Wench, no matter how bad the Cards may suck this year, and no matter how badly the Cubs suck, at least our teams don't have anyone that had an anal fissure.

Matsui could miss first two weeks of season with injury

Mar 26, 3:14 pm EDT

HOUSTON, Texas (AFP) - Kazuo Matsui, the first Japanese infielder signed in North American Major League Baseball, could miss the first two weeks of the upcoming season for the Houston Astros because of an injury.

The Astros put second baseman Matsui on the disabled list retroactive to March 21, the National League club announced on Wednesday, while he recovers from surgery to repair an anal fissure that took place on March 17.

Astros general manager Ed Wade said Matsui might need a full month to prepare for a return to the lineup, which would sideline him for the start of the season.

Matsui will be re-examined by team doctors on Friday.

"I have to get better first, I have to get going," Matsui said. "I want to play in a game as soon as possible. I will try my best to be ready."

Matsui played last season for the National League champion Colorado Rockies after joining the New York Mets for the 2004 season.

Is that a real thing?  I thought that was a new nickname for Scott Boras...

I am not even sure I have the energy for any baseball rants.  The magnitude of the suckitude is just so fucking overwhelming.  Even Roy O is having a shitty spring.

When your team is so crappy that Woody Williams is still considered a potential starter, you are in big trouble.

When your team is so crappy that random minor leaguers no one had EVER FREAKING HEARD OF BEFORE THIS WEEK are ACTUALLY being considered for the starting rotation, you are in deep shit.  (JACK CASSEL?  WHO THE FUCK IS JACK CASSEL??)***

When your team is so crappy that CNNSI predicts a 74 win season - finishing BEHIND THE FREAKING BREWERS (but ahead of the redbirds, haha Jarhead) - then you are in poopie up to your eyeballs.  At least I ain't as delirious as THIS guy:

Quote
Seventy four? I figure Miguel Tejada will be good enough to help the Astros improve by at least 3-4 games over their 73-89 2007 record. The Astros may not necessarily be headed for a 90+ win season, but I'm quite confident they'll finish more than one game ahead of the Cardinals and more than four ahead of Pittsburgh.
"QUITE CONFIDENT"?  How about "OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MIND"!!!!!!!!!

**SIGH**   :&
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*** Update:  Dude already got sent back down - "Astros optioned RHP Jack Cassel to Triple-A Round Rock - Cassel allowed 10 runs -- seven earned -- in 13 innings this spring. He'll likely be first or second in line for an in-season callup when the Astros need help."

AND one writer said he was better than Sampson or Woody... now that is just FABULOUS... FABULOUS,  I say.

FAB.

U.

LOUS.

But hey, the drunkest I've ever been as a Major League Baseball Game was in that bar in centerfield in the Juice Box.  That damn bar will let you open up a tab, and it doesn't close down until one hour after the last out.

So you got that going for you.

Which is nice.

I look for the Braves to at least take the Wildcard slot if they can get a few starting pitchers out of the old folks home and loosened up to play.  Dayum it's scary going into t season with Glavine, Smoltz and Hampton (If he makes it all the way back) all in their early 60's.  The current roster shows 5 outfielders.  Assuming the starters are Francouer, Kotsay and Diaz..I've never even heard of the other two schleps, Gregor Blanco and uummm..uuuhhh..I can't even remember his name.

Sterters look good all the way around but if they get any kind of injury bug at all, they're toast.

The bright spot for the Braves fans is Hudson pitched ligts out. He almost got out of that first inning but a few softly hit balls allowed a couple of runs. He pitched great though after that.

However, all in all a great game! I love seeing the Braves lose!!!

One game series to open the new Nationals Park. Don't know why they decided to do that...unless it was added at a later date. We do have a 2 game series with the Nats later this year with a day off before the 1st game and a day off after the series. Maybe it was taken from that series?

Ummmm....and the bravos are at 0-2.

