An absolute disgrace.  The Birmingham News should be strafed with Napalm.

However, after this article, no one can say shit about us paying off the family...

Wow.

First of all, fuck his dad for those giving them those kinds of sound bytes.

But it that article just snowballed into a worse and worse right until the end, as if the author had to force himself to quit writing because he was getting himself so worked up.

The Trooper "theatrics"? And then to end on this melodramatic bullshit?

For the past month, Auburn has had his heart. For three years previous, Alabama held it.
Calloway is content with the decision.
The father who took him under his wing wants him to honor the original vow.

So he gets a letter:

Your article on Brent Calloway is the most pathetic, biased piece of garbage masquerading as journalism I’ve ever seen in my life.

You characterize Trooper Taylor’s contribution to Auburn as “theatrics” and allow Calloway’s “guardian  to chastise the Auburn sideline for “high fiving” but say nothing about the eye-popping, mouth-foaming rages customary from Alabama coach Nick Saban and ignore his rabid-dog ass slapping of a backup quarterback?  Disgraceful. And inexcusable.

You note “widespread speculation that Calloway may switch back to Alabama.”   Where is this speculation?  So far as I can ascertain, it’s restricted to the most lunatic of fringes on Bama message boards.

The purpose of this pathetic load of horse manure is obvious.  Your goal, Segrest, is to shame Calloway into changing his mind.  That’s not journalism.  That’s not opinion.  That’s not news.  There’s no place for that and I’m disgusted that the Birmingham News allowed it to be printed and/or posted online.

How much did Big Al pay you to file this excrement?

The Calloway switch sure has pissed a lot of bammers. "How dare Auburn to take away one of our top recruits". Really? Whats going to happen when Cyrus K signs with Auburn?

By the way, I just read that Calloway is in Tuscaloosa this weekend. I hope Saban and his "gaurdian" don't get to him. We really need that kid to play RB for Auburn.

That super sucks.  He definitely didn't need to be there.

By the way, I just read that Calloway is in Tuscaloosa this weekend. I hope Saban and his "gaurdian" don't get to him. We really need that kid to play RB for Auburn.

We just got Tre Mason, and have Quan Bray.  Both solid RB commits, both RUNNING BACKS.  We have Dyer and McCaleb as a tandem for the next 2 years too.  This kid is physically talented, but seems that he has a desire to play the position he wants to play, rather than where most coaches and evaluators think his talent lies.  And he could turn out to be a star at RB too,  but I'm not going to cry if he waffles again.   I will welcome him to Auburn if he stays steady, and wherever he winds up contributing, I'll root for him, but sometimes these type kids cause discord...not all are Kodi Burns in their attitude to be a team player.  Bottom line is I don't think we'll be hurting at RB if he goes elsewhere.

And I hope his father doesn't strong arm or shame him in to "honoring the original commitment" out of honor.  It's HIS life, his football career, and his college career, and the information he has with which to decide can change.  There's no moral imperative involved in such a verbal commitment any more than there is in buying a house or a car...until you sign on the dotted line you're free to choose.

No worries, Brent is on a secret mission to part the crimson sea and bring Arie Kouandjio and Philip Sims back to Auburn.

A warrior, he is.

We shouldn't worry, Brent Calloway is coming to Auburn.  If he wants to be a rented mule, he'll do what his Guardian wants him to do and commit to SPuat.

I found these interesting...

Quote
He won't interfere with his son's decision, although he will continue to speak his mind....(Ummm, yeah, that's interferring in Calloway's decision.  BTW, BC is not his "son"...he adopted Calloway three years ago when he was 15 years old.  I'm guessing this is part of "the process", SPuat's Michael Oher version.)

Winston says he's not an Alabama fa, but he likes the way the Crimson Tide staff approaches the game. ( I'm calling some serious Bullshit on that)

"They stick to business. You don't see their coaches high-fiving," Winston said. (So the Coaches aren't suppose to enjoy their job and they're not suppose to make it fun.)

