Title: Cake
Post by: wesfau2 on January 23, 2011, 01:40:58 PM
Caught these guys at Workplay in Bham last night.  Chad and his lady were also in attendance.  Always a great show and McRea is good at getting the crowd involved.

Heavy on old stuff, with only a few new songs thrown in (new stuff was pretty solid).  The songs I remember:

Comfort Eagle (opener)
Stick Shifts and Safety Belts
Mexico
If I Threw My Guitar
Italian Leather Sofa
Sad Songs and Waltzes
Rock and Roll Lifestyle
The Distance
Short Skirt and a Long Jacket
Shadow Stabbing
ARCO Arena
Comanchee
Frank Sinatra

Chad, help me with the setlist if you can think of others...

Off the top of my head, I also recall
Ruby Sees All
Love You Madly
Daria
Wheels
Federal Funding
Sick of You
Long Time

The last three being from that newest album.

It was a damn good show, indeed.

Love the way Cake can pretty seamlessly integrate some Country twang into their music.  My favorite was the pedal steel on She'll Come Back to Me.

Fuck, how did I miss "Ruby Sees All"?  Must have been a piss run in the 2nd set.

Sounds like a solid listing by them.  I have to admit one of favorites by them is their remake of Ruby.   Two bands I have always wanted to see live and never have are Cake and Southern Culture On The Skids.  Hope to change that before too long.

I saw SCOTS a few years back.  They opened up for Cowboy Mouth in Minneapolis.  They put on a good show.

Ruby Sees All ≠ Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town, which is a cover of Kenny Rogers they do. The song they played is an original.

I've seen SCOTS twice. Once at Crawfish Boil and once at Bottletree.

Realize that, just stating that the remake of Ruby, Don't take your love to town is one of my favorites by them.

Someone said SCOTS would throw out fried chicken at the crowd when they play "Fried Chicken and Gasoline".  I think that would be hilarious.