Dammit, to be at a game where we're getting our ass kicked, then come back in the bottom of the 9th to send it to extra innings, then lose in the 12th (and I mean just barely lose...almost had another comeback) is very disappointing.  I'm drinking coffee this morning like it's going out of style.  Glavine looked OK, but our middle relievers still need work.

The bright spot I pulled out of last night is our new shortstop, Yunel Escobar.  He went 3-3 last night and I think he's the real deal and will produce all season.  There were some drunk folks behind me last night that had signs that read "Yunel's Cartel".  I'm thinking of joining that club to see what the benefits are like.

They showed those guys on TV during the game. The PTV "sideline" commentator went out there and interviewed them.

2 one-run losses is not how i envisioned starting the season.

I was referring to the phenom Kerry Wood.  Also, Eric Gagne came in and gave up 3 of his won in the bottom of the 9th.  Make that 2 clubs that would have rather had Soriano yesterday afternoon at least.

The LONE bright spot yesterday for the Cubbies was Fukudome.  3-3 with a double and a 3-run homer...great way to start with a new team in a new country.

Yeah, well Houston's bright spot was that stellar performance our ace Ozwalt put out there last night.  Damn, he was really smoking.  I have such high hopes for this season!!!  What prowress!!  What speed!  And the run support!!  Holy guacamole, those bats were just cracking all night.

And then I woke up.

At least you bastards got to play.

Rain out in the 3rd, and none of the stats count.  Pujols was 1 for 2 with a HR, on pace for 162, at least.  Wainwright was cruising, after getting in trouble early, and the Cards were on top 5-1.  Now?  Nada.  Game on tonight at 7.

And I know the Cards are going to get smoked.

Kip Wells is pitching for the Rockies.  He sucked for the Cards last year, he's going to pitch like a non-juiced Rocket tonight...

The Bravos ex-freakin-splodid in the 9th for 7 runs to pick up their 1st W of the season.  I'm actually pretty pumped about this team.  As with most clubs, staying healthy will be the key and the Braves are one of those teams that can ill afford to lose a starter or two and not face a serious drop off.

Now having said that, their line up is pretty damn stout when you consider facing Kotsay, Johnson, Escobar, Chipper, Teixeira, Francouer, McCann, Diaz..all in a row.  Not a ton of speed but every single one of them have proven to be tough at the plate with a lot of power mixed in.  Lose a couple to injury and they're toast.  Stay healthy and the wildcard is not out of the question.

The Astros aren't playing bad baseball right now. Their bats have been holding their own, especially without Berkman. THe only reason the Cubs took 2 from them was the middlw relievers. That and Oswalt gave up 10 hits. If he doesn't get it going, it may be a really long season for the Stros.

It's Valverde, punk.  I think it sucks ass that he got the win last night after he fucked up Wandy's hard work.  The Boo Birds were already in fine form last night after he gave up that 2 out, 2 strike hit to whoever the hell it was that tied the game.  I had Brad FREAKING Lidge flashbacks...

But hey, he got Pujols out...  something Lidge never managed to do.

Karma's a bitch, eh, Jarhead?   :box:  Good luck to the birdies tonight too... not!

I still say we suck.  Lance Berkman pulls a neck muscle on Sunday night WHILE RUNNING THE BASES???  WTF??? His local nickname from the sports radio guys is "Big Puma" because of his "catlike speed and grace" , which he demonstrated so ably last night as his fat ass got PICKED THE FUCK OFF at first base...  Molina has the best arm in the business, and Big Puma Fat Ass thought he could get a lead on him?  Dumb shit.

And don't EVEN get me started on Roy O - more like Roy "O-h my Lord, there's another hit"...

Damn.

Guess Roid Boy made a good first impression on the home fans - nice save to get the out at second in the 8th - then the homer sealed the deal.  Whatever.  I just hate having a controversial player on our team.  That's just not our style.  Uncle Drayton usually doesn't tolerate any negative PR - Jose Lima gets arrested at the ballpark on a domestive violence warrant - he is off the team the next day.  Period.  I prefer not hearing anything but positives about the Good Guys.  I know, innocent until proven blah blah blah but even the smell...