Maybe that's the biggest disconnect between the two generations. One of Calloway's attractions to Auburn is the theatrics of Tigers assistant coach Trooper Taylor on the sideline. (BTW, it's not just Calloway that likes Coach Troop, A LOT of upcoming prospects like him.  They also like having fun while in College.)

For the past month, Auburn has had his heart. For three years previous, Alabama held it. (Get adopted, then have SPuat rammed down your throat...."Proce$$".)

Calloway is content with the decision. (unless the Guardian can force him to change his mind.)

The father who took him under his wing wants him to honor the original vow. (a vow that sounds like was pushed onto him.)

All business, eh?

I have said it before and I will say it again - I absolutely believe that one of the reasons Auburn was so successful this year is that our guys were loose and free of spirit and were having FUN.  Contrast that to bammer, where the players know that one mistake will get them a butt slap or a serious mouth foaming scream fest in their face.  Not that Chiz does not get in a guy's face for something like a personal foul or similar, but that is how it should be.  The attitude in the locker room this year made all the difference in those tight games.  Remember what the players said about halftime of the Iron Bowl?  No one was panicked, no one was puckered - "They just showed us everything they had.  We got this...".  The 2010-11 Auburn Tigers have proven that you don't have to be the goosestepping Third Reich to win championships - that it is possible to win win win and still have FUN like you are supposed to.

If I am a kid?  I would rather have fun all the way to the ATL...

Rumors seem to be buzzn that Calloway called the Auburn coaches from Tuskaloser saying he is still committed to Auburn and is "All In".

Oh, and this probably didn't help the bammers. This pic was taken at yesterdays bama b-ball game of which Calloway attended.

Just amazing.  Those fucking fools are just amazing.  Those sorry fuckers don't give a fucking shit about ANY player except in the very moment they're producing a win for the turds.  If they don't commit to them, they didn't want them anyway.  If they change their commitment, they're Benedict Arnold.  If they go to bammer, but don't pan out, they should transfer or be given a medical hardship scholarship to make way for someone else.  If they go and make it to being a starter or getting to play play, they always talk about who behind you is better.   I have heard every one of those things actually voiced by a bammer.  And they're serious when they say it.  They don't give a fucking shit about ANY player.  If they think that isn't obvoius to some recruits, they're crazy.

What's funny is, that pic was taken by a guy on BOL who went down and told the guy holding the sign how much of a piece of shit he was for having that sign. And the guy then got rid of the sign.

Yes, hilarious. This guy should be a hero!! I mean, he took a picture and posted it on line for the world to see BEFORE he went and told him to get rid of it. That was smart.

I hope that this brilliant dude isn't walking by when an old granny is getting robbed, or some pregnant lady is getting harrased by a bunch of punks, or the local handi-cap child is getting picked on by the school bully. I would hate to know that he would take a picture before he took any action just so that he could post it on-line and let the victims relive the moment...

The number of somewhat decent fans to the number of Shane/Legend/Birmingham quality fans?

1 out of 11,396

Who wants to wade through 11,396 pieces of shit to find a penny?

You are what you are.

Even you, RWS, you who can carry on a moderately decent conversation, are yourself almost a caricature.

You didn't go to the school. Don't know if you're related to anybody who went there.  You've never been there for a game.  You have no idea where the stadium even is in relation to the rest of that hideous campus.  You don't know what's next to it.  Don't know the name of the guy who runs the grill that sits in the shadow of that tub of excrement.  You don't have any clue that BDS borders on a graveyard and a pile of rundown slums.

You have no legitimate affiliation with the school and yet you "loves you some crimpson tahd."  You have no idea WHY you do.  Somebody -- maybe it was a snuff snorting granny who got wet knickers when she saw Boozer Bryant on the black and white TV, maybe it was a dog handling segregation-era cop who saw Bammer "success" as justification for keeping "those people" in line, maybe it was some cousin you wanted to bang who wore rebel flag panties and once was a fluffer at Joe Namath's party out in Cottondale -- whoever it was, somebody influenced you to "love you some crimpson tahd."

