with Domestic Violence III and not have laid a hand on the victim.
Or for that matter done anything at all. Wimminz have been known to make that shit up. Not saying that happened here, but it does.

I want a scary-assed fullback that blows shit up on the field.
This guy can buy the o-line some time. He has a NC ring and a HC that believes in him.

This is kind of what I am thinking. I find it hard to believe that Chizik or anyone in Admin would allow Smith back on the team if otherwise.
-

Not stories worth telling.
But back to Smith? If it's okay for other schools to have people who choked-a-bitch on their roster, I don't see a damn thing wrong with having somebody who half-heartedly kicked at a duck's ass.