Pujols with no homers on the season.  That just doesn't seem right.

Was it just my bad eyesight, or does Pujols look skinny - I didn't get to see too much of either game, but last night I caught a glimpse of him running in from first base at the end of an inning, and he looked positively svelte.

Guess he's dropped all that roid muscle... ;)   :poke:

And...the Braves lose by one run last night.  This is their 5th loss of the season, and all losses this year have been by only one run.  They got 25 losses last year that were one-run losses, and last night was their 100th total one loss game of the last 5 years.  What a shitty stat.

This means:  they still can't capitalize on the bats in their lineup.  I would give a left nut if we could get some middle relievers worth a damn.  Our starters seem fine...it's back to the bullpen woes!

Dude...it's so early to be looking at picking up games! You will make yourself go freaking nuts looking at the standings right now. The only team that potentially has anything to worry about at this point is Detriot...

I was at the game yesterday btw the Disastros and Rockies.  It was a major nap of a game interrupted on a few occasions wtih an actual hit or two.  The Stros managed to regain and then lose the lead a few times, and then Kaz "Anal Fissure" Matsui made his statement in the 8th, along with Roid Boy.  But when everyone saw Valverde warming up in the pen, we all said "So much for that..."  It took him five batters from the middle to the bottom of the order to actually secure the win.  Yee.  Ha.

WHY CAN'T WE JUST FIND A FREAKING CLOSER THAT CAN, OH, I DON'T KNOW...... CLOSE????????????

On a brighter note, Chacon gave another quality start without getting the win, and that Wesley Wright kid (who got the win) looked VERY solid in relief.

And in ANOTHER ironic "bright" note, Magic Wandy goes on the DL for a strained groin, thereby missing his opportunity to take his usual ass kicking on the road.  The local radio guys were saying that should be Coop's plan all year - let Wandy go on the 15 day DL during road trips...

Hey Hugh...I am hearing that Jim Edmonds is coming to the Cubs after he clears waivers to take up the left handed spot in CF from Pie! I am pumped! I know that Edmonds hasn't been great the past couple of years but I think he may do well in a platoon type roll. Reed Johnson has been a really nice suprise this year and this will bring another hard nose tough left handed veteran player to the bench! I hope it works out!

I am pretty sure that he is not being traded. I just heard this from Jason Stark talking about it on Mike and Mike this morning. He said that Edmonds was let go by the Padres and it was pretty much going to be a done deal once Edmonds cleared waivers.

Batting slump???? Don't you actually have to have a decent batting average before your shitty one cann be a slump??? I like Pie, and he is still very young, but he has had a lot of chances in the bigs and just hasn't been able to produce. Get him down to AAA and let him be an every day player and work on his hitting s probably what Hendry and Pinella are thinking. I know that Lou really likes him, but he is just not producing and we need another left handed bat to take Pie's spot. I think it is a good situation for everyone if this comes true!

What the FUCK is wrong with the Disastros?  Other than the inevitable June slump, the same one that happens every freaking year.  yeah, i know Roy O managed to pull one out of his ass last night, but considering his ERA and W-L records, BIG FUCKING DEAL.  He's supposed to be the Wizard, dammit.  Now he's just all "Hey, y'all, don't mind that silly man behind the curtain..."

Hunter Pence batting leadoff - *sigh*.

Random bench warmers randomly contributing more than everyday starters.  *sigh*

And if Humberto Quintero is the best we can do for a catcher, we are fucked. *sigh*

Two years ago, all pitching, no bats, no fucking runs.  Last year, no pitching, no bats, no fucking runs.  This year, no pitching, all bats, STILL no fucking runs.

At least we are consistent on one thing.

Sometimes I hate this damn game.

Astros suspend Chacon after altercation with GM Wade
Disgruntled pitcher asked to be traded

By JOSE DE JESUS ORTIZ
Copyright 2008 Houston Chronicle

Already upset that he was demoted from the Astros' starting rotation to the bullpen, Shawn Chacon was suspended indefinitely Wednesday night after a heated exchange turned violent with general manager Ed Wade an hour before the Astros played the Texas Rangers.