No offense, but you're nothing more than a brainwashed sheep.  You're no different than an Islamic extremist who does things because he's been told to and doesn't really know why.   Doesn't care why.

Ugh.

I don't care what you say.  I've been around this rivalry for a lot of years.  Auburn fans are different than Alabama fans.  It's changed somewhat over the last 30 years because of our continued success -- nay, dominance -- of the Tide, but for the most part Auburn fans have some familial allegiance with the school  If we didn't go there ourselves our parents did or our children did (or will).   Auburn is a part of us and who we are.  It's bigger than a damn football team.  It's bigger than a man.  Glory, glory to Auburn.  Not some houndstooth dipstick.  Not some punk ass tyrant.  Auburn.

Forget it.  You couldn't possibly understand.

Telling someone that you hope they break their legs or wishing some kind of harm on them...is a little bit different than saying that you hope they enjoy riding the bench or that they'll probably be on Medical Hardship in a few years regardless if they're hurt or if they've put 3-4 years of their heart and soul into the football team.

I will say this, however.  The dingy little diner on the cemetery side of the stadium makes a damn fine hamburger.   If you can stomach the acres of crimpson garbage the guy who runs it is actually a pretty decent sort and the burgers and shakes are outstanding.

Joe used to live in some "swanky" apartments out in Cottondale.  Before they built the FoodWorld out there (out of business now I think) and before there was all that other junk.  It's really the end of University Blvd that runs through Cottondale and out toward the Interstate junction.  Wish I could remember the name of those apartments, but it escapes me now.  Joe used to have cocaine and booze binges out there I was told.

Just a few things.....

Yes, I have been to the campus. Yes, I have been to the stadium. I have been to Auburn's stadium and campus as well. No, I haven't been there for a game. Yes, I have a relative who went to Alabama. I also have relatives that went to Auburn. My grandparents are Auburn fans, and one is an alumni. My dad is a Notre Dame fan. My mother could give a shit less about football. I don't care about what Bear Bryant did. I wasn't alive then, and it was a long time ago. Nobody told me to like Alabama football. Maybe that's why I get along with fans from other fanbases fairly well. Maybe that's why I don't "hate" other certain college teams. I don't know. It's simply the team I chose.

Any other labels you would like to apply?

Unlike you, Prowler, I don't mind responding when somebody lights me up. I suppose I could just do like you do and sulk away for a week or two.

Are they permanent labels or just peel and stick?  That will play into my decision.

You don't know why you're an Alabama fan.  I think I said that.  And then you said it. It's like an echo.

Some possibilities:

1) You're a bandwaggoner and jumped on during one of the few years Bama had the upper hand over Auburn.
2) You grew up in a predominantly Bama area and opted to be a sheeple so as to avoid getting beat up or ridiculed by the toothless nation.
3) You bought into the concept that "Tharteen Nashunal Champeenships" is tradition, when it is, in fact, a lie first and foremost, and not by any stretch of the definition "tradition"
4) You aspired to grow a mullet and tattoo the visage of grizzled drunks across your back.
5) Elephants get you horny.

There's no good reason for a person with no affiliation to choose Alabama. Had this discussion with the girl who cuts my hair. She moved here from St. Louis and chose to be a Bama fan when she was accosted by an obnoxious fan friend who demanded that she "choose"  It was, she said, easier to be a Bama fan because Auburn fans didn't act like asses to Bama fans like Bama fans did to Auburn fans.  I bought her an Auburn t-shirt and asked her why she wanted to side with the assholes and be considered one herself just by association. She is now dating an Auburn fan and I expect a conversion soon.

I think she's right, though.  It's easier to be a Bama fan because you don't have to put up with all the obnoxious and ignorant bullshit Bama fans spew on a daily basis.

If we're going to play psychiatrist here, why do you like KISS?

