Title: Darius Philon Says....
Post by: Townhallsavoy on May 30, 2011, 03:43:39 PM
I SAID IT'S GREAT TO BE AN AUBURN TIGER!

Quote
Darius Philon wasn't able to attend last weekend's Big Cat recruiting event at Auburn, but that didn't stop the Tigers' recruiting for the defensive lineman from Prichard.

The 6-foot-2, 260-pound Vigor High School senior committed to Auburn on Monday.

That's the word from AuburnSports.com and AuburnUndercover.com and Inside the Auburn Tigers today. They have the quotes.

Philon had 89 tackles last season.

The websites report Philon is A good basketball player and his high school coach, Kerry Stevenson, says Philon should safely qualify. He also had offers from Kentucky, Mississippi State, Texas Tech, Southern Miss, among others. He's Auburn's seventh commitment, and the second in the last three days.

Philon missed the Big Cat festivities because he was visiting his uncle in Texas. He's no stranger to Auburn, however. He's visited Auburn three times in the last year. Scout and 247 Sports say he's a three-star prospect.

Offensive lineman Shane Callahan committed last Saturday during Big Cat. Auburn's other commitments are cornerback Joshua Holsey,  athlete Darrion Hutcherson, quarterback Zeke Pike, linebacker Cassanova McKinzy and offensive lineman Michael Flint.

This guy's too agile with a roundball background to play inside, witnessed by nearly 90 tackles.
If Pelton wants him he must be a hoss.

True enough! But Marks had him by 30 lbs. Still room to grow I always say.

The biggest thing about his commitment, is that sometimes all it takes is one committed prospect for a University to sink it's claws into the school.  IMO, his commitment to Auburn is a blow to SPuat's strangle hold on the Mobile schools.

6' 255 or 6'2" 260?

Not that it matters, but that's one of my pet peeves.  When I read in the paper that we had gotten a commitment from an unrated 6' 255 pound defensive tackle, I was like  ;)

Diamond in the ruff?

Where are his stats?  Dog eat 'em?
Seriously,
somebody had to have an idea that numbers might prove beneficial in his recruitment ...besides his grandma. Oh yeah my baby plays basketball and football but he ain't as tall as his Daddy.

That's about it.

He'll be Top 15-20 DT in the Country before the season's over.

The weakest player in terms of Starzz on our roster, and Alabama is trying to steal him for some moral victory... Just offered him this weekend.

Apparently, they're still after Darrion Hutcherson pretty hard too. The only other 3 star.

You already have nine 3*s, Bama, hands off of ours!

Wonder if we'll be hearing another rant about what "commitment" means. You shop, we'll shop.

The Tide has officially turned.

I saw that this morning, that they had offered him. I think you're right Chizad. The tide has turned and the turds know it.

Finebaum has never heard this, and he thought it was a low blow to Saban.

That's what he does to baseless rumors about Alabama.

Even though, this is fact.

Oh, according to the Finebaum callers, and Finebaum himself not disagreeing with, Saban never said that about not recruiting committed players in relation to the SEC.

What the blazing fuck, do these people have alzheimer's or some shit?

Guy now saying "How much time does this guy have on his hands to find this collage of obscure quotes".

WTF. How do you not remember this?

It took me literally 5 seconds to google that article before that other guy thankfully brought it up on air.

Hell I remember this shit. Saban had mentioned it before but it was when Calloway and CK had jumped ship for a minute that he about flipped his lid. Every bammer out there were just repeating his every word. Stuff like how can any of the players say they have committed and back out. The shit happens all the time. The callers on Fbaum know this shit, they just don't want to admit it.

Skreets bitch.

He's a 5 grillz and will be a top 15 player by the end of the year, unless he decides to roll with the Tide.  Then he has grade problems.

Unless he signs with us.

At some point there will be suspicion focused on a program when commits to a rival keep flipping.

Maybe you don't understand the Grill rankings, I don't take into consideration the player's academics...never have, never will. They're ranked by their abilities on the field. Philon will have qualifying issues, or he would've had them, had he committed elsewhere...but since he's a turd now, I would imagine those issues will be bumped out of the way, like Jermaine Preyear, Kerry Murphy & Josh Chapman's were.  Especially now that there's a tighter limit on signing classes....no room for mistakes in the classroom.

But no mention of qualifying problems when he's a Tiger commitment?  Only when he switches is it worthy of mentioning how dumb he is?

And??? So, you're saying that I should ruin everyone's excitement of the kid's commitment by saying that he's not going to qualify so don't get excited...that would be slightly greaseybammerish...you do realize that this is an Auburn message board right? Also, I'm not going to offer up information on a kid's academic eligibilty if he's committed to Auburn. I'll say this on Philon, if he qualifys, it'll send up red flags everywhere.

Really, I was just fishing for some fodder for the next time you bitch about any recruiting website being biased.

Thanks.

When you became a bammer did you lose your ability to read and comprehend? Did you not see the Rivals piece where one of the head writers said that they would bump up recruits due to hype coming from bammer online?  Btw, you can use my exact statements on Philon, no where have I stated anything about him being lower ranked since he's a turd commit, in my rankings, to where he was when he was an Auburn commit. He should still be in the Top 20 in the Country, at the DT position, at the end of the season.