Chacon, who understands that he may not play again this season, admitted that he lost his cool after Wade insisted he go in the manager’s office to meet with him and manager Cecil Cooper. The argument took place in the team’s dining room, which Chacon admittedly refused to leave even though Cooper and Wade asked him to join them in the manager’s office.

Chacon said he lost his temper after Wade cursed at him and told him to “(expletive) look in the mirror,” he said. When made aware of Chacon’s comment, Wade politely declined comment on the specifics.

“Insubordination to the club,” Wade said. “I'm not getting into the details. It's an internal matter.”

Chacon made his displeasure clear on Sunday after he was demoted to the bullpen, and had asked for a trade though his agent Dan Horwits soon after he was taken out of the rotation. It hadn’t turned ugly, however, until Wednesday.

According Chacon, he was in the lunch room after batting practice when Cooper asked him to join him in his office.

“And I said, 'what do you want to speak to me about?'” Chacon said. “He said, ‘we just want to talk to you.’ I said, ‘anything you can say you can say to me right here. I don’t want to go to the office. He looked at me and I said there’s nothing for me to say to you guys.’ And I don’t think whatever they had to say to me they were going to make me happy. I didn’t want to get in a closed-room conversation. I just wanted to be left alone.

“I sat down to eat and Ed Wade came to me and very sternly said, ‘you need to come with me to the office.’ I said ‘for what?’ I said 'I don’t want to go to the office with you and Cooper.’ And I said ‘You can tell me whatever you got to tell me right here.’ He’s like, ‘oh, you want me to tell you right here?' And I said, ‘yeah.’ I’m not yelling. I’m calm.”

It deteriorated quickly afterward, according to Chacon.

“He started yelling and cussing," Chacon said of Wade. "I’m sitting there and I said to him very calmly, ‘Ed, you need to stop yelling at me. Then I stood up and said 'you better stop yelling at me.' I stood up. He continued and was basically yelling and stuff and was like, ‘You need to (expletive) look in the mirror.’ So at that point I lost my cool and I grabbed him by the neck and threw him to the ground. I jumped on top of him because at that point I wanted to beat his (butt). Words were exchanged.”

Players quickly intervened to separate Wade and Chacon, who remembers being pulled away by backup outfielder Reggie Abercrombie.

Chacon (2-3, 5.04 ERA) signed a one-year, $2 million deal to come to the Astros during spring training and was given a spot in the starting rotation. Despite a record-setting nine straight no-decisions to begin the season, he pitched well early on and had a 2-0 record and a 3.95 ERA as May turned to June.

But he struggled in June, going 0-3 in four starts with a 9.35 ERA. He pitched just one inning on June 1 in Milwaukee, an outing that saw him turn his back on Dewey Robinson in the pitching coach's visit to the mound.

Following a six-run outing in Baltimore June 19, he was told three days later that he'd be demoted to the bullpen. Chacon called the decision "horse (expletive)" prior to Sunday's game against Tampa Bay and was not used out of the bullpen before he was suspended.

“I'd hoped he pitched better for us,” Wade said. “That's the bottom line. ... We took him out of the rotation on Sunday basically on merit. He'd had 10 starts since late April, and the last three starts, four starts weren't very good. So we hoped that he would help us in the bullpen, and unfortunately we're at a point right now when we think it's in our best interest to move forward.”

Chacon admits he asked for a trade.

“Obviously I’ve not been pleased with the decision to move to the pen and made that clear the day they told me,” he said. “After that I decided I wasn’t going to say anything more and go about my business. After that my agent and I decided we were going to let them know I wanted to be traded.

“Through my agent I also told them the only reason I signed with Houston was because they were going to let me start the season all year.”

After the altercation, though, Chacon wonders if he’ll pitch again in the majors.