1) Maybe you're a bandwagoner that jumped on while KISS was wildly popular.
2) You grew up around alot of people that like KISS, and you didn't want to be the odd man out.
3) You bought into the concept that face paint and men wearing platform shoes is cool.

I can't imagine why you would want to be a KISS fan, because I don't like them, therefore it is illogical for anybody to like KISS.

You can apply it to anybody who likes an NFL team. A MLB team. NHL. NBA. etc, etc. Just because somebody likes something, there doesn't have to be some deeply rooted psychiatric examination of the explanation why they like it.

I have never been scarce on this site....although some wish I would be.  I came back and stated that the uniform change was told to me and I relayed it to this site.  I thought it was gonna happen, so did a lot of other people.  The information that I received was wrong....oh fucking well.  Again, I haven't gone maybe three days without posting something here.  Two of those days I was flying, with Jumbo, across the Country.

I also believe y'all have the most bandwaggoney fan base in the world and that rootin' fer da Bahr is the just another piece of the inbred genetic material passed down though sex between siblings, like buck teeth and wall-eye.

But as much as it pains me to say it, because of this analogy, I am gonna have to call this one a draw.  Nice work, RWSDIM.

Yes. We know. Even after it was proven you would be wrong, you then offered the excuse that you really were going to be right, so much so that the players were disappointed in not changing uniforms, that it explained why AU played flat. They were so amped up about the uniform change, that when it didn't happened, their world was then crushed. Nobody cared about a prediction that AU was going to change uniforms. It was the matter of the fact that you threw it in everybody's faces how right you were going to be, and how connected you are. Even after Chizik himself said it wasn't going to happen, oh no.....you knew better.

Maybe we do. I haven't taken a poll. However, I doubt you guys are going to run and tell all of these AU fans that have recently jumped on the wagon to get the fuck off. As much as I would like to tell some in our fanbase to please go put on an Auburn shirt, it just doesn't happen. I don't know why some choose to be an Alabama or Auburn fan, or why some people like the color green instead of grey. I don't care why some guy likes the Dallas Cowboys instead of the Atlanta Falcons. Most people in this country haven't played for either team. Most people in this country have no personally vested interest in any professional team, except they just like that team for whatever reason. I don't give a shit what that reason is. Maybe they like that team's colors. Maybe somebody likes the Seattle Seahawks because they live in Seattle. Maybe somebody likes to watch hockey because they like seeing people knock the shit out of each other. It doesn't really matter.

Fuck, I like watching America's Funniest Home Videos with my family sometimes at night. Is it because I think Tom Bergeron looks like some odd cat/human mix? Maybe. Maybe I just like seeing people be jackasses.

See, you shoulda quit while you were ahead.  I disagree with you here.  I do have a vested interest in Auburn, because that's where I went to school.  It is the reason that I tear up when that eagle circles the field.  It is the reason I spent $2000 to fly to Arizona.

For pro-teams I still slightly disagree, because I would venture to say that the people buying the season tickets, do have a vested interest in how their team performs.

I edited it before you posted and put professional teams. That is what I actually meant. My point with the pro teams is, why wouldn't you ask why they have enough interest in that team in the first place to even buy a season ticket?

I could point out a hundred reasons why the analogy is flawed, but there's no point in belaboring it.

The girl who cuts my hair is right.  It's "easier" to be a bama fan if you have no ties to either school because if you adopt them, you don't have to put up with their ignorant, assholish abuse.  It's really as simple as that.

As much as I hate bumping my own thread, I am doing so now due to recent events.

Eleven minutes ago I received an email from the sports editor of the Birmingham News asking for permission to print my response to Doug Segrest (contained on page 1 of this thread) in their paper.  My response?

You've got to be kidding me.  You wait until AFTER the collective Bama cabal -- which includes Segrest -- descends on Calloway like a pack of jackals and achieves its objective to ask me if you can print my comments?

Nay. You may not.  What you may do, however, is lube Segrest up, print out my comments, afix them to a two-by-four and shove it up....