“Maybe it shouldn’t have happened,” Chacon said. “But when you do those things and you’re yelling at somebody and you’re cussing you better know what type of person you’re dealing with. If there’s any regret, I just wish they had just let me alone. I wish they had left me alone.

“I’m there for my teammates. I’m not there for them. I’m out there for my teammates. It just sucks that it had to end like that. … Obviously I won’t be able to play the rest of the year or whatever, but it’s fine. I don’t expect to. I don’t expect anything to be different. It’s really just a matter of if I want to play anymore.”

Astros owner Drayton McLane strongly supports Wade, and he told his players as much in a meeting shortly before they began their 3-2 loss to the Rangers.

"We can’t have anarchy," McLane said. "You can’t have rebellion. If he disagreed with what Cecil wanted him to do, he should have had the courage to sit down and talk to him. He wouldn’t come in Cecil’s office."

McLane was adamant that Chacon will never return to the Astros.

"Absolutely not," McLane said. "If you shoved a policeman down or any other public servant, can you imagine shoving a principal in a school? It was in full view of several players. Players pulled Chacon and restrained him. There’s absolutely no way. You can’t defy authority. Even if he disagreed with what they wanted him to do, he should have had the courage to sit down and talk to him."

But how about Gonzalez, the "new" closer?  He's two for two in saves, and his stance on the mound is one of the funniest pre-pitch deliveries I've ever seen.  Looks like one of Leo Mazzone's children, with all the rocking and what not.

Speaking of bizarre and injuries...here's a combination of the two:

Quote
PHOENIX (AP)—On a painful day in the desert, the Arizona Diamondbacks put left fielder Eric Byrnes and catcher Chris Snyder on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday.

Byrnes is out with a strained left hamstring, Snyder with a left testicular fracture.

OUCH.

Oh, and just a random MLB comment...as a fan of good stories and no team in particular, I'd like to see the Rays hold on to their slim lead, if for no other reason than to see either of Boston or New York sit at home during the postseason.

Tiger Wench...I'm disappointed.  No disparaging remarks about your beloved Astros' 17 inning loss against the Braves Sunday night?

I was there for the entire game.  It even started with a rain delay.  Put in a total of 9 hours at the Ballpark.  Just so happened that we sat in the 755 club, which doesn't cut off alcohol in the 7th inning, and thank god for that.  We drank the entire time.

So...I've been a part of Braves' history, as it was the longest game evar played at Turner Field.  And I got out of yardwork, which I was supposed to do after the game.  Beautiful.

They aren't MY beloved Astros.  Bastards.  They are just like some good time Charlie that rolls through town, sweeping you off your feet, tumbling you into bed much sooner than you ever normally would, rocking your world, and then just when you get used to the wonderfulness of it all - BAM!  Fucker leaves town without so much as a smack on the ass goodbye.

Carlos Lee is a fucking fatass.  He couldn't hustle after a fly ball if his fat ass depended on it.  His batting average SUCKS ASS and he doesn't seem to give a shit.

Kaz Matsui was a huge injury plagued (anal fissures??? WTF???) waste of money.

The Puma can't carry this team all by his lonesome.  And he does not have the personality to be enough of a leader in the clubhouse.  Biggio and Baggy would have put up with Lee's halfassed behavior for about >--< this long.  We need someone to throw a chair in a locker and wake the rest of the team the fuck up.

And don't EVEN get me started about our alleged "starting rotation".  Please.  My vibrator has more power.

Bastards.

Bastards.

Now that's more like it.

I have been too fucking depressed to even have the energy to rant.  I lost like an entire week when I had my surgery - 6 hours of anesthesia, major pain meds, morphine, etc.  And when I got my head somewhat cleared, I sure as hell couldn't use the freaking Disastros to help me figure out who I was, and where I was, since NOTHING HAD FUCKING CHANGED!!!  IT WAS FREAKING GROUNDHOG DAY!!  They sucked when I went under, and they sucked when I woke up.  Carlos Lee was still an unmotivated $100M fat ass, Kaz Anal Fissures was still on the DL, we still had no starting pitching AT ALL, the fucking Phillies are still laughing at us for hiring Ed Wade as a GM and giving them Brad Lidge (who just got a freaking $37.5M, 3 year extension as a reward for a fucking 0.77 ERA - THAT'S ZERO POINT SEVEN SEVEN, PEOPLE.  BRAD.  FUCKING. LIDGE.), Cecil Cooper is a nice guy who is in WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY over his head, and Drayton McClain is a fucking cheap ass owner.

Absolutely.  I like their chances sooooooooo much better with Lilly as a possible 4th starter in the playoffs rather than with Candyass Marquis.

Woody is the shits at closer sans a few blown saves.
Prior still has a vagina infection that is keeping him from pitching in San Diego now.

Well, at the halfway point, I'm not shocked the Cubs are in first place.  I think there is no question they are the best team in the NL.  I don't know if the Cards can hold on to the WC spot.  The Brewers really improved them selves with CC.  Best of luck to all in the second half...

4.5 games is not a mountain.  I can only hope the Cubbies can keep it up in the second half, once they get Soriano back into playing shape and get the rotation settled.

Didn't I hear that Carp might be back relatively soon along with Zito, or was I dreaming that?

Bite my ass.  Freaking goodie goodie.  Show up around here to spread your sunshine and bullshit like tea and crumpets.  Blah blah blah... good luck everybody... a regular Mary Freaking Poppins, aren't you?

See, you have to actually have a team in the hunt to have good luck, and I don't.  The only good thing about the All Star break is that the Disassholestros can't fall any further back than they already are.

So take your Redbirds and your Cubbies and shove them where the sun don't shine.

We lost a true legend yesterday.  He's the only voice I associate with Braves broadcasting.  I am mourning.  Here are some reactions from Bobby Cox and other long time Braves players:

I asked the same question...

The BKG's  may be understanding the depth of my scorn - why else would Carlos "Fat Ass" Lee become the hottest hitter on the team only to break his pinkie finger and be OUT FOR THE WHOLE REMAINDER OF THE SEASON?????????

I think the 31st was the Non-waiver deadline.

The bright spot for the Braves fans is Hudson pitched ligts out. He almost got out of that first inning but a few softly hit balls allowed a couple of runs. He pitched great though after that.

However, all in all a great game! I love seeing the Braves lose!!!

Hope your ready to see them lose 3 in a row, that way you can clap some more.  I'll be there for Wednesday's game.  I will be cheering for Soriano, as he's on my fantasy team.  The Braves are done for the year, so the only thing I'm rooting for there is Chipper's quest for the batting title.

I think the 31st was the Non-waiver deadline.

Correct. I read this a little earlier in response to a similar question on the Cubs site:

Teams can still trade for players after the July 31 Deadline, but the player has to clear waivers. A player is placed on the waiver wire, and all the other Major League clubs have the opportunity to claim him. If more than one team claims him, the team with the worst record gets first dibs. For example, if the Washington Nationals and Milwaukee Brewers both claimed a player, the Nationals would get him. And, I don't think Fuentes is on their radar.

OK...so it appears that my prediction of the Cubs sweeping the Braves is going to come true.  Whoopee.

On a side note, I caught a foul ball at the Braves game last night.  It was the top of the 8th inning and it was hit by Jim Edmonds.  Does anybody know how to look up footage from a baseball game?  I tried YouTube but nothing from the game posted yet.  I want to see how great I looked on TV when I caught the ball.  Your help is appreciated.

Wench's rants are world famous.  Think Clark Griswold in Christmas Vacation, but throw in more "fuck yous."

Glad to see Waino back tonight.  6ip, 1er.  72 pitches.  Hopefully no pain.  And the offense.  15 runs, 21 hits through 6.

Sorry I've been gone, guys.  New client has been busting my ass, so I can't get on during the day and post.

I went to two games out of the four in Atlanta!  It was good to see Carp come back that night.  Hopefully he'll get back in good time.

Having a good time checking in on this, and like you said, good to see Wainwright back at it!

Fuck you Soriano, you fucking fuck.  Somebody teach that fuck some fucking hustle.
Damn...just damn.
How the fuck does a major league baseball player drop a fucking routine fly ball?  How?  Because you are a fucking hot dog who has no clue what the word hustle is.

Fuck.

Well, with 6 of 8 playoff spots set, I figure I'll breathe a little life into this thread.

Tampa Bay wins the East...and the Yankees don't make the playoffs.  Big thumbs-up there.

The Astros managed to stay alive in the wild card chase until last night, which was amazing considering their pitching staff and being down Carlos Lee for the last 6 weeks or so.

Since I'm pretty much anti-NY anything, hopefully the Brewers will win the WC.

Brewers win the Wild Card.  Looks like the NLDS will be Dodgers vs. Cubs and Brewers vs. Phillies.
In the American League, the Red Sox vs. Angels should be entertaining...at least moreso than the Twins vs. Rays.

The stats don't lie this year, chop.  Larry was a bigger man during those last three weeks of the season when he left fat albert in the dust in the average wars.

Yeah, you're right, Albert just did it ALL YEAR LONG, without multiple trips to the DL.   Good for Larry and the 1 third season he played this year.

Larry rules.  :tits:

He had one, MAYBE two trips to the DL, and is old enough to be fat alberts father.

Besides, people get injured when managing relations with hooters waitresses. That's just life.

Hey, Wench, I didn't know that Pujols was at a wedding in Galveston.

Astros pitcher arrested in wedding reception melee

HOUSTON (AP)—Astros pitcher Brandon Backe was among 10 people arrested during a brawl with police at a weekend wedding reception in a Galveston hotel bar.

The bride’s father, 19-year-old brother and a FEMA coordinator were also arrested Sunday at the hotel, a command center for emergency workers after Hurricane Ike went through Galveston Island on Sept. 13.

Police spokesman Capt. Walter Braun said an internal affairs investigation has been launched.

The 30-year-old Backe, a member of the wedding party, ignored police orders to back away from the fight, and struggled with officers who attempted to handcuff him, according to police reports.

One officer said he hit Backe twice in the face before handcuffing him. Both the officer and Backe sustained minor injuries during the fight, according to the police report.

“We are aware of an incident involving Brandon. We have spoken with him regarding his version of the event. Since this is a legal matter, any further comment on our part would be inappropriate,” Astros spokesman Jimmy Stanton said in a statement.

Backe was charged with interfering with a police officer and resisting arrest, said Joel H. Bennett, Galveston County assistant criminal district attorney. Both charges are misdemeanors. He was released on $1,500 bond.

Backe, a Galveston native, joined the Astros in 2004 after two seasons with Tampa Bay.

We agree on Cletus T. Judd.

Maybe, but I met Larry only once, being that he and I don't hang out, and his first, one and only impression left with me was one of arrogance and asshattery.   All he talked about was himself.  It was embarrassing to listen too.   HAHA....Cletus was just being a dicksmack and was dressed like a fat wannabe NBA player.   He looked like a fucking clown.

i'll give myself some kudos for this call.

i didn't think the rays would be this comfortable through the 1st 4 games of the alcs.

does anyone think the red sox can overcome and take it?

i think they win tonight with dice k on the mound.

Yet another great call and prediction, oh swami of real and fantasy baseball.  But it wasn't because of Dice K.  It's because the BoSox and Terry Francona are the best team/manager in MLB history with the comeback.  The Rays will seal the deal tomorrow though at home.

Well, it took them an extra game, but the Rays got it done...good for them.

I'm sure Cubs fans have got to be beside themselves...with the Rays making the World Series, that makes all four of the '90s expansion teams (Marlins, Rockies, Diamondbacks and (Devil) Rays) that have gotten there and the loyal Cubbie faithful haven't been to one since 1945.

I'll flag myself 15 yards for unnecessary roughness...
